  1. 34023 Blackmore Vale was brought for £1900 in 1967. But Bulleid Pacifics didn't have copper fireboxes...
  2. Back to preservation attempts I think I mentioned it before somewhere but the very pretty looking Truro to Newquay line via Perranporth was subjection to TWO preservation schemes. The first happened on closure but was hampered by a unhelpful BR (who in the South West knackered other plans until the DVR were finally allowed to take over a line about to be used partly by a new road!). This was despite as it was a number of businessmen behind it who had the money... Then a second attempt start in a manor like the current Helston project, as in a part restoration. The project had I believe a the acquired the goods shed from Lostwithiel and a brake van (info a gentleman on here gave me I think). But when the council decided not to approve some planning process or something the man running the plan threw a hissy-fit and burned everything... The was a duel attempt at preserving a line and locomotives. The Clevedon branch and two ex. GWR pannier tanks were going to be brought and the engines in question were displayed at an open day in Bristol. But for reason I don't know it fell though. The Horsham to Guildford line had an attempt on that. But both BR and the council were too obstructive. In fact deliberate actions were taken to remove track and the like. Now they talking about reopening part of it. Someone has mentioned the Z but a group called the Hampshire Railway Society (I think) wanted to by a ex. LSWR 700 0-6-0. And he last mainland O2 30199. Obviously didn't happen. Talking of O2 someone wanted to save W31 Chale the other remaining O2 on the Isle of Wight in 1967. Not enough money was found. 6853 Morehampton Grange was nearly brought by Mr Whitehouse but went for Clun Castle instead (fair enough though). Yes I know this been a depresting post...
  3. I remember seeing a image of the Chalford - Gloucester 'Auto' service being run using a 94xx pannier tank, which of course meant a run-round at each end...
  4. I do wonder if that was the real issue considering that Crowd funding has succeeded in other projects, because apparently there were 300 responses to the survey. I wonder if it was stupid politics from the F5 group themselves, or that the guy running it got scared to start it. Completely hack me off and ended up me giving up and selling most of the GE Region items I had been collecting (apart from some bits which I will now save for the G5) as I heavly suspect the whole affair has completely scuppered any chance of a F5 now. Why would anyone make one now if there been an failed attempt before it? Complete screw up... As for guesses for what TMC is intending to do I would have said J21 but someone already had that one. So I guessing either the NER Saloon on the Keighley and Worth Valley Railway or a D20 4-4-0 for the hell of it.
  5. Well I struggling. I want to order one but I'm not sure which one to go for. Possibly 67342. However I am very pleased to see this model being announced. Last year I had become very despondent with my modelling. Various failed projects which never worked how I hoped, and a points failure which means I will have to some point rip out my fiddle yard. Also my wish to do a bit of Great Eastern Region fell down flat after the total waste of time of the F5 project, so I decided to sell off all of the GE region stock I had collected including the one Hornby J15 (plus all of my renumbering attempts) so I could have some money for holiday and buy the new ex. SECR Birdcages that came out. But I held off selling the three non-corridor LNER coaches I had just encase something came up. And it has! That together with the new J72 would be something at least. Something new to do, and look at and read about. Well done TMC!!
  6. O gauge working cows
  7. If you want to study a pre-grouping Auto-trailer, isn't there number 38? although she's not serviceable.
  8. Huh? Explain, I thought there was nothing left...
  9. He might be distracted a bit tomorrow as he bit of a Doctor Who fan. The scanning could go all a slew.
  10. Anyone know what the station building will be based on. I have been very surprised n the kits and the ready-to-plant buildings that when it comes to GWR station buildings it always seems to be buildings based on those used on one line that was built by a indepenant company, not one of the standard GWR designs which were built across the country. The only one I know of was the Prototype Models Card Kit for Chalford Station (from the 1890's?). So if Oxford were to do for example: the turn of the century blue brick buildings with the large canopy over the whole building, or maybe even one of the classic looking timber buildings (see the preserved Totness station), or the ultimate, the massive building that stood at Ross-on-Wye, I image it be very attractive to a lot of modellers. Less incentive to go build something I guess, but then maybe it could maybe make some people be different as well... (I been tempted to do the Uxbridge High Street building but A. I couldn't find any plans B. I not much experience of building. C. Become demoralised with modelling if to be honest.)
  11. I happened to have a copy of the book in question and an aritical that was published in BackTrack (Vol. 8 No. 5), both brought on a whim. But... no details of livery are made as such. The pictures (and a reproduction of a water colour) show a dark livery with a light lining around it, but being in black and white that's is about as useful as a putting wheels on a tomato. Maybe if people can track down where this water colour went....
  12. Sorry, should have added ...On the Hill.
  13. No I was commenting on my muck-up the previous... oh, what ever. Oh bother how many 'miss a turns' do I have now I lost count.
  14. It wasn't that clever I just happened to be listening to the song...
  15. Sorry where we waiting for my turn? I Deduct... BAKER STREET
  16. It wasn't with a brass kit I went wrong with. I was trying to improve a old Triang L1 but the motor burnt out. while changing it over a wire broke off so I went to solder it back in. And somehow the chassis melted... I have seen the 3D printed F6 thanks to Nile's Kitbuild challenge entry which I have bookmarked for possible future needs (if I ever able to take the plunge)...
  17. Well i think you have a point there. If Bachmann had done the J15 it probably wouldn't have be ready even by now...
  18. Bachmann 'might' have done the F5/F6 if they continued with their plans for a J15 but as we all aware they grozumpted by Hornby. I doubt they do anything GER now after that one...
  19. I get the feeling it's not going to happen. At all. And thus also ends any hopes of a RTR F4/F5/F6 engine I suspect as well. Especially has flipping Oxford Rail has gone for the N7. I Knew the N7 would have more of a chance after the wish list but I was hoping not. Now with at least one GER passenger tank now in production and also plenty of other GER designs from Horny (and maybe Model Rail), No other manufacture will touch the F4/F5/F6s with a barge pole now if there already been an failed attempt. So this 'proposal' just made certain it never happen. Thanks a bunch for that. I mean why did Crown Funding not be an option? And why did the F5 engine people back out of it? Did they think it provided too much publicity to it? Considering it at the moment a load of plate steel and a cylinder block and it was meant to be finished in 2012 originally? Now I either try build a F6 which would be difficult considering I rubbish with a scolding Iron and I only having about 50% success rate with my Plastic Kit Wagons, and can't seem to find time to finish my ballasting. Or just buy a second Hornby J15 for less outlay then the parts for an F6 would cost. Or just sell everything I had for an East Anglian and just concentrate on my Western/Southern stuff. I know I going to get a load of flack for this and it possibly justified. But since the Oxford plans came to light I been getting cross about it ever since.
  20. I was going to use the Gladstone Rule and jump to Westminster but i not sure it would work. So I guess... HARROW.
