The BG were considered as wasted by Provincial (as it was then) and had been searching for BSO to replace them They had been offered BFK but declined these as this would have lead to either too little (BFK only) or too much (BFK and FK) First Class The BG were suitable when there was BRUTE traffic and continued to be used simply as the guard and brake were still required There were plans for two services to remain loco hauled when Class 158 units were introduced, operating between York and Liverpool, but that never happened as the Class 158 units were late in introduction

I had noted that, but it must have been for a very short period, between ScotRail disposing of the last of its coaches and the introduction of Class 158 units on TransPennine as by 1993 these coaches were withdrawn Sadly the official records don't make any variation between TransPennine and Regional Railways from 1992 onwards so I had to go back to the records from 1991 (at that point these BSO were still with ScotRail) Equally, from what I can work out none of the TransPennine allocated coaches seemed to have survived after 1993, except 92248 Presumably they were not maintained after 1992 in anticipation of the Class 158 unit replacements, hence why so many ScotRail coaches ended up being used What comes around goes around, the period between 1991 and 1993 was a bit of a mess ScotRail were supposed to send their Mark 3A coaches to InterCity, but some had to be borrowed (resulting in INTERCITY livery with blue stripes) The Mark 2D coaches were sent away, but again some had to be borrowed and these were replaced by Mark 2E coaches (again resulting in INTERCITY livery with blue stripes) The Mark 2 non-air coaches were transferred away and split between TransPennine (air braked) and NSE (vacuum brakes) The older vacuum braked Mark 2 coaches were withdrawn and replaced with coaches from NSE

I have now checked my lists and that is correct Prior to this livery becoming standard HT had a mixed fleet of vacuum Mark 2 and air-braked Mark 2a/b/c coaches It was centralised upon an air-braked fleet and as a result the five BSO and four BFK had to be taken out of service, which increased the requirement of BG (which is why the two ScotRail livery ones were transferred) Due to the shortage of FK coaches (still with NSE) two Mark 2D FK coaches were temporarily used, hence why some air conditioned coaches appeared and again these had become spare from ScotRail (but by then had had the blue stripe painted over) If you look at the first photo you can just make out the handrail in the window of the FK These were 13569 and 13588

As above, that is ScotRail livery (upper dark grey and blue stripe inline with InterCity red stripe) I have now found a more comprehensive list of BG coaches based at HT (Heaton) in TransPennine livery 92044, 92058, 92089, 92137, 92204, 92248, 92317 I note that Farish produced a BG in Regional Railways livery (no logos) numbered 92058 I had one, but no longer have it (as it didn't suit) Again, I suspect this is what causes the confusion as this is one of the BG coaches which carried TransPennine livery and the majority did not carry logos As there was no logo carried it would have been easy enough to clean 92248 (the final BG to carry this livery) and then apply Regional Railways logos for publicity purposes

The lower grey was changed to silver white when the Class 91 locos entered service, the Class 90 locos were the first, then the HSTs were matched to the Class 91 along with the Mark 3B DVT However, I was referring to the coaches, the lower grey was changed but I cannot find the later diagram From memory this was changed when the Mark 2F RFO and RLB coaches were being converted Only a few coaches carried this revised colour, this was due to the change to Falcon Grey on locos

I have to agree that the grey is more like Silver Grey on the TransPennine livery Personally I think this is simply how human eyes see this and there is a similar issue when ScotRail livery is placed next to InterCity livery, along with the cleanliness (or lack of) of InterCity coaches next to liveries with the blue stripe The TransPennine white and blue stripe were lower on the bodyside, very much more obvious on 47475, so that the white stripe was not affected by the windows on Mark 2 coaches (without fotopic can't find any suitable photos of the scottish Mark 2A air braked coaches) I have also looked at the diagrams for sprinters On the Class 150, 155, and 156 it is specified as Regional Light Grey (same code as Intercity coaches) However the Class 158 (Express Regional) is specified as Silver Grey From memory the lower grey on InterCity livery was changed

You might want to look up 92248, as this was the only NEA to carry this livery It carried this livery initially for a publicity photograph (due to reintroduction of loco hauled services) and was then placed as spare and this is probably how Bachmann managed to obtain a photo As more BSK and BSO became spare it was transferred back to Parcel duties

