We went a bit faster with the PT47 and the pacific a few years back. Both absolute beasts of things to fire though - not for the faint hearted!

Last time I saw 43106 it had a diesel engine in it!

Sounds too much like hard work - prefer the big EE handle meself :)

  2. The SVRs peep behind the scenes event is on Saturday, I'll be there showing people round the LNER groups pigeon van 70779. http://www.svr.co.uk/SEItem.aspx?a=50

  3. Woo Hoo ! My A level exams are all done so now I've got 12 weeks to crack on with the layout before (Hopefully!) going off to uni !

..Versity. I believe its called University. A pet peeve, sorry. But I wish the current generation would give it the respect it deserves. (Steps off soap box!)

    2. Ragtag

      Ragtag

A little confused how shortening the name equates to a lack of respect. My pet peeve - needless nitpicking.

Good luck Sam, and enjoy a well-earned break!

Lucky beggar! Finished my AS exams a few weeks ago, but I still have to do my A2 exams next year ...

  4. hmmm, I feel like building a photo plank... I blame blueeighties thread and Andy Y's BRM article ! ;)

  5. My dad has found this 1/24 Lotus 97 on an F1 forum, I know it's not railway related but just look at the detail on it !!! The shots of the the nuts that are 0.5mm wide next to the coins then on the engine, just mindblowing. http://www.f1m.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=29&t=19258

Makes me want to start making F1 kits again

Thats some of the finest modelmaking i think i have ever seen. All the parts he has replaced in the kit are superb. I couldn't help but think what he would be like if he was let loose on a O gauge kit by the likes of Finney.

  6. Is 17 today :O that crept up on me !

Have a great day Sam! Three lifetimes and more to me - I started work, had money, and oh the railway I was going to build. Ermm, still planning it. Lesson: 17? grab the moment NOW!

Very lucky. Any Aussie cars this year?

      Sam*45110*SVR

Not any that I noticed... Could've been an aussie bike or dragster thing (not a real car in my opinion!) there that I didn't recognise. They had the replica of trevithicks steam carriage there and the Vulcan did a display too !

    3. 69843

      69843

Nice touch with the steam carriage. I was over there in 2009, and managed to see the 'Moffstang' (http://www.bowdensown.com.au/allan-moffats-1969-trans-am-mustang)being driven around. Ah, memories...

  9. I was about to try to apply for my provisional on the DVLA website, only to find it was down for maintenance. Oh well over to southern pride... damn two in a row !

  10. Got back from holiday to find almost 200 notifications on here, you lot have been busy !

  11. I was spotting half way up the lickey incline today from 2-3 and just as I got there a DBS red 60 went up on an oil train, then I started speaking to a photographer nearby who had been there since 10:30. He said he had only seen 2 freights before I arrived. A 66 light engine passed on the up and then he left. In the next 15 minutes I was passed by a 66 on a steel train then an up nuclear flask train behind 2 37s immediately followed by a tamper on the down line! Good luck for me not so mu...

Right place and certainly right time for you.

  12. Volunteering today at Bewdley today I was sat on the platform eating a pot noodle as 5164 came in and then left. It was a gorgeous sunny day, and 5164 could be heard lifting it's train all the way up to the tunnel. Can anyone think of a better time/place to eat a pot noodle !

    1. RJS1977

      RJS1977

Reminds me of the story of the guy from Colorado who took a Pot Noodle back to the shop and complained that there was no pot in it!

  13. Oh dear, I've just worked out that when there is a star next to a topic it means you have replied to it!

  15. For my AS level D&T project I'm making a chair for my railway in the garage and I thought "someone is bound to have thought of this before me, I'll google it." Nothing, not a single chair (well pway dept chairs)! Does everyone just use office chairs ?

I use late mum-in-law's perching stool. The kind of thing old people have in kitchen which is just below working surface height with sloping seat and lumbar support. Combine that with eg driver's seat and you'd have a winner
