  1. Yes, we have given thought to rushing around the front of the layout and plonking a couple of coaches in the car park when we've done a boo-boo and got ourselves a SPAD.
  2. Thanks to the earlier poster, I have now found what I am looking for. One other question, I assume that the metric dimensions shown on Clive Mortimore's drawings are scaled at 4mm/1ft?
  3. Thank you for the pointer but, unfortunately, not quite the type shown in the photo.
  4. Does anyone have a dimensioned (or scaleable) drawing of the ohe shown in the photo attached. I am wanting to have a go at making several for my layout, Neely. Thanks
  5. My glasses for viewing the 3d pix arrived yesterday in the post. Thank you.
  6. Unless you intend to use Peco track pins to secure the track in position (I wouldn’t advise you to do this) then I believe that Sundeala board is the wrong material.
  7. When will the digital magazine appear please.
  8. I think that I read it in this thread when cutting brick Plastikard make sure that the smooth side is uppermost. Anyway that’s the way I did it - without any distortion.
  9. JMRI uses Yahoo. Never got mine to work. Asked questions - never answered. Answered questions - never an acknowledgement let alone a thank you. I do not use Yahoo any more. And if JMRI has any sense they’d ditch it too.
  10. I couldn’t find a disagree icon to press but I disagree. I think that BRM gets better and better.
  11. Please do try to get your facts right before you post. We get our fuel and van hire expenses refunded which is not quite as you describe. We do it because we enjoy entertaining the public. An apology would be nice.
  12. We had an excellent weekend. Neil, two Johns, Geoff and I thoroughly enjoyed showing off Neely to so many people. It was a real pleasure. Thank you to Tom and all his helpers at Spalding for a fabulous show.
  13. It’s coming along very nicely. You seem to have cracked “laying” the static grass. There should be no problem having it ready for the Ely Model Railway Exhibition in May 2018. Keep up the good work.
  14. We had a great time with Neely. Thank you to all those people who visited and especially for all those kind comments. Also a big thank you to the organisers who made the whole experience easy and to whoever did the lunchtime ham and cheese butties each day. For me an experience which made all those hours spent putting Neely together very worthwhile.
  15. Look forward to meeting you Barry. Please make yourself known when you visit Neely next week. If the layout is behaving itself we can have a chat. Regards
  16. Thank you for your kind words. Is there any chance of an invite for the Ely and District MRC members please. My co-conspirator Neil would be especially interested as he often runs the modern day Ely from the Cambridge box. Kind regards
  17. I have started experimenting with a Silhouette Cameo cutter in a bid to construct the main Ely Station building. I am still having fun with the software which comes with the machine but it seems perfectly able to cope with building design. I am cutting 10thou and 15thou Plastikard. 10thou for the onlays and 3 layers of the 15thou laminated using Limonene adhesive for the structure. The Cameo cuts through the 10thou but not the 15thou which has to be broken out of the sheet. The brickwork is the wrong colour and style but, so far as I know, is all that is available from Slaters. I have yet to try cutting the brickwork sheets on the Cameo. Here is a photo of the "proof on concept" building which is helping me learn how to dimension the openings and you will see that it has the concrete/stonework window surrounds which characterise the station building. I am sure that the Cameo is far better at cutting out the window and door openings than doing it by hand. I will let you know how things progress.
  18. We run all the passenger services that occur at Ely including the Kings Lynn (and some now from/to Ely) - Kings Cross, Norwich - Cambridge, Stansted - Birmingham, Norwich - Liverpool and Ipswich - Peterborough. I think that's them all.Regards
  19. Hi, Having used my Cameo for the first time, I now have three identical 10thou sides and one 10thou overlay for my n scale building in Plastikard. I now need to laminate them. I have some D-Limonene on order to try out. I don't think that I've laminated styrene before so I need some advice. Thank you in advance. Regards
  20. Having read all of this thread I have decided to buy a Silhouette Cameo cutter to cut 10thou Plastikard for aiding the construction of model buildings. However, I need advice as to where to buy it. What are your experiences? I would prefer to buy from a retailer who enjoys a good reputation for service as well as price. What extras do I buy? Is the longer life cutter worth getting? What other extras should I get? I have already ascertained that the Silhouette software is good enough for my purposes. Thanks in advance for your guidance
  21. Ben, Neely appears at Peterborough next month and Spalding in November. Look forward to seeing you if you can make it. Regards
  22. I have just downloaded this month's digital issue of BRM magazine and, to my delight, Neely made it onto the front cover. This is due in no little part to Andy York who encouraged me to write the accompanying article and visited me almost a year ago to take the wonderful photographs of the layout. So, Andy, "thank you". Kind regards
  23. So far as I can see, neither Microsoft's Word, Publisher nor Excel will save in these formats so how good is Silhouette's own design program. Is it capable of, for example, drawing to scale (1:148) the front elevation of a building showing the window and door positions accurately?Regards
  24. Hi, I would like to see whether this cutter can help me make an n scale (1:148) representation of the Ely station buildings for which I already have dimensioned drawings. I am quite comfortable and competent using the drawing tools available in Microsoft's Office programs to design my buildings . Could I use them with this cutter? What drawing format would I need to Save As? If these questions have already being answered could you kindly refer me to the relevant pages in this interesting and thorough but very long thread. Thank you.
