  1. Went to Doncaster show yesterday and had a nice chat with Phil the Editor of Garden Rail, I know him pretty well having got to know him from the Leamington or Swindon area shows I attended with my 0 or G gauge line some years back. The show was very busy and getting in to Layout’s a bit tricky. But I did spend an interesting time watching the S and D Templecombe Shed and main line bit based in BR days. Lots of pulling and shoving of S n D trains that had to have a pilot attached departing Templecombe en route for Bournemouth x Bath. The other way a pilot would attach to the rear to drag the train into Templecombe station. All very nicely done no doubt much to the wonder of viewers that know nothing of the operations at that location. Lots of stands to tempt ones wallet. Also a guy with Cambridge Miniature Wonderland (MW) tea shirt selling all sorts of old trains and buildings from sundry piled cardboard fruit boxes. bit of a wonder really as to what may have been in the bottom of a pile of boxes 4 or 5 high. The Webb site is all a bit ‘contact us, available later’ so not that informative. I just wonder if it will be up to the standard of Hamburg, I was aware the MW were looking for a U.K. site but thought it may be in the Birmingham area. However in Cambridge there may well be a good tap of students to get beavering away on buildings and scenery much as I saw on my first visit to the Hamburg MW a decade or two ago now. Any knowledge of this venture anyone? Did search for it in here but no mention of it found. https://cambridgeminiaturewonderland.com
  2. I think that TT120 has the possibility of being a 00 killer, correct as near as possible gauge to scale compared to 00 and the former TT3. Yes wheels look a little clumpy, but much finer than N to look at but those couplings. But when coupled look ok and have decently small gaps. Time will tell if I am rights or wrong or even if Bachmann or others get in bed with TT120. Can possibly see Piko or Roco trying an Austerity or S160 to test the water.
  3. Did not find the original post you refer to, could you link it please? If not perhaps a pic of what you have done may help me. Oh yes love Ossett as well, got used to it when living back at Horbury Bridge for 3 months in 2012. Do also like Clarkes, been around a long while but their pub in Horbury a great one.
  4. Glad your reply was only 4 pages in, my order will be in today!
  5. Watching that vid carefully as the train ran into the station the push on the rear as defined by coupling closeness was roughly 2/3 of the way through the train. Exactly the formula (1/3 rd extra load) used in the 70’s for using a banker with 33’s on the Southern.
  6. My hypothetical TT is for when I win the Euro Millions, so I am not that bothered what the existing base of TT think. I was a member of the TT Gauge Society many moons ago and loved the scale but eventually the ‘face’ view got to me with its poor look of track gauge. I feel exactly the same about 00 which is why my small 00 Layout is a curved affair with Operating Location in the middle so that a front on view is nit possible.
  7. Proper TT Gauge using continental scale on 12mm Track. This would give much better scale track gauge relationship. Peco do suitable track but a smaller radius set rack be required and commissioned from Peco. Say 18” radius. Locomotives would be DCC Sound fitted with stay alive, quite possible and Kato would be my choice of manufacturer. 1st hit for a Train Set would be a Terrier with typical Hayling Island Stock. A few wagons all BR initially. Range would be expanded by perhaps a nodding donkey DMU and a 150. Next up would be a West Country, BR Standard 2-6-4 then Class 4 4-6-0. From there on in I would be asking buyers for suggestiins.

