  1. You've beaten me to it Castle. I would definitely be up for some in 4mm.
  2. I reckon it's a peak summer Saturday and the driver has had to take a cleaner out. The young lad has made a hash of it so the driver has told him to sit down and look for signals while he sorts it out...
  3. Steve, now youve got the miniature railway and palm trees sorted had you considered a campig coach? ▶ Railway Roundabout 1958 'The camping coaches' - YouTube Lots of 'em about in the west country, old clerestories and so on, even the famous Pullmans at Marazion. I remember being fascinated by the one I saw a Falmouth as a kid. Just a thought. TP
  4. Marvellous idea Steve. Halcyon days indeed and at least it can always be sunny on your beach!
  5. Steve, you're probably way ahead of me on this but just in case not, the March issue of British Railways Illustrated has a long article by Brian Penney on working with Kings. There are three good photos of Ranelagh plus lots of first hand anecdotes. More for April as well. TP
  6. I was only a nipper at the time but I definitely remember seeing them on the Falmouth branch goods from the window of our B & B in Melville Road, Falmouth. Also, not totally certain on this, but I think occasionally in pairs on the Padd - Falmouth.
  7. I can empathise with that view Steve. It's all about time as well. I'm lucky if can get an hour of an evening, weekends are pot luck. Soldering isn't that hard but there's no way I could build an etched kit to the standard of some of the masterpieces on here. Like you, I would take no pleasure from creating something second best. At the end of the day it's a hobby for pleasure so do what you enjoy.
  8. I'm by no means an expert on Bulleid tenders but the dimensions of MN & WC tender drawgear is very slightly different so a WC with an MN tender is very much a 'preservation' thing. The MN tender chassis is totally different to the light Pacific version. The latter being a U class tender chassis turned backwards...
  9. Just noticed this... > 44-0032 28ft static caravan < in the Bachmann announcements. Is there anything we need to know?
  10. I know Cornwall better than Devon so Porthleven and Pentewan come to mind as small harbours. The latter being served by narrow guage at one time.
  11. That is looking jolly good now! Really captures the look of the real thing which I think is the best looking tank engine ever, bar none. I'm still collecting parts for mine and yesterday a Comet chassis arrived from Mainly Trains. I really must resist the temptation to make a start though until until I've cleared the decks bit!
  12. Thanks David. That's a convincing scene there. I particularly like the bus crew standing across the road. Trevor
  13. I'm no expert but I'm sure you are correct. Just recently I purchased a copy of 'Steam in Devon' by Peter Gray (1995) and it carries photo of the Ashburton goods just south of Dainton Tunnel with pannier 1608 in charge. The train is mainly comprised of cattle vans. There must have been other pickup goods ad milk traffic. Here's another vote for your backscenes by the way! In your first photo there a single deck bus. I was wondering which manufacturer as Im on the look out for a bus of this type and vintage. All the best, Trevor.
  14. An Airfix 61XX body has just arrived courtesy of eBay. As if I didn't have a enough to do already... Never mind, a project for every mood!
  15. Looks like a bunch of outlaws eyeing up a newcomer in an old saloon in El Passo or somewhere...
  16. I like the way you have created a spacious feel and, to me at least, it is unmistakably South Devon. The Devon General bus in the forecourt reminds me of the many West Country holidays of my youth!
  17. Excellent stuff! Many thanks for shareing.
  18. Looks a good little project. I keep going back to the very first photo - the view looking over the bridge. We've all stood there haven't we!
  19. That grey 37 looks extremely good. I really do like that. Restrained and very realistic!
  20. I have a head full of useless information so I'm told but wasn't that for a TV ad for Solvite wallpaper adhesive..? Personally I'd like to see an A4 in that 'chameleon' paint they use on TVRs - the one that changes colour depending on how the light falls on it.
  21. Will be following this with interest, one of the best looking tank engines on any railway!
