As this is a picture of my items I felt the need to add a comment. eBay shipping is a nightmare we can either make everyone pay for each item separately or make people await an invoice. I don't like to o that so we let people combine however eBay has no way of combining items and assigning correct postage appropriate to weight and size. They also take 15% fees from any postage price we add to the site. This is why we have a higher flat rate up to 2kg on ebay.
The best thing to do is DON'T buy from ebay come to our website www.petersspares.com and get the item cheaper than RRP and cheaper postage. It's that simple.
Thanks Peter

Hi Peter,
One issue unless I misunderstod it is that you do not deduct VAT for EU orders , so we will end paying additional VAT / Customs handling charges? Is this correct or are you registerd for VAT for orders to Ireland like Hatton's was? ( Not ment as a complaint, just a general query).
Regards, John

It was a big niche as far as overseas customers are concerned and I for one will miss it greatly. We don't have easy access to "the total amount of secondhand model railways traded across the country".
One of the best for on-line retail, what I liked most was that you could put items in your basket and straight away you would be able to see what the postage cost would be with a choice of shipping options. Most other model retailers you have to go through the check-out process to see what that postage will be and whether or not if VAT/customs is deducted or not.
Definalty miss looking at the daily pre-owned listings.

Don't mind ballasting myself, one of the aspects of layout building that I quite enjoy is wiring and ballasting. Its when it comes to doing the main scenic work that I tend to lose interest and want to start again! Having said that, my current layout(s) are more or less completed with scenery. 🙂

Or you could get a second hand Lima one and change out of fifty quid.
Perhaps people have got all the Brush 4s they want?
Nowt wrong with the Lima 47's. I have a few of them, slowly working through the my 'fleet' adding extra pick-ups and wiring in 8-pin decoder sockets. Adding extra pick-ups even on the traction tyred wheels makes a huge differance and mine run at a nice crwal on speed step 1 in DCC mode. Will eventually add extra details over time.

This was the last item I purchased from Hatton's in November last year. It is currently in the works and will eventually emerge as 50039 in large logo livery.
One thing I will miss is looking through the daily listings of pre-owned items, espessially for Lima bargins.
Thank you Hatton's for the exellent service over the years. Will definatley be missed.

Then why have I not been charged UK VAT and handling fees on everything I have ordered over the last 3 years under the magic £135 (usually just under by anywhere between a few quid to a few pence)? And I'm talking about probably around 100 separate orders if not more. Customs documentation states value, i.e. say €150, and separately states the postage cost, say €15. Every single time adding the postage cost to the order value would have pushed it over the £135 limit. This has almost exclusively been items delivered by Parcelforce, who have always billed me for VAT and handling fee for anything that was over the £135 value. Only once have I had something slip through that was declared at over the £135 value, by Royal Mail a week or so after the rules came in and it had been sent before the year end when the old system still applied.
I suspect that guidance is for a business that is importing goods, not an end customer buying goods from abroad. An end customer would not be calculating VAT, they would just be handed a bill for it.
Well you have just been very lucky and got away with it. 😁. Nothing gets past Anpost (Irish postal service).

Very sad news indeed. Disapointing for us modellers not living in the UK as they were very effiecent with thier service despite the hassle of 'Brexit'!!
Also would like to say that Hatton's customer service was/is first class as when I have had any issues with orders they were sorted out very quickly.
Like many of us who live 'overseas' they were indeed our 'Local' model shop.

But will it be their niche? Assuming TT120 does take off, surely the other manufacturers will follow suit. There's plenty of other prototypes to choose from besides what Hornby have already announced. It must be easier to scale down existing CAD from OO to TT120 or up from N than between the established scales.
For all we know, there may be some as yet unnannounced competition already being assembled in China.
TT:120 has taken off very well with both exsiting modellers and new entrants to the hobby. A lot of the Hornby TT:120 products have sold out already, and it is popular in Mainland Europe with Tillig, Piko and now Roco.
Yes would be nice for other manufactures to follow suit and I hope they will in due course.

