  1. And a couple more Airfix Mk I 'Female' The really old Revell 1/720 Tribal Class destroyer.
  2. Over the years I've built all sorts of models, dabbled in R/C aircraft (mainly gliders), scale non-sailing yachts and woodwork but usually come back to N gauge. Here are some of what I've built recently. 1/35 Tamiya Panzer II with some added etched details and extra figures 1/72 Sherman Firefly 1/72 Sherman Another 1/72 Firefly in a small diorama

The way F1 is going at the moment I would think the BBC is glad to be rid of it.

  4. That's probably the neatest N/2mm ballasting I've seen in a long while. Really looking forward to seeing this layout develop! Thanks for posting
  5. I've had success in fading colours by using a white undercoat then applying the full density top coat. Then gently rub down with very fine wet and dry used with plenty of water. Unfortunately this only works if you can, or want to repaint. Dave
  6. is hearing the call of 009. I blame JIC Boyd.

How many homes would you expect to win in any average season? I suppose you have to rent most of them out?

Ah, miscommunication......my favourite form of communication :-)

  9. Doesn't J1111 make an excellent candidate for 'a photo of a real location that looks just like a model'? Great photos Dave!
  10. Some Peco 16 tonners for your consideration
  11. Hi Jesse I hope this illustrates what I mean. I stuck the track down then laid the mounting board up to the sleepers. The track was ballasted with fine sand (bought from Pets at Home for use in terrariums) and then the whole lot was given a coat of black and grey Halford's acrylic primer, with both colours being sprayed at the same time to get a bit of variety in the tone. The track was then airbrushed with a mix of sleeper grime and rust. Hope this is of some use to you Cheers
  12. Although I haven't built a full layout in years I have built some dioramas to try out some rusty skills. What I've found is that as the sleeper depth of N gauge track is so out of proportion I tend to stick the trackwork down to the baseboard. The layout I am building at the moment has a 'topping' of foamboard. This is light, cheap and helps deaden track noise. To reduce the apparent height of the track I've laid scraps of mounting board up to the sleepers. This helps reduce the apparent height of the track. This I think is particularly useful in station and yard areas where the sleepers tops tend to be flush with the surrounding groundwork. I'll see if I've got any photos to show what I've done. Cheers
  13. Very neat woodwork to say the least.

  16. Currently constructing buildings near Slate Quay, Caernarfon in N/2mm.
  17. Just heard the American modeller Sheperd Paine has died. Probably better known for military dioramas his work has certainly influenced many scenic model makers since the 1970's

He did the crashed B17 diorama which featured in the photos inside Monogram's 1/48th kit - brilliant inspiration if you were building one.

Monogram tank kits in the 70s included a colour leaflet featuring a Shep Paine diorama. I found them a great help.

  18. What a great, well observed layout.
  19. is off to Doncaster races.........

  20. I recently came across this topic and have taken a couple of days to enjoy it from start to finish. Living in Bangor it was great to see the photos of the A55 related construction work and the plethora of 37s which once inhabited the North Wales Coast. Looking forwards to more!
  21. Potentially a niche market but worth exploring
