  1. Another nice building in that area is this one - the Morocco Store. This has been used a film location on a number of occasions, for its olde worlde look. I worked briefly in the same office as the guy who issued Southwark's filming permits, that's how I know.
  2. Let's start with the oldest fuzziest photo of a piece of rerailing kit being tested. The second print shows the other side but without the people. It's there to show the equipment better and is by Dad's friend and colleague Alan Newman.
  3. This topic has proved more interesting than I thought it would be. I have been surprised how most of the photos have been recent, when one considers the lengths of modern freight trains. Going through Dad's photos of the 50s & 60s I have only found the two photos above and this one, which has two short trains back to back. I don't know whether the left hand train had a loco on it at that point or even if it qualifies as a 'short' train, but the one on the right does. The two brake vans mark the start and finish of the two trains heading in different directions out of Wells.
  4. When I put Dad's photo on my ipernity photosharing pages, someone who had also been there, put a link to a coloured version he had on Flickr. He and Dad must have been standing a few feet apart. https://www.flickr.com/photos/60631240@N02/6092349170/in/photolist-ahmT9W-7vCEMZ-borbXp-bNcf6i-bqLHTC-ijtcDD-c1swb-5DeXwG-dL1Nph-7w1peS-NGUAF-6Hd3CP-7k95iD-bTGS7-GyfNf-78s2hh-asvRKU-8BTqDZ-4MxTA4-a91L84-7BWnn9-7zAHCE-22fr4F-4YdfMP-786CyP-7hw5gK-2ytt5d-9spxdf-9nenoA-78dBfW-dqyJu9-ieCmaC-jpycW2-39Ftnb-8S48nH-e66G97-4DYnqA-78pAzj-2a1CKW-bXatHA-9aciP2-5EDqLq-9ac6yB-9acdZZ-fgnEBB-e9NP1h-gBRXKL-7yiEhk-5HQ1ip-bY2nSm
  5. How about short goods trains for today's topic, say under ten wagons? This my favorite from Dad's albums
  6. Nice to see official recognition of the hobby - TRAINS SPOTTERS and other members of the public.......
  7. This one has been on RMWeb before, but I can't remember if it was in this thread. At Patchway - on Saturday October 2, 1971, 6000 King George V makes a return to mainline steam, running from Hereford to Tysley.
  8. Dad, I believe, took this party probably from Ripon Grammar School on a spotting trip, around 1950
  9. Quite a range of barriers here from white 'cottage' palings to barbed wire topped security fencing. The A259 south coast road is quite a busy road, as, although much of the through traffic goes over the fly-over at the top of the picture, the A27 feeds into it just to the right of the crossing and the Newhaven port entrance goes off to the left of picture. The latter has cross-Channel HGV traffic in and out several times a day, which mostly turns right over the crossing and on to the A27. In addition there is heavy goods traffic into various waste and recycling units and Days Aggregates rail and sea-served depot. All this must explain why the level crossing seems to need very frequent attention and regular replacement. It still gives a fairly rough ride unless taken quite slowly.
  10. Here's one from near our home on Mendip - plenty of atmosphere in this shot. I particularly like the tin shacks with tall chimneys.
  11. I am not an expert in such matters and Dad took little note of rolling stock. Certainly 4, 5 and also 8 appear to have fairly deep waist panels, below slightly shallower windows. You can see a larger version at http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/gallery/sizes/75393-bt03-4917-crosswood-hall-down-express-nr-hbr-summer-61/large/ if that helps
  12. One from our home patch in Somerset, some basic post & wire with some culvert details.
  13. This traditional Southern Railway style station comes with built-in pill-boxes to help defend the Newhaven approaches from invaders. It used to be double track. The station building is on the down side at footbridge level.
  14. I won't give you my treacle painted ex-HD 8F SDJR 7F - it's just too poor compared with the Bachman version.
  15. London's Liverpool Street Station just after it had had a major overhaul in 1992. Dad who was by then more-or-less house-bound wanted to see the changes, so I nipped over from Bermondsey in my lunch hour and made him an album of my snaps. That was before we could put stuff on line - remember back then? These were a couple of the shots.
  16. As it's only three and a bit months to Christmas, here's the approach to London Bridge looking all sparkly
  17. Filed under B for buses! This is the road face of Hastings station.
  18. Another of my 45+ year-old S&D conversions - Triang L1 chassis & K's tender with a scratch-built (incomplete) body. How about a Mogul this time?
  19. Wasn't that William Henry Barlow, Roland Mason Ordish and George Gilbert Scott?