    On Cats

What a lovely thread and what a lovely selection of Moggie's. I have a dog myself but do like cats as well though I have nit had one living with me for getting on just over 50 years now. Have had friends with cats and always made friends with them in spite if having dogs around me. Barney my dog used to spend all day in the conservatory of his previous owners house with next doors cat.
  9. Andy was indeed involved in a mega project, not just the GE. His co-partner Dave Challis has sadly died as well so I am not sure what has happened with this project. I know that much of it would have been gifted to the GE Society that both were heavily involved with, but that likely would have only been the GE Collection, there was so much more that both had been beavering away on for years. The day he died there was a GW Map that he was inputting places and locations into the Database. Pic below shows one of their projects under the IA banner some years back.
  10. I only discovered The new (ish) Peco Setrack last night when a friend told me about it. He could not quote the Radius but I found from adds that it is considerably larger than I thought. Back in 1978 when 0 gauge was not so fashionable as now I was messing about with a Lima Bogie bodged into a Steam Tram kit. running on Lima Track with a radius of 2-2’6” I think. I subsequently started making my own track as I found the geometry 2 limited for the Light Railway that I was trying to fit on 18” boards. Thus like Simon says I built my own track using hand cut Copper Clad Sleepers every 5-6 sleepers with hand cut matching thickness ply ones in between. Cheep, cheerful, easy and perfect for a Col Stephens type Light Railway. I also scratch and kit built quite a few locomotives my smallest being Shannon of the Wantage Tramway and that is a small loco indeed. These days I am predominantly working in G Scale in the Garden but my 0 layout sits in the loft in its storage boxes as do the stock unused since the last trip out of the layout probably some 10 years ago now at Swindon. I did offer the layout for sale at that show with what appeared to be a serious taker that prompted me to take the sign down, never heard from him again! Complete time waster. I think if I were using the points I would be investigating making the curved bit turn into a straight as soon as possible after the frog but allowing sufficient for a suitable distance between 2 tracks. Yes this would be bodging by hey who does not bodge with Model Railways? Even the P4 guys do a bit, but would rarely admit to it! Oh does the Dapol Terrier run OK through these points? I know I do not need to worry about my other 2 kit built Terriers as they run through my 2’6” points quite happily.
  11. Just seen that Topslots are offering a new Kato Tram for pre order. Is a 4wheel but in the middle then 4wheel jobby. Will report on it when it appears. Just look at TS advert. https://www.topslotsntrains.com/topslotsntrains/final.asp?ref=Kato-Japan-14-804-01-N-Gauge-HER-HIRODEN-1000-LEV-GREN-MOVER-LEX-TRAM&id=17420&manufacturer='KATO N Gauge'
  12. A while since you posted, hope all is good with you. I model Selktalbahn in G you might like to look at my line build in another forum. https://www.gscalecentral.net/threads/a-new-railway-is-started.260103/
  13. I have been very stalled on this project for a couple of reasons. 1st I have decided that Ally Cassettes are not for me. Many I know use them with success, but I find that they get dirty with poor pickup quite fast and of course there was the anodized issue that stalled me. Not quite sure how I will replace them but most of my Wagons have been converted to have removable loads so that is one issue resolved. It may be that I just make up a Traverser for the Healey Mills end and use Peco Loco Lifts for Locomotives, the Colliery end could perhaps work fine with points and finger shunting. Also I have given up on Cobolt Motors, I just have too many with that dratted clicking issue so have decided to go forwards with Servos and to that end I have a MegaPoints Servo Board plus enough Servos to do the job. I have even tested out the board with a servo and working with my super CoBolt lever frame. So all I now need to do is get round to rewiring the Lever Frame for Servos and coupling the whole lot up again. The round to it has not kicked in just yet, but as I run out of jobs for my Garden Railway perhaps things will get moving on my Coal Mine Railway again.
  14. Hi did you get your tram working again? I bought a couple second hand just before lockdown and they were both running iffy. So using a check lead I tried power on each wheel and at least 4 or 5 were not powering to the motor. Nothing to do with the chassis, you do not really want to get in there as you sort of found out. Was the pickup circuit that had been dislodged in the centre of the car, did a little fiddling around and gentle bending to keep things in place and all is well now.
  15. Being Sheffield there would likely be some sort of Metal activity. A Steel Works would want Iron Ore or ready rolled Steel in, possibly Rails or Vans of finished Goods out plus of course the empties from the Ore and Steel going out. Coal in to power the works or perhaps oil and empties oiut. A more modest facility perhaps made Sheffield Steel Cutlery, this would be less raw material in perhaps some coal and Stainless Steel in Vans. Vans out with the finished product. Empty coal wagons out. That is as far as my thinking takes me for now. JonD
  16. I have not trawled all through this thread, but has anyone thought that the delay in % terms is pretty close to the uplift of costs in % terms? This of course depends on when you define the start of the long sad process. But one thing for sure delay = cost increase, someone needs to get the varying Ministers to understand this before they call for yet another review or pause.
  17. I have been running my Arnold Trams of varying kinds quite happily on Kato Unitram Track. Link to a vid of my line with one running.
  18. Paul, I wanted to say that as well, CM not a normal buy for me but the SHB made it a must have. Sorry that I will not be able to make NEC this year to see the SHB. Must keep an eye out for other Shows when the invites stack up!
  19. Looked through the thread and no answer (that I can find) to your question. Yes Arnold Trams run fine on the UniTram Track as does pretty well every other N Gauge item of Stock that I have tried even including the Allegra. Look at the Kato Unitram Thread where I have done a link to my Vid of sundry bits of N running on my layout.
  20. Yes thanks guys that is definitely the beast. Knew you would come up with the goods.
  21. Morning all, on another Forum a guy from Spain has made a nice scratch build of this Loco. I have searched to find out what and where it is with no luck. I thought it may be a North. Ritish Industrial butbthat May be a blind alley.
  22. Hi Bill, I just found your Pics of the Selktalbahn on Paul’s Sud Harz Thread. Very inspirational. I first visited Alexisbad in 1981 sadly on a Sunday when not much Freight was travelling around. As I model the line in G in the Garden I am always in the lookout for Train Formations with Freight and other items to add to my admittedly liberty taking scenes. One of your Pics of Alexisbad shows the Wooden Framed Building just the Gernrode side of the former Buffet that I have been wishing to build for some time now, I think that your Pic will enable me to make a stab at it. Also noting that some of your Pics show 6102. She and 6101 were at Wernigerode during the time of my visit in February 1981 so were your pics taken around 79 or so? They must have transferred her by Rollwagen as needed I guess. Interesting that would make a great pic. But NG Locs were generally used to Big Works visits at Gorditz so would make sense to move the smaller Locs between Wernigerode  and Gernrode as required.

      Hi John,

Glad to hear that you've found my Selketalbahn photos useful. The shots of 99 6102 on the Fotocommunity site were taken in September 1977 and May 1985. I know that 99 6101 was also in use on the Selketalbahn in 1977 (probably because of the derailment involving 99 5901 near the level crossing between Alexisbad and Harzgerode) although I didn't see it myself that year. Transfer of locos between Gernrode and Wernigerode would have taken place fairly regularly when they needed attention at Westerntor works between main visits to Goerlitz. Presumably the same standard-gauge flatbed wagons with fixed rails at the correct gauge as were used for transport to and from Goerlitz also saw use for Gernrode - Wernigerode moves - at least until late 1983 when the Stiege to Strassberg section was reopened.

I have plenty more photographs of the line than appear on Fotocommunity but I've hardly posted anything there for a couple of years now - too busy with other things! I expect I will eventually do so again but it won't be in the immediate future.

      All the best,

      Bill

  23. Fully agree, this year has been my poorest haul ever, only two. What will we do now for our small square bits if wood?
  24. I forgot to mention that Top Slots also has some Kato available. Would appear to be the best value for the Centram and Portram Trams just now.
