Do you really mean £190,000.00???

I suspect that you are not getting replies because you are asking what is considered by many to be financially sensitive information.

Thank you Ben, We are awaiting invites for Westgate Park but at this stage we are pretty much committed for the next two years operating Neely. This has two shows this year and three or four next year. As to more images, the layout is very much a work in progress so I am sure there will be more over the next months. We are a small group and we don't want to overcommit ourselves otherwise it stops being a pleasure. Now if any other N Gaugers want to join the Ely club to help, they'd be very welcome. Hope to meet you again perhaps at Peterborough or Spalding. Regards

Unfortunately, due to a point failure in the storage area about an hour before opening yesterday, we took the decision to use the manual control panel rather than PanelPro. This meant that it was not possible to demonstrate controlling the layout using various tablets and phones. Our apologies for any disappointment. We will attempt to use tablets when my layout Neely is at the Festival of Railway Modelling at Peterborough in October and at Spalding in November.

They're fine. I'm sure that you realise the second point in scenario 2 also needs insulated rail joiners on the vee. By the way, for any dc users, insulated rail joiners on the point's vee is good practice - unless you wish to make sidings self isolating, Regards

Although the scenery is incomplete, Westgate Park is fully operational, including the PanelPro computer panel, and is having its first outing on Saturday 20th May. This is at the annual Ely and District MRC's exhibition held at City of Ely Community College, Downham Road, Ely, CB6 2SH from 10:30 - 16:30. We have a posting in the exhibition section if you require further details. Please say hello if you visit the layout as it is nice to meet Forum members. Regards

I suppose that you've checked that the Pl13s are switching to give you the correct polarity at the frogs - it's easy to transpose the two feed wires. If you have a multimeter use that to check for continuity between the points' frogs and those on the diamond crossing. Also as another poster said - have you checked that the Pl13s are working (and every time) as they are not the most reliable of switches. Regards

And even Neely made it into the 800th edition on the letters page. A colleague said, rather unkindly I thought, that they must have been short of letters as they even included a photograph!!

It is always appreciated when I receive praise for my layout, Neely. It was particularly so this morning when I opened June's Railway Modeller and saw a Reader's Letter from Simon James and another photograph of the layout by Paul Bason. Even though Neely is based on the mid years of this decade, I was definitely chuffed!!

I can now control my locos on Neely from my iPad! To do this you have to run your layout using PanelPro (free from JMRI) on your laptop/desktop computer and then use WiThrottle lite (a free App) on the iPad. You also, of course, need a wi-if connection linking the two. I initially used my normal home router but then got it running on an old one which I can use at an exhibition. It does not need to be connected to the internet to do this. I understand that the same App will run in the iPod and iPhone. I shall experiment with this at the forthcoming Ely Exhibition on our club layout, Westgate Park. Why not come along and see it for yourself. Regards

This is very positive news. I wish Dapol well. Recognising that the market for n gauge is much smaller than for 00, I doubt we will see many UK manufactured n gauge models in the near future but they will get my business when they do. However, if it should be that they actually own the tooling made for them in China then some very interesting things could happen very quickly. Finally, I just hope that there are still some toolmakers left in the UK!

Neely is my first layout. It is Dcc. We had dc on our N scale club layout which was electrically a nightmare - we struggled to make it work as we wanted - it never did. Eventually I converted it to Dcc. So two votes for Dcc. However our new 00 club layout is still dc. Thus one vote for dc.

Something happened today that I never dreamed would happen when I started railway modelling about 6 years ago. Today my layout, Neely, is featured in the Railway Modeller. Fingers crossed it might also be appearing in BRM before the Peterborough show in October.

Four of us managed to get Neely up and running inside 2 hours at the March exhibition but never again! It really deserves taking that hour longer to get it running as I would like (and the public expect). I hate it when it has its teething troubles in full view of an audience. So, from now on, we stick to exhibitions where we have at least three hours to put it up and get it running properly.

Thank you for your very kind comments about the trackwork - beginners luck I think. Kind regards

Everything went fine today. Got two invites to exhibitions for 2019 so we must be doing something right. Found my April copy of the Railway Modeller when I got home this evening which features Neely. I am so very pleased bearing in mind that this is my first layout. So a big thank you to Paul Bason who took the photographs last year and to Steve Flint for accepting the article in the first place.

Amazing just how much you can get into a Honda Jazz. The photo shows that all nine Neely baseboards and the two stock boxes fit quite nicely. So just the legs, lighting rig, equipment boxes and stools to fit into the other car. March here we come!

Neely is now all broken down, with its transport covers on ready for its first outing this year on Saturday 4th at the March (Cambridgeshire) exhibition from 10:00 until 16:30. Getting it erected in the time available on Saturday morning could be touch and go but we'll do our best. If you're coming, introduce yourself to a team member and if you want to operate the trains please ask. Regards

Freight back flashing red safety light

In N scale it's diy I'm afraid. I have done it and, for anyone that is interested, I can supply the circuit diagrams and other info. -
N Gauge Class 390 Pendolino (post Kickstarter) with Rapido
terrysoham replied to Revolution Ben's topic in Rapido Trains
Mike, The reason that I posed the question is that I have two full sets on order for use on our club layout, Westgate Park and we have received our first invite to our home club's exhibition in May 2017. I was hoping that I might have them to show off which looks very unlikely on the basis of your production start date. If by chance Mr Ando is reading this - could we borrow your pre-production Pendolino please? Happy Christmas -

Has the order book been closed? When will production start? -
After a few hiccups, I now have a flashing red tail light on one of my container trains. It needed a stay alive kit from Zimo to get it functioning correctly. I will put it on YouTube when I work out how to do it. Only trouble is on the video from my iPad, the light looks to be white! The flasher circuit came from the Web and the components were soldered onto a home made pcb.

Mike, Next year, we are at March and Abingdon in March and Peterborough in October. In 2018 we are booked for DEMU and the Derby Roundhouse shows early in the year and TINGS in September. Unfortunately nothing in your area yet but we are open to offers. If you do manage to visit, please introduce yourself. If you want, you can have a go at operating it too. Kind regards

Just put together an electronic circuit which produces the flashing led for the rear of my freight trains and got the pickups fitted to one container wagon to power the circuit from the dcc track. I am very pleased that it worked first time! That's fairly rare for me as I usually build one and blow it up before I work out what I did wrong. The idea is that the pcb will fit in the container at the rear of the train. I have now ordered the surface mounted components from Rapid to build four circuits for my container trains and the two special ones which will be worked from decoders for my sand train which reverses in Neely. The decoders will be given the same address as the loco so there will be a red flashing light at the end of the train irrespective of direction of travel. Has anyone constructed N scale rear lights? What did you use? I am thinking of either a piece of 0.5 mm diameter fibre optic cable protruding through the end of the container attached to a small piece of plastic with a 0.5mm hole in it or a smd red led superglued to the wagon so it stands on its end and painted white with the wires painted the same colour as the wagon. Regards

Peco flexi track.. No holes for track pins..
terrysoham replied to 40034_Nick's topic in Modelling Questions, Help and Tips
I used Copydex too on Neely. Proved its value recently when I realigned my storage area which meant moving several points and a couple of yards of track. Just carefully eased up the track/ points using a chisel bladed knife and then cleaned off the Copydex from the baseboard by rubbing vigorously. I too use drawing pins to hold the track/points in alignment and flat while the glue is drying. Just a thought though, it might not be so easy to remove if you have laid your track on cork sheet.
