    EBay madness

Funnily enough its functionality is not too dissimilar to what I needed for the station throat in my layout, although for compactness I dispensed with two of the slips in favour of putting the required points in the main running lines:
  2. I thought that the number of # matched the number of letters in the censored word? There are six # in the above, and ###### is seven? Edit - it would appear that it maxes out at six. Lets try ###### Nope - it seems you get six no matter how long the word is. No wonder I was struggling to guess which word was actually used, it was taking some time to work through my vocabulary of censored six letter words...
  3. Tee hee! The cars do get rearranged from time to time, I think a lot of the minic cars are back on the cartic where they came from, so there are a few gaps. I suppose it is now more like a Saturday rather than a weekday. Not only that, but they all correctly have no driver! There is also now a barrier and ticket machine at the entrance - which come to think of it includes an 'I've not seen that modeled before' cliche - I will have to get the camera out and post a picture!
  4. tupperware? Hmm, my Station car park is big enough for that, plus I have some double yellow lines on the approach road...
  5. http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/5197-ebay-madness/?p=1755777 Seems that someone thinks we will...
  6. I was a bit 'green', as it was the first farm I worked on. It really was a case of a mean farmer not having the right tool for the job - it should have been a proper mower rather than this old thing dragged out of the nettles. I later discovered that one of the reasons I was struggling was that forage harvesters are very power hungry, and the designated tractor I was given to pull it with was about half the power needed... I could of done the job in less than half the time using a tiny fraction of the fuel if I been given a Ferguson TE-20 and finger bar mower to do it with, which i would have enjoyed driving even in the rain!
  7. I nominate the vindictive b@stard of a machine which was the knackered forage harvester that I had to drag around cutting down oilseed rape stalks when I was working on a farm in 1989. Repeatedly got blocked/broke down and when the farmer was getting annoyed at the lack of progress he did not believe my story. So I decided to demonstrate, I picked the most dense vegetation in the field which was well beyond anything that had always caused it grief before, and the damn thing just chomped its way through it no bother at all! By now I was convinced it did it out of spite and was out to get me...

In my experience it is often the auto focus that causes the problem. I have often had difficulty getting a good shot because the damn thing refuses to focus on the small object in the foreground rather than something in the background. My fairly ancient digital camera has a 'close up' setting which helps, but is by no means perfect. I would expect the cameras used in the previous examples have something similar, but the user did not read the manual...
  9. It is really more of a physical barrier to ensure that technicians can work safely rather than intended as a Faraday cage - although it may well act like it if something did go wrong!. Without any barrier, you are not allowed to work within 2.75m of any live OLE, which would mean an isolation every time a bulb needed changing. With an earthed mesh between you and the OLE, you can work up to that mesh with no restriction, and the mesh itself can be as close as 600mm to live equipment, and even closer to the edge of a momentary passing pantograph.
  10. But I think these days they prefer to be able to use the train again...

Happened to me once when I had a sideline selling Faller e-train items, which are quite popular for O-gauge garden railways. Had 2 MIB diesel locos, and listed one. They usually went for around £40ish at the time, but a bidding frenzy between two bidders broke out to push the price to over £80. I then made a second chance offer to the losing bidder for the second engine and he accepted! I was laughing all the way to the bank!

And presumably why he chose Gostude as his e-bay screen name.
  13. It was difficult to decide whether you were so out of touch you genuinely had no idea what FB was an abbreviation of, or whether you were just being sarcastic, a form of humour not uncommon in a thread about jokes, so 'unsure of meaning' summed up my thoughts perfectly. Thank you for clearing it up so comprehensively.
  14. A curious quote from the Daily Express POLCE article: One cop, who asked not to be named, said: "Shaun Wright spend a lot of money on getting liveries added to previously unmarked police cars to give the impression there are more cops than there really are. AFAIK marked cars can only be driven by the police, so surely in reality they are no longer creating the impression there are less cops than there really are?
  15. I wonder if that was a result in the garage swapping doors between damaged cars that just happened to have the decals applied slightly differently - there might have been another one ending up spelt POLIICE!
  16. I have often thought of modelling a severe downpour and flooding - everything weathered with gloss, pedestrians with umbrellas etc. I would introduce new and never before seen variants of cliches - flooded road underbridge with stranded car, and people pushing, instead of fire engine putting out fire it is pumping out a cellar, queuing traffic all with lights and working windscreen wipers - indeed the trains would have working windscreen wipers too - very dark grey sky backscene - no layout lighting to further simulate the darkness of heavy cloud. Thunder sound effects to occur a second or two after lightning simulated by hidden camera flash, along with a the constant background sound of heavy rain fall. You could have the trains terminating at the station with a Faller rail replacement bus service. Get the timing right and the buses depart just before the train arrives, and the trains depart just before the buses get back... An excuse for a high number of unusual train movements to cope with the disruption and reversal of trains, I think if someone put their mind to it a very convincing fun and novel layout would result!!
  17. Unlike Network rail whose digs seem to go on a bit too long... There is many a true thing said in jest and I think this is going to become a particularly sore point... if there are not enough problems with points already... Please somebody stop me!!!!!
  18. Not quite enough '2's for RSG, I think it is KOYLI. Nice pictures none the less!
  19. I would expect that after a thorough cleaning a tiny drop of loctite or similar will secure it. What oil are you using? If it is not plastic friendly then the oil could be attacking the gear and causing it to loosen. Best bet is buying model specific oil, Gaugemaster do some and although per cc it is expensive, it comes in small amounts and it will last a while. Any good model shop should be able to supply you some, including the RC specialists etc.
  20. Its weird, that 20 looks rather like it is GFYE - Grey roof, no double arrow?
  21. I bumped in to an atom. He said he lost an electron in the collision. Bearing in mind the above post I asked him 'are you sure?' He said 'Yes, I am positive!'

Looks more like hat and coat off to me, and more besides!
  23. A very dirty white van had the words 'clean me' crossed out and underneath 'plough me'
