  1. none of the TOPS BR Blue ones though ... maybe they're clearing out some stock before the 85040 model comes in
  2. I guess the intention is so that the driving car numbers match up with the coach and power car numbers in the right sets. But it is a bit disappointing for something like this which is unlikely to sell in the thousands like a normal RTR catalogue release (and is a lot of money after all) if the combinations offered cant match up with what you want. it must be a nightmare trying to organise!! Would it be any easier organising as half-sets? so you buy 2 for a full train, mixing and matching the length and end colours? I found the options ok, because I thought they looked awful with the yellow end and I went for one of the simpler options!!
  3. I'm surprised the same tooling has been used for all the Scotrail 47/7s so far ... only 47461 has a flush front at either end are there any boiler variations between 47708, 47710 and 47712?
  4. amazing!!! I'd never expect that to be a model you'd make a killing on ... Heljan had already produced the same loco so there must be a lot in circulation!!
  5. wow that looks like a big improvement!! really shouldn't have to go to that effort with an off-the-shelf RTR model though. It does stick out like a sore thumb as not looking right
  6. Looks like 47712 has been announced as the North West and Scotland Rep limited edition, I got an email about it from my local model shop
  7. Hornby use 21pins on the DCC Sound fitted models dont they?
  8. I'm surprised Bachmann didn't find that when they produced the 47/7 in BR Blue in N gauge and they came up with that different 'headlight' arrangement at the front
  9. I'd be surprised if we saw a main range Scotrail 47/7 in OO again for a few years ... assuming 47712 comes out in some form then I'd think they'd want to see how things settle down again after 47708 being released here. They wont want to flood the market with different options. However a BR Blue 47/7 or one of the large logo ones 47711 or 47712 would be a good choice especially with the DBSOs and Mk2Fs in Blue and Grey. If I were placing a bet I'd think 47711 in large logo if 47712 is appearing in Scotrail livery
  10. That looks like some great work you've been doing there Andy!! yours looks far better!!
  11. yep!!!! its going to be an expensive month when those beauties appear!!!
  12. I almost wonder whether there's something odd with the finish on the dark grey paint. With plenty of light or looking straight on it, the shade doesn't look too bad, but otherwise it looks very close to black. It probably helps if most Oxford Rail Scotrail Mk3 will run with Bachmann 47/7s and DBSOs because it would give an obvious reference point of what most purchasers are looking for. I know they put out a survey a while back about whether to match other manufacturers colours or 'correct' colours, but I'm not convinced their interpretation of 'correct' colours is right ... or perhaps not right when it comes to being scaled down or paint finish. I do hope they get the silver round the window frames too
  13. I spoke to them about it and it sounds like they believe the produced models are the correct shades. They had received livery samples of the Scotrail livery but there was a couple of corrections to be made and only blue and grey liveried ones were out on display.
  14. the 81-85 AC electric locos did for a while though didn't they?
  15. Blue ones will cover the largest period of their lives from new in pre-TOPS blue to BR Blue to Large Logo livery and even subsequent one-offs in Laira Blue or D400 repaints. You can look on it both ways, they should be the most popular ones for replacements, but you'd also expect the most worthwhile for Hornby to have as spares without carrying too big a stock of random colours
  16. would that not just shift the problem to Edinburgh if the set could not be driven from the DBSO end? was there a spare set somewhere that it could be swapped easily?
  17. bingo https://www.flickr.com/photos/dwbphotos/13329869104/in/photolist-pFy9QZ-miV4Fo-83GuTq-aPhd1p-fKQRKS-pvysNd-ao9woe-iNnBXx-pg6P2m-kYPAb7-CVLxHc-j6HDLj-bUY2dj-bUADPF-kPz4e8-pg6wY8-guiBwd-aDDBTx-dxPorB-a3cgcp-hrPCmv-bv5Uh6-eaCSMT-eC83gv-6SNTzy-ZVq8zn-21bzkcG-pxjxHK-pg7up6-e1rhbC-Hk3Ysn-Z5ZXcu-CBatsB-ZUmX6t-pxjxrT-21eRAFP-pxjxwx-SzzBSm-pxyUWQ-21ZagfN-pvyswm-pvyu6U-fASCTG-pg7vqz-pvyspY-pTxfPP-frzc8P-pg6Psw-V7EYdY-bqbApp only found one picture though

  19. Were Class 37s and 50s only used in timing trials for pulling on the E-G route? did they push as well? I dont remember ever seeing a Class 37 on a push-pull rake with DBSO, but if they were would as a station pilot at Glasgow Queen street be the best bet if the set was being used as a normal hauled rake? Pretty sure I've seen photos of a Class 26 departing Queen Street presumably with an ECS of a push-pull rake
  20. It could probably only be argued by the XC Crosscountry services as duplicating their route to York since its doubtful how many folk would go Glasgow-London via the East Coast
  21. Mine arrived yesterday and they look fantastic. I think the underframe bar is a little lower than it should be and closer to the track, but they look good. Very pleased! Just from that fault though I think I'd hold off buying any more in case the Dapol one turns out to be any better!
  22. Will there not have been less variations in steam years for liveries on the same tooling compared to the explosion of liveries since sectorisation? Could it also be that steam models will be expected to sell in larger quantities so might appear more as catalogue models rather than Rep limited editions? I'm not so sure it will be an obvious steam vs diesel decision rather more matching up the numbers they expect to sell and sell out of in less common liveries making full use of the toolings they have available.
  23. being pedantic ... I doubt they'd be announced as new 2017 rep models now we're into 2018. With the jiggling around of models around Tamar being delayed I dont think its particularly clear how many we can expect or when. But I am hoping for some 37s to be announced as rep models at some point
  24. the prices of the same tooling based models doubling in a handful of years isn't going to help sales figures ... especially taking into account how little wages have increased in comparison