Had to get my RTC charts out InterCity and ScotRail used the same colour (InterCity Executive Light Grey) It looks like TransPennine used the same colour, as that is what is specified on 47475 Presumably this was due to ScotRail and TransPennine still being classed as Provincial (as applied to the Class 150/1 units) Sprinters used Silver Grey, presumably as NSE was also being applied at the same time and was also specified on the later Regional Railways livery (as applied to both units, coaches, and locos) There is no mention of Rail Grey

I had to read the Press Release before posting on another forum It has been confirmed that there will be no advertising during live transmissions on Sky, but adverts will operate as normal during repeats (including highlights) I then wanted to see what the minimum I could pay each year was, as a customer of Virgin Media I recently cancelled my M+ TV package, as the only benefit appeared to be Discovery channel and TV On Demand over standard Freeview From the Formula 1 calendar 2012, this would be £150.50, which includes cancelling the service for two periods in June and August Is it worth paying £150 for? If the BBC have the FULL unedited race, then no, however the highlights they currently show are edited Many years ago the BBC (before ITV was awarded the contract) used to show the complete race the following day on BBC Two

I saw this almost every day in Glasgow Central whilst it operated It was unusual in being the only Euston service with no Mk3 FO (either 3a or 3b) The only time it did use one Mk3 FO was when the BFO was not available, and this did occur a few times, in which case there was an additional NHA I also made the trip several times to Motherwell in order to see the Inverness portion, and that appears to be correct, also with just one Mk3 FO (either 3a or 3b)
  15. This is slightly incorrect, and also appears in your article, and have never found any method to advise you of this There never was any additional Mk3a FO in this formation : 3 Mk3a TSO - M3a RFM - Mk3b BFO

I have converted an N gauge Mark 3 (INTERCITY livery TGS) into a Mark 3B BFO http://www.woodhurst.webspace.virginmedia.com/vinyls_17173_mark_3b_bfo_intercity_livery.html Scroll to the bottom and you will see the difference at the guards end Also the vinyls are not correct, but very close (there is a First Class 1 missing) I plan to replace the final photo eventually, the article was put together very quickly
  17. The photos I will supply will show the measurements, as per the rules, and only those dimensions As you can see by the original photo, some of the area beyond the baseboards has been removed The same method, although more extreme, would be used

Good find I spent ages looking at all the Class 37 single headcode Inverness based locos in BR blue, to try and find one with an Inverness stag I came to the conclusion it was either 37260, 37261, 37262, or 37263, prior to Large Logo I then tried to match up the headlamp, as 37263 has it in a slightly higher position from normal This then deducted 37260 and 37261, leaving 37262 and 37263 I also looked for the unique weathering on 37263, but the photos I found were the other end and no Inverness stag on the other side
  21. Yes, this looks very much like the one I saw operate around the Strathclyde area in 1989 and was then invited on board in 1990 whilst it sat in Aberdeen Although it was not as clean as that, due to several weeks of use

Now, this brings back memory, almost forgotten about this The only time I ever saw it, it was a pair of Class 20 in Hunslet-Barclay livery, top and tailing the coaches I was invited onboard the set whilst it was idle for a few hours in Aberdeen I've had a basic search (so far), but could search later on today http://www.flickr.com/photos/justindperkins/4432949525/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/chrisboon/4238596386/ This looks like the Eastern region one, operated by Chipman, possibly converted from an EMU However the one used in Scotland appeared to be green in colour, so may have been the Fisons, but also had several TTA tanks (which carried water) From memory, Rail Magazine did an article shortly after the Class 20 locos were released in this livery, and included all of the contractors that were to be used

I can only remember Mark 1 coaches operating between Glasgow QS and Oban / Fort William I remember a small number of Mark 2 (vacuum brake) coaches operating between Aberdeen and Inverness, but the services north of Inverness were also Mark 1 These Mark 1 coaches weren't replaced until sprinters started to arrive The Mark 2 coaches between Aberdeen and Inverness were replaced by air braked versions, which cascaded the vacuum brakes ones to replace the Mark 1 coaches

I've done the opposite and had property back quicker The UV markings were placed on the chassis, hidden by the bodywork For rolling stock it is hidden inside under the seat inserts or the underframe Also, don't apply the UV marking on easily removed parts, like detachable fuel tanks, etc A label is then placed visible underneath This is primarily for exhibitions, making it easy to identify my own rolling stock quickly The thief thought they had done enough by removing this label, but had not checked for the UV mark I had to identify the model to get it back, which was easily done as I advised exactly where the UV mark should be
  25. Yes, I too thought this would be a similar chassis, however on opening up it completely different and seems to be unique to the Class 91