The grass is always greener - it's the human condition isn't it? I wouldn't worry about it, and don't forget that anyone who posts their whole life on the interweb is probably highly conceited or indeed seeking affirmation themselves. There is a whole army of people much worse off than you and I who aren't doing it don't forget! I have nothing to do with social media, except train and classic car stuff for this very reason. I once joined a hi-fi forum as I love music and am fond of my hi-fi, which is pretty good, but once on that forum all I saw was people showing everyone how much incredibly expensive kit they had, leaving me feeling pretty deflated and even a little patronised. I stopped using it and soon felt better!
It does seem to be a problem across all social media platforms. What ever hobby or interest you have there often seems a be a minority who want to show of their latest all singing/dancing product including model railways. In relation to railway modelling there are some good youtubers who do really good genuine reviews and then you get an element who say you got to have the latest Bac/Horn/Hel/Acc or what ever and say older models are only fit for the skip/landfil.
In relation to Youtube and faceache, I only ever watch or look at railway related stuff but get feeds/suggestions for total irrelavent non railway related junk too.

This is all covered in another thread, "Hattons to charge local taxes..." full explanation there.
This is the topic for buying and selling to/ europe, thats why I originally posted here and if you note the time my post was posted before the other thread started.
Also it is in the model shop guide and this relevant thread has been going much longer for thouse of us who are affected/ interested in this subject.

I’ve had the email. I can only imagine that Hatton’s is either changing the way it handles IOSS purchases (up to €150) or - what I’m hoping - is more countries are DDP. As regards IOSS, here in Portugal our Customs will impose a charge on everything imported irrespective of value unless they get evidence that Portuguese VAT has been paid. If other EU countries are the same, changes to IOSS seems mostly likely.I do hope that is the case and we will get more information from Hatton's once its sorted. It is not 100% clear in the email if we are going to be liable for any charges/import duties in future, quote from email; "Please note that local customs duties and courier fees may still be charged, we are working on expanding this system to correctly cover landed fees in the future."
Hopefully they will keep us updated with theese changes.

Just had an email from Hattons about overseas orders. Looks like they may be changing how they will ship overseas orders in the near future. I have copied and pasted the email, expect all non uk customers will have had same.
Dear john
At Hattons, we strive to continuously enhance your shopping experience, and we have an important update to share regarding changes to our shopping cart and taxation system.
Within the next couple of weeks, we will implement adjustments to our system to ensure that you are charged the correct tax at the time of purchase. This change is part of our commitment to transparency and compliance with local tax regulations in your region.
As a valued international customer, we want to bring this to your attention to ensure a smooth transition. The good news is that if you despatch the items in your trunk within the next week, you will be exempt from any additional tax costs associated with these changes.
Please note that local customs duties and courier fees may still be charged, we are working on expanding this system to correctly cover landed fees in the future.
We understand the importance of budgeting for your hobby, and we want to make sure you have the opportunity to make the most of this window.
We appreciate your understanding and continued support as we work to improve our services. If you have any questions or concerns regarding these changes, please don't hesitate to reach out to our customer experience team.
Thank you for being a valued member of the Hattons community. We look forward to serving you and providing the best model railway products for your enjoyment.

Perhaps if a number of hopeful "winners" did that they would get their collective @rses into gear!
Well, just out of curiosity, I did email Hornby and they replied almost instanty to my email.
My email to Hornby,
The runners-up are not listed on your competition website, so I am emailing just in case I am one of the runners up for the 5,000 hobby reward points.
Just of note, the advent competitions are not as easy to find on the Hornby website as compared to previous years.
Regards
John
And their reply,
Hello John,
This should be updated on our website now. We also emailed the winners already for the reward points competition on day 3 of our advent calendar. Competition Winners :: Hornby Hobbies
Winners will be updated on here every day. 😊
Kindest regards,
Noor Osman-Britton
I did look and to be fair to Hornby the runners up are now listed, but I was not one of them lol..
