  1. Beautiful shots of my favourite loco there Eric, I have a version of her running on Wakefield West, though not sure if a Gateshead engine would've made it south of Leeds, but I still can't think of a better name for an express passenger engine though! The photos you took on Boxing Day were brilliant also. Cheers Tony
  2. I wish you would stop with all these HST pics Rick, my son is pestering me for one even more now! Great pics as always. Cheers Tony
  3. Brilliant John, just brilliant. Granby is such an inspiration for me, nothing overstated, everything has purpose. I didn't realise that it was on RMWeb, I will keep following it on here now! Cheers Tony
  4. Great stuff as always Rick. That going away shot of the two Warships at Penhayle Bay is brilliant. Cheers Tony
  5. Thanks for the info about the Blue Pullman Robert, that is some beautiful work. I must confess a hankering for the new Bachmann offering even though it won't really suit my layout. Cheers Tony
  6. Thanks for the pics Gilbert It does look nice. My credit card is shivering and just wondering how far north the D11/1's got and if one could be justified through Wakefield in the early 50s. Being a bit of a battleship man, 62668 Jutland would be a nice addition to the fleet... Cheers Tony
  7. Great to see some new pics Robert, and a great variety of motive power too. I spy a nice looking Blue Pullman in the background there, what is its heritage? Cheers Tony
  8. Hi Gilbert I totally agree with your approach, time and again too many people try to justify some unrealistic formation/loco/situation by saying "I have a picture..." whereas what you are doing is presenting the railway as it appeared on a "typical" day in 1958. While I could in no way replicate your attention to detail in that regard, your layout continually provides me with inspiration to aim higher in the way I am representing motive power and workings through Wakefield Westgate in the early 50s. I know I won't get it perfect, far from it, but I enjoy that aspect of modelling the mundane and routine far more than having stock and formations that are all over the shop. One day I'll pluck up the courage to show my efforts, but at the moment its just watching what goes on here and working quietly on my own layout that keeps me inspired. That, and all the lovely pics of pacifics... Cheers Tony
  9. Good to see MM over here Nick, and while you know where my sentiments lie, you've done such a great job on this layout it deserves the accolades and viewing by the wider community. Cheers Tony
  10. It's a great layout you have there, and I like the triangle concept and the two sheds, especially the contrast between the grimy steam shed and the relatively clean diesel one. It sort of hints at why steam was in demise as you know which one the crews would probably like working at more. Cheers Tony
  11. Great to see some more photos of your layout Eric, I was missing them. Love the theme of the two locos in each shot, double the value! Cheers Tony
  12. Hi Gilbert Glad the op went well and hope the recovery doesn't take too long. With those electrification works, I also wonder whether this was why at Wakefield Westgate in 1961 they demolished the old station canopies to build concrete ones that were further back from the main line and raised the footbridge. I have seen one picture where they referred to the bridge being raised to clear the new canopies but that seems like a lot of trouble to go and the possibility of electrification makes far more sense. Your new buildings and covering the platforms look brilliant. That is one strange signal though! Cheers Tony
  13. Hi Gilbert Although too modern for my era my locoholism bit at an inopportune moment at Model Rail Live last year at the DPS stand and I succumbed to D9017 The Durham Light Infantry and found that with the detail bits, you could add them all even with the Kadees but you had to cut them in half to allow the coupler to move properly. It sort of filled in the front better and looked not too bad so that way I could have the details on both ends and still have functioning couplers. Just a thought! Cheers Tony
  14. Quite definitely, happens to me all the time, especially when visiting KMRC or eHattons.com As to your dilemma, I'm sorry Gilbert but there is none, there is only one logical choice here, what else should an express passenger engine be called but Velocity, my favourite BR loco. I succumbed to the addiction last October and got a cheap boxed 60532. The Fox plates and numbers were forthcoming before that, just got to break out the T-cut and give it the treatment. My dilemma was having two Peppercorn A2s and no A1s, but that one will be easy to solve... Cheers Tony
  15. Thanks Gilbert I've always been too nervous to ask any questions as you all seem so knowledgeable I feel like I'd be just distracting the conversation. Your thread is always a source of inspiration for me as well as being a great place to learn about ECML workings. Thanks also about the tip about the Bellcode books, any excuse to expand my library! Cheers Tony
  16. Hi Gilbert Excellent shots as always. I'm working on a layout at the moment based on Wakefield Westgate in the early 1950s and am intrigued by the 0800 KX-Leeds that is being hauled by 60039, was this a relief for the White Rose in the later years? I'm relatively new to modelling BR Eastern Region (only started seriously about 12 months ago) so apologies if I'm asking a dumb question. My primary reference is the June 52 Bradshaws that a friend kindly gave me and it shows an 0830 White Rose KX-Leeds non-stop through Peterborough North, but no 0800. I love the photo of the A1 on the 0733 Nottingham - KX as only yesterday I managed to get a high res copy of an Eric Treacy photo of A1 60131 Osprey at Wakey seen here http://www.ssplprints.com/image/98474/treacy-eric-british-railways-a1-clas-steam-locomotive-no-60131-osprey-1960s . It's been the only really good photo I have managed to track down of Wakefield Westgate before it was modernised so was quite happy to get it, and seeing your A1 today looking so fine means I will just have to get one so I can replicate the photo, but it will never be to Peterborough North standards. Cheers Tony
  17. Those Gresley non-gangwayed coaches are superbly weathered, I will have to attack my two sometime soon but hoping to add a few more to the roster yet. You've done such an excellent job on this layout. Cheers Tony
  18. Hi Gilbert I've been a lurker on this thread for a long time and always admire your great modelling in recreating Peterborough. Your attention to detail both in modelling and operations leave me awestruck and I just hope that when I finally get my layout underway I can start to aspire to standards you have. I particularly enjoy all the pacifics, but mostly it is the correct train formations and wonderful variety of coaching stock. Please keep the photos coming! Cheers Tony
  19. Hi Robert Excellent layout and great photos. I'm a member of your coaching stock group and hadn't realised you were a modeller also. It's great to see some of your coaching stock in model form too and since joining the Yahoo group I must admit to becoming quite fascinated by the many variations of stock on the BR North Eastern region to the extent I have purchased my first ever coach book when visiting the shop on the Bluebell in October. Thanks for the continued inspiration. Cheers Tony
