  1. Make a nice pub in the middle of a terrace. As for the terrace I have purchased, I will probably replace the windows with some Tichy Trains sash windows and the doors from the same source. May get another to convert to the Traveller's Rest on the other side of the road.
  2. The picture dates from 1935. Probably fell down as the photographer left.
  3. Hazy shade of Winter - The Bangles
  4. That's it. Thank you. Obviously not using the correct term when searching. Just bought this, A bit of work shouldgive me a reasonable representation of the Smiths arms Hotel at Aberbargoed. Could add of extra windows upstairs and block out a couple of doors on the ground floor.
  5. Some time ago, I saw someone using a laser cut, either farmhouse or pub. basically it was an MDF shell, to which you add your own window and finish. Can't for the life of me remember who it was, or the manufacturer, just that it was 4mm scale. Anyone know?
  6. Couple more pictures, both in the USA. This first one I have in the planning, as it will fit nicely on the narrow gauge layout. My son is playing around with the sign to get me something I can work with. Next is somewhere in the Midwest USA. Loads of places like this in Kansas, Oklahoma and Texas.

  11. Starting this as I can't find one in a similar vein and it's more than just inspiration. Feel free to add any picture you feel is in the same vein, whether UK or anywhere. Came across this photo in the Disused Stations group on Facebook. Aberbargoed station. Taken sometime after closure, I am not sure if the line was still open at that time. The rails look used, but it may be that they are just wet. Photographer unknown. If I find out, I will add. Most of this has been swept away to widen the road, though I understand that part of the far end of the platform remains. The Middleton Press book covering this line show a couple more pictures. In one of them, the line is still in use, but Smith's arms Hotel is gone. Picture of buses threading their way under the bridge can be found on the Risca Museum website. Halfway around the World, we find this. Photo: Peter Enlund Molesworth in Victoria. taken in 1978, the line is long closed and now a cycle route.
  12. The Phyllis Nicklin Collection is wealth of inspiration for 1950-60 scenes. I used a couple of the shots as part of a backscene on one of my previous layouts.
  13. As long as the layout is interesting and well built, anything will attract my interest. In 2018 I visited the Liverpool show in the Sydney suburbs and was so taken by the layouts there, that I seriously considered going down that road. I had already seen YouTube clips of the excellent Lambing Flat. I came away with an idea in my head. However, two years previously, I had visited the Durango & Silverton museum and I suppose that started an itch and when I came back from Australia, I booked a trip to Colorado and the rest is history. My layout at the time was Somerset & Dorset, but in the end I wanted to do something other than what I could see from my upstairs window. I will aways make a beeline for any S&D, Southern or West Country railway at exhibitions, as that is what I was brought up with.
