  1. Never saw these coming. Wonder what 37 will come in the highlander set. liking the farish cumbrian mountain express too.
  2. I wouldnt thank me for pointing out another example of the slippery slope we are on with the misuse of the english language.are you transatlantic.if so I can cut some slack as that is the side of the pond some of this rubbish eminates.if youre a Brit though, do try and keep it real.
  3. Dont perpetuate this latest craze of adding the word "already" to a sentence that does not need it.ive heard it more just lately and to say its wholly american ptretentious bs speak is an understatement.as is talking but ending every other sentence as if you was asking a question ill placed upper inflection.gets on my nerves.Now....as you were chaps
  4. Forgot to add I cut the tint free hand roughly 11.5mm x 4mm maybe a smidge smaller. Extremely fiddly but very rewarding.
  5. no the seating is held in by 4 clips on the chassis. the seat moulding is just like you find in a Lima Mk3. it can be removed once the glazing and chassis are off leaving it sat in just the body. ive thought about this a bit more. I did manage to remove the glazing - it is not 4 or 5 pieces but one complete unit. If you wish to remove it start at one end and work to the other end - dont start in the centre and try to work out or you will break something. its good if you want to detail or paint inside the coach (ie paint the seating or partitions, vestibules in yellow, cream or red for the early buffets) but if you just want to tint the windows my advice is tint on the outside. a) its looks so much better and b) fitting tint film on the inside goes well right up until the point you insert the glazing back into the body - its so tight the film gets scraped off in places rendering your work a waste of time.I If you want to paint the seating moulds then you need to desolder the 2 wires for the lights and slip the moulding off the wires. Easy enough. Here is one coach complete on both sides.......a big difference. I plan to paint the vestibules in bright signal yellow on my new blue/grey and early executive Mk3s.
  6. Of course there is the option of possibly having a bash at cutting the tint to fit the outside?? One would have to be very accurate although I think it would look better.
  7. What I might do is have another bash at the weekend using something much thinner than plasticard. Perhaps try some stanley knife blades or similar as that may give a bit more room for the glazing to tuck back in from the bodysides but be just enough to slip up past the seat backs.
  8. Already tried it here thats not the problem - the problem is accessing the glazing. It cant be done (well).
  9. In word no.see the othe Dapol mk3 thread.
  10. Yeah gpod point because c&m were offering discounted seat mouldings from a 1st class coach for those wanting to cut and shut the seating for an authentic CO. Maybe c&m could confirm if this is actually possible?
  11. ha... ive come up against a brick wall because you just cant access all the windows with the glazing in situ. to do a neat job its all got to come out. the glazing is in 4 separate pieces inside. i removed one of the central sections and broke the overhead brace part. those with the toilet windows - forget it. they aren t coming out but that unit needs to come out to tint the main window thats next to them. you cant remove the seating or the glazing at least not without risk of breaking the glazing or the small pips onto which your roof clips around. so break the pips off and your roof wont go back on correctly. ive tried every which way on a cheap coach and its a non starter really. the seating has to come out from above as the base is solid. the seating is kept in place by the glazing but you try and remove any of the glazing, its so fiddly and impossible without breaking something. clearly these werent designed with disassembly in mind. such a shame...... project abandoned. come on Dapol get the plastic changed !
  12. the C&L 00 track on Horsfield in this months Hornby magazine really looks very good even under the microscope from above looking down straight onto it. just about gets away with not looking narrow gauge - something we are all wanting to avoid.......
  13. As far as the concrete sleeper offering is concerned I would have to ask if you are looking at the right Easitrac. The difference of the Easitrac over the Peco offering is staggeringly good.
  14. Hattons have a test track dont you know.........I wouldnt have left the shop without giving any new loco purchase a quick run.
  15. also never realised how raked back the front of the 85 cab was - check it out on that photo with the SYP. i knew it was raked but that looks really raked back......
  16. is that the same for the Gaugemaster and Olivias Trains versions?
  17. I'm beginning to think you might just be right in that assertion having dipped back to this thread for a catch up.....
  18. Currently experimenting with a Dapol Mk3 to tint the main windows. Looking at the above photo of the ScotRail Mk3 the tint looks quite dark in comparison but I think in scale terms if you went that dark in N gauge you would not be able to see into the coach. Will post a photo once all the windows are done but I think its looking quite a lot better for it. On this particular model I am sure the no smoking decals should be higher up on the windows.
  19. Bit of experimenting tinting the windows being as Dapol arent doing it (yet?). For those that felt the tint would be inconspicuous maybe this will convince. One window done on both sides. Doing both sides really makes the model look a bit more like it with just the right amount of opacity. I think this will really improve the premium feel of the Mk3 especially with authentic painting of the seats/picking out the headcloths, maybe the addition of curtains too. With lighting it should look very good. Early days.......still playing with the coach but its very fiddly and i think to do a repaint of the seats and tint all the main windows the glazing has to come out but it looks rather fragile...........easy to clip in no doubt but a pain to unclip and slide out.
  20. I want to repaint the moulding inside for the seats. does anybody know how to remove it?
  21. another point is that to maintain the warranty with sound locos (as an example) you invalidate it if the paper seal over the decoder is removed or broken. MOre power to the elbow of those willing to try both Kens modifications and/or Bachmanns own advice but only if you are confident in your skills/abilities. Should any work go awry and matters are made worse I wonder where folk stand if they then return the model to their retailer or Bachmann........ If it was me I would just send it back now and not touch the thing.
  22. Well if I buy a new car with no 1st gear I'll get my toolbox out and fit one.honestly ken yes your fix is admirable but modelling doesnt really include getting a model to run correctly out of the box.if it did maybe we should be paying less for them if the manufacturer knows we like to fix them before we can use them.if you wish to refer to those who are unhappy with their models as throwing their toys out of the pram then it suggests youre being unfairly derogatory towards people with genuine concerns and have every right to remove their model from the box and expect it to perform its basic function.i dont even remember having the same experiences as you had with old lima models.those ran fine out if the box albeit with the familar lima roughness. What would you suggest if none of the lights worked due to a fault with the circuits?
  23. lets hope new locos that have been decided on now or a year or two ago for future release in 2015/2016 arent lined up to receive a similar drive system unless this is completely ironed out.
  24. not the craziest idea in the world what with the new farish 87s being released.
  25. You and probably a few hundred others, after all this insight into its poor performance. I struggle too with the concept of Bachmann putting in gobs of grease only to then tell people to remove it with a cotton bud. Why put grease in there in the first place (or is it to aid a smooth bedding in of the gears?). Why dont they just give a light oiling at the factory?
