  1. I dip into the magazines on an irregular basis but generally find Model Rail to be the one with something quirky to interest me most. Bought this month's in Asda to get the free bookazine that comes with it. Not see this in any other shops. If I'm right there was another freebie bookazine deal in a different supermarket a couple of months ago. I guess it's a useful way of shifting the bookazines and boosting sales.
  2. I've not seen the double bagged copies in Tesco, but they are in Asda. I've just bought one there. For 4.99 you get the December 2017 Model Rail and the 'How to Build a Model Railway 2017' bookazine RRP 5.99. The usual cover price for Model Rail is 4.10, I think, so the bookazine is costing you 89p. It's a beginners guide, as the name suggests but still worth it IMO.
  3. I've learned to look and see what the supermarkets etc offer. BRM came bundled with a free mag in Tesco recently. Then I saw the same issue solo in Smiths. Model Rail has done the same with a free bookazine, again in Tesco, I think. The bookazine deal was probably worth it but I'd prefer the 99p deal over a free mag next time.
  4. I was going to post about BRM being 99p in Smiths (Although full price in the hospital shop where I work!) But hadn't seen the Hornby Mag price all will have to call in another Smiths. (Or see if it rings through at £2 in work)
  5. If you buy Model Rail in Tesco this month it comes with a free copy of Great Model Railways Vol 5 (the Bookazine series produced by MR). This offer is exclusive to Tesco.
  6. I was going to comment on the Tesco exclusive BOGOF deal but I see its been done. Not sure who was moaning about not industrial railways content but the first article the mag fell open at was about the prototype of Molly the Sentinel.
  7. Also in the supermarkets as a bundle with a free copy of Narrow Gauge Railways. I bought that first then saw the 99p versions in Smiths.
  8. Or if you do buy it in Smiths, it's only 99p. (Seen after I'd bought the 2 mag bundle)
  9. BRM are doing their supermarket deal this month again, although this time it's a free copy of Narrow Gauge World, not Garden Rail. Last time the double mag wasn't available in regular newsagents/ Smiths. I bought a copy in Sainsbury's this morning.
  10. Thanks for the info Shortliner and Fat Controller
  11. Baseboard construction. I would go to a woodshop class to learn how to do this particularly if that meant I could build one in an equipped environment. I don't have a suitable workspace at home. I can get basic electrics but a DCC course would be good.
  12. The Triang pickle wagon arrived today. So I guess the next step is to build somewhere for it to load or unload pickles!
  13. Is it possible to just read the one article? Or can I borrow a copy of this magazine off someone? I can post it back.
  14. Thanks for the info. I've seen some of the kits on the Web and source photos.
  15. My wife, Cathy, is a big fan of pickles. I've decided to reuse an old layout and build a pickle factory in her honour. This has been partly inspired by seeing a Triang pickle wagon in a local model shop and then finding one much cheaper on eBay. I've also done some googling and would prefer to model one of the old multi-vat rustic hillbilly style pickling places, instead of an urban factory which was my first thought. I have a couple of HO North American locos, one bought as a whim, the other as a donor chassis for a project that never materialised. Anyway, I'll pop back and update this with progress and if anyone has any tips/ info I'd be grateful if you'd share.
  16. I've got it put the box and had a run. It's a solid piece of kit and comes with sound effects for when it's standing still, head and tail lights that switch when you change direction and a horn. The wagon is very nice too, with drop sides and some crates. Very happy with this.
  17. In case Nearholmer doesn't see my other post, I bought the Playmobil set.
  18. OK. I bought the Playmobil set. Discussed it with my wife who said I'd regret it if I didn't. If she was a bit better she would have gone in and bought it as a surprise. Haven't opened it yet but will post some pics. There were a couple more in-store also priced at £66. This was in Hamley's, Cardiff. Big scale trains here I come...
  19. Thanks for sharing this. Although of course now if I win I might feel a tiny bit guilty.
  20. I guess it's because it's short for "Here is the highlights" which is grammatically incorrect but explains the apostrophe. Unless "the highlights" is a solid block like a highlight reel then it would be OK to use a singular. If you were saying it then you'd probably say 'Here's the highlights' Could have been worse. Could have been "Here're the highlights".
  21. Was this planning to be a UK pickle works? I'm toying with the idea of a North American version.
  22. Some lovely July weather today. Where's the sun gone?

  23. Thanks Nearholmer. I have a bit of inspiration overload at the moment. But this is a project I have been thinking about for ages.
  24. Thanks Nearholmer. That has kind of convinced me that the special offer I saw today is too good to pass up. (See my post on the Starting from Scratch thread)
