    Falcon in 7mm

Why produce these 1-off prototypes, not that they will appear? Where are the classes 17, 21, 22, 28, 29 with genuine mass appeal? Still waiting for the AC railbus..... Dava
  2. Graham Be good to see Netherwood at Quorn, I'll be there with Coney Hill. Hope you have better luck with the electrics than at Derby. Dava http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/65446-coney-hill-light-railway/page-5&do=findComment&comment=1429774
  3. Andy, You'll be welcome to drop by Coney Hill on your day at the GCR if you'd like a play. Dava
  4. Great to see these remarkable photos at our local gypsum factory where today you get a GBRF 66 and preserved stock (grateful for it), not as colourful as this. Dava
  5. Look forward to seeing this (again) at Derby, it captures the weight of the Woodhead electrics like no other Dava
  6. It was Record Store day on Saturday, the aim being to get people to buy vinyl from Indy record shops....if you can find one. Model shops are similar - support the good survivors, like GeeDee in Nottingham, Railway Barter in Long Eaton, the one in Lincoln I go to, otherwise there will be none except traders at shows. I'm off to Canada where you might find one in a million square miles! Dava
  7. One still with us, but old school, is the Railway Barter Shop in Long Eaton, always worth a look, friendly but not much 0 gauge Dava
  8. Yesterday we visited the Irchester Narrow Gauge Railway Museum near Wellingborough. This is (so far as I know) the only site with metre gauge preserved locos in the UK, which worked on the local ironstone quarry railways. It's small but has some choice and well-restored exhibits, and they are friendly and deserve a donation (entry is free). Cambrai, a unique Corpet Louvet French light railway loco, well restored in static condition. Peckett 0-6-0ST no. 1871, restored but out of boiler ticket. There are three locos to the same basic design here. A WW1 Simplex armoured loco, currently without its engine. Ruston & Hornsby '48DS' ED10, ex BR. This loco was started up and ran some display shunts - thanks guys!. These are tiny locos in standard gauge but proportionately bigger on metre gauge. This one was 3' gauge for Beeston sleeper works before having rubber tyres fitted for running on the concrete beam track of the LEV test line. ED10 with Peckett 87 & a rather bored & damp Mrs Dava! Worth a visit on the last Sunday of eath month when they run on the test track. Dava
  9. There is an OPC book on railways of the Manchester Ship Canal, I got a s/h copy, it has basic small scale dimensioned drawings of these locos Dava
  10. Pretty much the opposite, if you look at 'Main Line Lament' for example the latterday GCR coaching stock was largely maroon Mk1 stock with plenty of LMS and LNER (Thompson & Gresley) stock, but not hauled blue/grey stock or blue diesel locos. Suspect the blue/grey livery stock was initially used mainly on the West Coast electrified service and gradually spread to the other main lines, whilst the GCR faded away. But maybe there was a special or diversion train which used it? Dava
  11. Great, what a worthwhile project. How are the prints & cards available? Dava
  12. Aberdeen docks were interesting. The normal dock shunters did not have skirts (see the Aveling & Porter loco top left on the docks) but the Aberdeen Gas Works locos which used the dock lines to gain access to the gas works did. There was 'City of Aberdeen', 'Bon Accord' 'Aberdeen Gas works No 3' and 'Mr Therm' , all preserved, before they were replaced by diesels which did not need skirts. http://www.srpsmuseum.org.uk/10002.htm http://www.bon-accord.org.uk/history.html http://www.bon-accord.org.uk/gallery.html?catid=1 Just google 'aberdeen gas works locomotives' for images Dava
  13. I'd like a 7mm one! There is a similar loco at Embsay, so the Fry's one is not quite unique, but 'British Tar Products' can't really compete with Frys Chocolate... Dava
  14. Fantastic, I love this heartwarming tale of the recovery of the Somerdale Sentinel as well as great photos of the loco at work. Eric Miles and Corbs deserve thanks for this, the greatest thing will be to see this Sentinel back in action. Dava
  15. Dave Scragg & the team at Foxfield deserve every credit for these rebuilds Dava
  16. New album of Peckett official photos from IRS by Andrew Smith, recommended with photos of the Works & many interesting locos. Dava
  17. What scale is it actually in? 4mm default? 7mm would be useful! Dava
  18. Steam-hauled Mk2s: Southern region had at least one Mk2 (a FK) which was green - I have a photo of it (in a book) 2nd in a long train of green mainly Bulleid coaches leaving Waterloo for Basingstoke in 1966 hauled by 5MT 73118. I dont imagine there were many of these, it may have been unique. Dava
  19. There were no photos or diagrams in the books but a web search for Hurlford came up with this - evocative images http://www.railbrit.co.uk/slideshow/slideshow.php?loc=Hurlford Dava
  20. Jock, David L Smith was the historian of the GSWR, I don't know if the Assoc have his archive but I'll check in the books he wrote tomorrow. Best wishes Dava
  21. Thanks, I was thinking about using sheets cut from Coke cans. I just need to buy or make a mould. Dave
  22. How do you press the corrugations into the metal? Effect looks good. Dava
  23. Derek, Your drawings are orderly reminders of a tidier, bygone age, thank you. Dava
