  1. Many thanks for your help and photos much appreciated. I will report back in due course. Re running I would suggest a 7 (pre pick up problems) is fair. I think the Dapol Terrier was more assured due to the compensated middle wheel set and the Hornby Terrier is not in my view as assured as the peckett due to the difference in weight between the pair
  2. Is possible for someone to photograph the under side of a Hornby Terrier showing the pick up position please? My Terrier has started stalling I suspect that the pick ups are not in the correct position. Many thanks for any help you can give.

    Hornby king

I bought King Edward V today at a very reasonable price of just under £90. I originally purchased 6016 with the aim to sell on for a modest profit (and thats what I told my wife) but already I am weakening. Help!
  4. It would be nice to see a Manor and S160, or perhaps a Saint given the replica produced at Didcot.
  5. I hadn't appreciated this thread existed when I posted in the 7mm forum. It is a fantastic layout from a great modelling stable I hope it goes to where it will be treasured and enjoyed
  6. Does anyone remember this fantastic 7mm layout from the Gordon Gravett stable. As I 9 year seeing it the modeller it made an indelible impression on me. I found at Warley that it is up for auction https://bid.astonsauctioneers.co.uk/auctions/7272/astons10163/lot-details/91fbfad3-1032-495d-b311-ab0500a5c532
  7. Thanks again for running the survey it clearly takes a lot of effort, it is appreciated. It is fascinating that S160 has made it to the top of the poll, may be a bit of a surprise (although one I have consistently voted for in previous surveys) but definitely rule 1 locomotive and perhaps shows a growth in modellers of the preservation scene with 4 now in traffic.

    David Boyle

I see some sad news from Dapol. Founder David Boyle has passed away https://www.legacy.com/obituaries/blackpoolgazette-uk/obituary.aspx?n=david-boyle&pid=193950262&fhid=41140&fbclid=IwAR0OQPVUY4ZL-2X30vRk0iVpIOB1SzURfQf9IffMVCuUExjwynTZr-VY7Xw Rest in peace., and my condolences to his family and friends. I remember him selling my father and myself a county from the factory in Winsford I was tickled pink. It was a reward for passing my entrance exam to senior school! Then some years later he repaired the locomotive at Llangollen and he let us into the tour for free. I think he charged very little for the repair just the cost price of the spares and even gave me a new box. What a great servant to the modelling fraternity.
  9. Many thanks for your help. This is very helpful and gives me food for thought you achieved a very realistic result
  10. Looking superb. May I ask what ballast did you use for the shed area please?
  11. Thank you this was very helpful in allowing me to purchase a later bearing fitted model. £65 from the Cheltenham model centre (listed as second hand) but looks hardly used complete with a sealed detailing pack. The locomotive runs beautifully
  12. https://www.chilternrailways.co.uk/tickets-and-times/changes timetables are now on the Chiltern website in a pdf format. Please note on line journey planners will take time to update pending network rail uploading the plan to industry systems
  13. A very interesting and well executed re purposing of a classic layout. Mark Beckett once a director of Chiltern Railways published a history of the GCR in the just supposing premise that the GCR didn't close. https://books.google.co.uk/books/about/Great_Central_Reborn.html?id=u2rvjgEACAAJ&source=kp_book_description&redir_esc=y
  14. And of course some of the banners had the Terrier on them which Simon at the time would have known was also being developed by Hornby... No wonder there was an accerelation in its development!
  15. https://www.aandhmodels.co.uk/mbr-trees-1939-c.asp These are really special
  16. https://www.abrail.co.uk/SBPhotographs.htm is a great resource for stationary boilers. Plenty of variety here
  17. I love the stationary boiler piece. I have the gem kit too and I have contemplated the same arrangement with the roof over the back head. It appears to be prototypical from photos on the net.
  18. Does anyone know if there is a trader attending who stocks ID Backscenes?
  19. Is there an equivalent geometry code 100 Electrofrog diamond crossing from another manufacturer? I find that there is a momentary short when a locomotives cross it under dcc. All the surrounding fishplates are insulated
  20. Good venue despite being slightly further to travel from Banbury. We enjoyed the mix of layouts, my daughter liked Brinklow, Poulton Le Fylde (who would have thought a squirrel would sit on a signal gantry), Dubmill Sidings and Stodden Hundred. We took our own food so no issues with the catering. Thanks for the organisers, exhibitors and stall holders for an enjoyable event
  21. Good show. We enjoyed chatting with the team producing the scratch buildings, playing with the cliff lifts, racing Thomas and of course Yorkshire Pennines. The dcc set up on the latter was fascinating although the fear in Richards face when a child wanted a loco to run from the top to the bottom and then through the tunnel was a picture!
  22. Roland and Mike Many thanks for your kind replies and suggestions for parking. Looking forward to visiting on Saturday.
