  1. That's what I think I'll put on the Typhoon but I'll put it behind the propeller so it gives the effect of a snapshot in time but still has the appearance of motion.
  2. Well my B52 arrived and the typhoon is almost finished so I thought I'd have another visual check. I cut the two triangular sides to the same height as the backscene but I think it's too high in comparison to the original cut up envelopes so I will cut them down.
  3. I've just discovered this gem what a fantastic looking layout I shall follow with interest.
  4. I was thinking of something like that, just have the whole base raised at a slight angle to give that impression.
  5. I've been playing around with the dimensions available trying to work out the best way to force the perspective. After playing around with different ideas And cut a few envelopes into triangles and tried this: By looking at the base in a diamond position and then using the triangles to force the perspective I think it tricks the eye into thinking there is more depth than there is and to prove the test... My trusted spitfire held roughly in place, I think it works quite well.
  6. Im looking into it there are some very cool effects people have achieved online with various methods, this will certainly be a case of playing around a lot to try and find what works.
  7. So I've been thinking about this challenge for a bit and there are two entries I want to have a go at. One idea will be based on a small portion of Birmingham New Street in the 90s/00s, allowing me to display a loco or piece of rolling stock. My other idea is based on this I love this box art and this will give a great excuse to have a go at military modelling. I'm going to mix scales using a 1:72 Airfix typhoon kit and N gauge track trying to use force perspective to create the imagie. This is roughly the idea I'm going for, I found an old minitrix shell in my scraps box I was going to use but looking online I've picked up a class B 52 (I'm no expert on German locomotives but I believe this is the loco in the box art) by Del prado which are static n Gauge models, either way it will be perfect for the scene. And of course this project will finally allow me to get round to building this It's been sitting in the to be built pile for some time. And the cake connection (although not required) I had a Google and found Typhoon cake tins, bonus!
  8. Mine is just from personal experience of working the box.
  9. There was a rumour going around that there where consideration being made for using a 50, I'd most certainly would not be requiring a sleeping cabin if that was the case. As for the 68s they do produce a good sound, I can always hear them on the approach from Anyho and Banbury, they only other locos that make a better sound in the village are the twenties on the LU stock moves, those beasts make the house shake!
  10. The 57s have not been great performers this year, realiability has been quite bad at some points and I have wondered why GWR haven't looked into alternative motive power, such as the 67 or 68 (although how much sleep you'll get travelling behind the latter is another question).
  11. I had the same problem no sign of it in Sainsbury's didcot or the services at the m40 junction 10.
  12. I can't say I'm familiar with Hoo junction or most lines that run through the Kent area so I had a Google and looked at it on the map and found this video If your going to be modelling that sort of action I'd go for it, it seems like a very interesting location and does seem a great opportunity to run your stock, always good to give your models a run rather than sit in a box especially after the amount we spend on models.
  13. What where you thinking of in regards to a new layout?
  14. Well at least I know why my hasn't turned up but not very impressed it hasn't arrived today defeats the point of subscribing.
  15. Don't know if this article is of any use https://www.ghacks.net/2017/06/30/photobucket-now-charges-399-for-third-party-hosted-images/ $399 a year what a joke!
  16. I recall that article too I think it was in model rail, the warwells are nice models I got one the other day, very impressed . Look forward to seeing how yours turn out. Jimmy
  17. I find the problem is, I think I've got too much so I sell some stock, then I go oh look I have some money from my sales, so I buy more stock, it's a vicious cycle.
  18. There's not really much to show at the moment apart from the kits, but videos I have done videos of the builds of your intrested. https://youtu.be/lChk7UrzGk8 https://youtu.be/lAuFtnmQK2Q https://youtu.be/XKoWhoqaZQc https://youtu.be/iXbWvcOQ9iE Thanks Jimmy
  19. Thanks Andy, they are nice models and quite robust Annie and clarabel have already gone flying onto the kitchen floor and survived to tell the tale. Hello Clearwater thanks for looking, great to see the young ones show an interest, after all as we all know trains are cool. My daughter was a little grabby at first but after telling her how I treated my Hornby Thomas the same way at her age and ended up with him being broken she takes a bit more care now. More impressive is she drives him at a controlled speed rather than the scale 90mph he can reach. I slowly getting through the kits and have been posting on YouTube I have the station and the local houses to build then I can move onto the scenery.
  20. Thanks dogbox, we've slowed with build at the moment, I've built a few metcalfe kits including a shed and the little one likes to put Thomas to sleep in the shed and take him out again, so we've just been playing trains but hopefully will get a start on the scenery soon. Good luck with your build.
  21. Can't be that bad with the paint Simon, I once painted some Hornby cows, it must have been something to do with the rubbery plastic they where made from because a year later they where still tacky!
  22. Always good when the little ones enjoy the hobby. I won't be putting this layout in the garage as it's reserved for my own project, thus why I went for n Gauge so we can store the layout in my little one's room.
  23. Thanks Graham, the layout is certainly a success so far as we've had plenty of testing today, mostly Thomas being chased by a 66 round the circuit which seems to get many hours of amusement.
  24. I think my daughter was three weeks old when I bought her first trains set, I was in the Hornby model shop in Swindon when I saw a Percy and the Mail train, train set on offer. As she got older I bought her few more bits and squirreld them away in prepartion to build her layout for when she was older. My Daughter is on the way to 3 years old now and recently found the train set sat in the garage and insisted we get it out, well I didn't want to discourage her. But the train set has run into the same problem that I have previously had, we don't really have the space for an OO Gauge layout inside the house, not a tail chaser anyway. So I had a think and a look and found that the Tomix n Gauge Thomas range was being released again. So I decided to sell all the OO gauge stock and buy some bits to build a n gauge layout. The new Thomas was an instant hit with my daughter as it could be played with on the coffe table. After collecting some bits to build a layout I started construction. I wanted something simple and lightweight so I opted for foamboard and built a loop based on a track plan I found in a copy of 'st. Michael, The encyclopaedia of model railways' Whilst planning the layout my wife suggested I do some videos for YouTube to help other parents and give them advice and ideas on how to build a layout for their little ones. So I have put together a couple videos over the last week whilst working on the layout. https://youtu.be/uv5kmiwcz_k https://youtu.be/_9sHEkZ9H4A https://youtu.be/MtiI8xJ9200 That's all for now. Jimmy
  25. The strip lights look good, I've been interested in using them myself, what power source do you use?
