  1. There were many EPB's running around with L.B.&S.C.R cast on to the axle box covers, just shows recycling was not a new fad!

Do I get a beer if I answer correctly?

What an unfortunate outcome. I wonder if Mr Tilt recognises it?
  4. Unfortunately sound does not recognise scale and travels just as fast whatever the size of the object, i.e. to get a doppler effect the same as the real thing, the model needs to travel at an actual 150mph rather than a scale 150mph, which could be interesting...
  5. Well in the early 1970's, which is the era your locos would represent, assuming they are all painted plain blue, the only colour the Mk2's were painted at that time was blue and grey, so for authenticity any other colour is out. I wonder if by compartment stock you actually mean Mk1's? But it does seem that you are running a bit of a mix - you would not have seen a class 35 Hymek along side an Executive/Intercity liveried HST for example. You may not be bothered by that and just want to run authentic trains, even if it passes one that is out of era. Keeping the 'charter' stock blue and grey only will cover most of what you may want to haul it with.
  6. Its actually worse than that, Class 90's were only introduced in the mid/late 2000's pushing 20 years of age with near 30 year old Mk3's when displaced by the WCML Pendolinos!
  7. I don't know, I thought this thread was about getting lynched, most of the stuff on here might just get a raised eyebrow or the odd mutter, hardly a proper Lynching! No, if you want a proper 'I wonder if I will still be alive when the ambulance gets here' Lynching, then go around kicking out the supports out from under as many layouts as you can!!! (Runs for cover...)
  8. Yes, one wonders if we should have an 'old jokes thread' where moderators could move posts to if appropriate. Mind you it might be easier just to rename this one and start a new 'new jokes' thread!

They look like crude mk1 Commonwealths - ex trix perhaps?
  10. Just had a word, no-one has heard any reports of any issues with the OLE works this weekend. If there were any signalling cable issues it must have been something else.
  11. Blimey, I wonder what they would make of either of my two layouts - one is lego, the other is live steam! Well done none the less!!!
  12. Something to do with eggs perhaps?

    Will it have sound?
  16. One of the other unofficial things Strawberry hill made was a 455/465 adaptor. This consisted of a bakelite plate which was drilled and studs inserted to match up with the contacts in the electrical coupler below the tightlock on the 465. The studs were soldered to the corresponding wires in a jumper cable which could be plugged in to the MU socket on the 455, with the plate clamped on to the 465 coupler. The units could then be worked in multiple, albeit I think with control only over traction and braking, certainly it was not possible to work the 465 doors from the 455. I wonder how many outside of Strawberry Hill were aware of that one!
  17. It was a white wooden affair, in the curved shape of a traditional steam headboard IIRC. It was handpainted, the top line reading 'Strawberry Hill' - I think with a strawberry next to it, and the bottom line was 'Networker Rescue' in blue with the e struck through in red and a red 'o' painted above. Judging by the number of flies stuck to it it must have been used on several occasions attached to whatever assisting loco/unit was being used. Pity I did not think to photo it at the time...
  18. Does it come complete with the 'Notworker Rescue' headboard that they had painted up?
  19. When I was doing some survey/snagging on the first part of the Liverpool to Manchester Electrification, I noticed a small black box, about the size of a lunchbox cable tied to the top of a mast. It had a little aerial on it. Obviously it was not part of the OLE equipment, but it looked like it was put there deliberately. I made enquires and apparantly it is a device that measures vibration. It is tuned to detect a vibration similar to that of a hacksaw cutting through wire. When it does it automatically sends an alert. It can cover quite a reasonable length, I suppose the vibration travels down the wire like the good old tin can and string telephone!!
