  1. The one "what if" not mentioned could have been transfer to Derby research. I imagine they would have been quite keen on a high speed loco for test train purposes.
  2. My little homage to a great film, two Jags were used in the film however a continuity error has one with wire wheels one with hub caps! The Cortina should really be a 4 door, for those interested here's a link to some of the other cars in the film https://www.imcdb.org/movie_67128-Get-Carter.html and my tribute page, see the whole album.
  3. Following on from my take on Evening Star on the S&D, I've added on second 9F to my roster(a third is awaiting weathering!). This one is of 92079, a long term resident of Bromsgrove and the Lickey(there's a thread for that somewhere on RMweb). I noticed from photographs 92079 carried Big Berth's headlight in the first few years, but at some point this was removed. Carrying on with the Lickey theme a apair of 94xx and the last Jinty are either done or on the bench.
  4. As layouts go Dewsbury Midland could fall into the "bleak" category.
  5. I moved to Orpington for promotion in the spring of 1983, on moving away at the end of 1986 to Manchester Victoria the then area manager had a quick chat with me. He had started his railway career at Newton Heath as a cleaner, he wished me well and handed me a list of names of those he knew in those early days as an engine cleaner. Of the names on the list around half a dozen were still around. Sadly I can't remember the area managers name can anyone help.
  6. There are plenty of options for handrail knobs if you search OO scale handrail knobs, also Petersspares. https://www.petersspares.com/ The shop carries lots of Hornby spares including hand rail knobs might be worth getting in touch. As long as the deflector isn't damaged pretty much any handrail knob will do the job. Hornby 9f smoke deflectors also from Peters spares, can't be that much difference in in fixings.
  7. The problem with the Mk1's is the difficulty in dismantling to paint interiors and add passengers, by contrast the Mk2 & 2a are easy to get into. My favourite Baccy coach are the Met Cam Pullmans.
  8. Whole album of class 46 images here with many pre TOPS locos, I note several locos with dual brakes and nearly all original fittings. Full set of sand boxes, open boiler steps, include extra bogie ones. https://www.flickr.com/photos/67444577@N02/albums/72157628878131355 Interesting that I can only find one class 45 in the same condition D53, see below page 3. https://www.flickr.com/photos/67444577@N02/albums/72157628880435119/page1
  9. Nothing wrong with using stock Bachmann images, several reputable sellers do this for new sales. I buy regularly from one who's entire listings for Bachmann consist of company images. Take a look at the current class 45 listings and there are images of the real loco for some examples.
  10. One thing to understand is the financial risk a club takes, at the moment I don't think it's worth it. A potential £25k loss for barely £5k profit if the goal post(currently on casters)get moved. These are the figures we are currently looking at in my club. Imagine a major CV rule change a few days before the doors open, this could cause enormous problems for a club. You then have the question of sufficient willing volunteers, plus a potential reluctance by traders to attend if the sums don't stake up. I'd be interested to know the thoughts from traders and show volunteers around attending shows at the moment.
  11. I recently came across a picture of a Fairfield Shipbuilding and Engineering loco being used on a railtour. It's of a two axle steeple electric taken in 1962 in Govan goods yard and around 50 people are sitting on two bogie bolsters! See BR Diesel Traction in Scotland page286.
  12. It's quite possible that the 304 had failed enroute, the platform is the loop looking towards Manchester
  13. D7638 possible next project, I have many rats in my loft!
  14. Thread bounce, but I'd be interested to know what decals you used?
  15. As young 2nd secondman starting my footplate career in 1978 I have fond memories of these locos, many fresh of the production line. To me 56036 will always be special, not because it was large logo genesis but because it arrived at Coalville almost new as I sat waiting for the interview which set me on a 40 year career! So I really hope to see that loco in the range , special commission anyone? Here is 56060 passing the fueling point at Burton on Trent circa 1980 Here is 56064 at Drakelow C station. Note 064 has the larger headlight another minor difference, this was in as new condition, 061 being the first to carry the larger style from new.
  16. Well Heljan already do the "ice cream van"
  17. If you drink enough beer, everything goes fuzzy after awhile.
  18. That shed road was used for a specific purpose, I only went to Toton a half dozen times in the 5 years I was based at Coalville ('79 to '83) but I seem to recall seeing heavy(underframe) cleaning being done.
  19. I came across a picture of D123 with a fresh coat economy green, the roof appeared to not have been painted as it was filthy. The picture appears in Rail Portfolio 4 The Peaks. They were after all "economy" repaints.
  20. Rail online D36 at Beeston https://www.rail-online.co.uk/p920577291 The other two seem to be more illusive, what I will add is your time frame puts them firmly in the scruffy era. The locos were difficult to fuel up without overflowing particularly for a lone fitter. The only gauge is internal so the lazy way was to wait until the overflow kicked in. If you look closely at the Bachy Peak above, between the fan and the cab are two pips these are actually over low valves. What this means is the roof was pretty much dirty black from end to end. This answer only works if you like your locos weathered!
  21. I occasionally worked a train of mixed TTA/TEA which originated from Stanlow, the train divided at York. TEA's went down the Scarbrough line onto the Rowntree branch whilst the TTA's went to Harrogate . North West depots were served by an Ellesmere Port tripper, Longsight getting 2 or 3 TEA's. I'm sure I've seen this train depart LO with a few TTA's in tow enroute to somewhere else, this is circa 1986 to around '94? Just out of interest why did the Jarrow and Leeds trains contain a single TTA, see here.
  22. Surely should be "Fordson Model OO"!
  23. Just had a jiffy bag arrive which was supposed to contain Xacto blades, the envelope was split along the side seam and empty. Pictures sent to seller of empty jiffy bag and seller has responded by saying he will contact the shipper, all fine so far. Except, I note the back of the package has a customs declaration sticker "CN22 May be opened offcially" plus this wording in French. Nowhere does the seller state on his Ebay listing that items arrive from the EU, I would not have bought them If I'd know this. My guess is as the item was blades they have been confiscated.
