  1. Rails of Sheffield have a Hornby sale with up to 50% off. https://railsofsheffield.com/groups/3024/Hornby-bargains?fbclid=IwAR0OuUkyMbnTESV5ZuJRP0Fl7GmiIhPLeh0yKIxUpupvwXI12mt4KfPZk-4 Nothing we haven’t seen reduced before, but generally good prices and it’s been a while since the B17s have been available at this price and 3 liveries of Class 71s.
  2. And just spotted another couple of bargains at Bure Valley Models R3399 EWS Class 67 Freight Pack at £110 http://www.burevalleymodels.com/p/8181/R3399---EWS-Class-67-Freight-Pack R3398 Lyme Regis Branch Pack at £115 http://www.burevalleymodels.com/p/9241/R3398---Lyme-Regis-Branch-Train-Pack 3 of each as I post this, sadly I am spent up or I would have gone for the Lyme Regis pack.
  3. Just out of interest, how much were Rails selling the Pannier and Lionheart coaches for? Got a set direct from Lionheart for £240 a few weeks ago. Just spotted this morning that Bure Valley Models are selling Hornby GWR Sliding Door MK3 coaches for just £26 each. http://www.burevalleymodels.com/p/14559/R4896A---GWR-Mk3-Sliding-Door-TGS---Era-11 I was able to pickup a complete Rake of 4 to make up set GW03, I had the last complete set, but as I post there is enough remaining stock for 2 or 3 rakes of set GW04. EDIT. I am now confused by two conflicting sources of information for Castle set coach consists. Hornby Magazine and Kernow Model Rail Centres website. The difference for GW03 is that Hornby Magazine quote the two TS coaches as R4915 and R4915A, whereas Kernow quote R4915 and R4915C. So who knows? I guess it doesn’t really matter as the correct power cars are not available in any case. I havn’t got Power Cars to go with them yet, as I am still deciding, R3685 is the closest match as both power cars are adapted and currently work with GW01 and GW02, one power car in each set! But I like Sir Kenneth Grange in the R3770 Pack, having seen it at Paddington. However 43002 was not adapted for sliding door operation, but the GWR Green Power car 43198 was and currently works Castle sets. Hmmm. Anyway, bargain price at £104 plus postage for a complete rake of 4.
  4. I don’t know in this specific case, but Rails normally accept offers up to about 10% off the asking price. so if you are interested there are currently 4 left, maybe try offering around £265. I managed to obtain one from a dealer in Germany a while back for around £200 including delivery, that dealer Modellbahn Union has sold out, but it might be worth a trail of other European dealers, as the set is bound to be less in demand over there.
  5. Hornby R3707 Ruston & Hornsby 48DS in Queen Anne Distillery Livery for £59.99 at Kernow. http://www.kernowmodelrailcentre.com/p/61921/R3707-WSL-Hornby-Ruston-and-Hornsby-48DS-0-4-0-Diesel-Locomotive Lowest price I have spotted this for so far. Paid more for mine a short while back, having honestly expected this livery to sell out quickly. We are nothing if not an unpredictable bunch us modellers!
  6. Only just seen this, just after I got despatch confirmation of my Chocolate and Cream motorised one from Cheltenham Model Centre, guess they didn’t see the note from Dapol in time either. Mind you, I was only planning on running it off a 9v battery in any case, so assuming it works fine I’ll probably just keep it anyway. Guessing the dodgy component is part of a rectifier to change AC current to DC for the motor. If the detailed information gets published it is probably a simple soldering job and a few pence of component anyway. Still looking forward to receiving it in the next few days.
  7. A very large box arrived here from Dapol / Lionheart just over an hour ago. Yes, Garry was right to tell me not to doubt, the 64XX and St Ives Branch B set coaches have arrived. To avoid thread drift, I will take the discussion on the items to the appropriate threads on the forum. All I can say about both the loco and the coaches is wow. It has to be one of the nicest, most well constructed locomotive that I own in any scale. Just a reminder that Lionheart are still offering the St Ives B set of coaches for £200 https://www.lionhearttrains.com/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=53 They are still an absolute bargain for that price with interior lighting, a working tail lamp, die-cast bogies. They are superbly finished. If you have any O gauge BR Western Region tank engine, these are not to be missed. The correct tank engine would really be the forthcoming 45XX from Dapol / Lionheart. I will be eagerly awaiting these to be delivered.
  8. There is a rather nice page of information on the pannier tank 6435 here. Nearest depot allocation being Yeovil Town, but she has made it in to Cornwall in preservation at the Bodmin and Wenford Railway, nearly St Ives! https://preservedbritishsteamlocomotives.com/6435-2/ The Class 08 D3120 had a rather shorter life, being withdrawn in 1967, after just 12 years in service, and cut up the following year! I see that the LMS Crimson Jinty tank is another special exclusive to DCC Supplies, so not sure what is going on there. The prototype made it in to preservation.
  9. Thanks Garry! Yes, I re read my post and thought I might be sounding a bit too negative! I too am tempted by that Dapol 08, I couldn’t understand the odd product code, as Dapol would usually take the format 7D-XXX-XXX, so that explains it. It is a good price and would go well with an early crest pannier, even though I doubt it is a Cornish-based 08. Mind you, one can take things too far and I am no scale modeller, just if it looks right. The Pannier probably never ventured near the St Ives branch. There is a good price on an LMS red Jinty tank as well...... https://www.Dapol.co.uk/7S-026-DCC1 Jinty 3f 0-6-0-LMS-Maroon-16410-DCC-Supplies-Special?page=4
  10. They are now showing the Suburban B set for £200 without the loco, but still a bargain in itself as that is around half the price of the box shifters. Difficult to swallow when you may have missed out on the bundle, but still a great deal for two O scale coaches with interior lights and a working tail lamp. https://www.lionhearttrains.com/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=53 As I stated on Saturday, although I was ‘lucky’ enough to grab one of the last 2 sets, I’ll believe it when I have the loco and coaches in my hands. Not trying to be negative, just managing my expectations! I am not going to order up any O scale track until this parcel arrives, though will probably still make a start in O with a good bargain at some point, the models are just too tempting!
  11. Only 1 Lionheart Pannier and Suburban set remaining now. Forgive me Father for I have sinned...I know not what I have done..... Already into HO, OO and G / 16mm, but just too hard to resist at this price! The cheapest I can find a Suburban B Set for is £399, cheapest I can find the 64XX for is £250, with most going for between £300 and £350! Assuming this isn’t a website pricing error and it gets honoured then this must really be one of the best bargains ever. My order status is ‘Pending’, so not counting my chickens until that updates....
  12. Surely you have time to re-gauge this set for the Sud Harz layout at the weekend Paul? A mini cutter to take out 1cm from the middle of each wagon, a little glue and weathering powder. Put the loco chassis in a mini vice to close the wheel spacing to 12mm and you’re done.
  13. The new July issue of BRM carries a Heljan advert with ‘Expected Soon!’ For the OO Beyer Garratts. Hopefully they are on a boat then. With Ben Jones now established at Heljan I have been hoping for better communication and customer interaction from Heljan?
  14. My best guess is that it has fallen inside the cab itself, if you look at the picture I posted you can see that the ventilator is heading inwards on my version! The only slight issue I have is the front vacuum pipe has fallen off, easy enough fix later with a tiny dab of glue and my magnifier light!
  15. Indeed, especially as that way up leaves the loco on it’s side anyway!
  16. Very similar finish to the first release in this livery, though I think the SE&CR lettering and the running number are in a darker gold shade, to my eyes at least Also of interest are two included headboards, one for The Bluebell Railway, and one for Hornby The Collector, in the same style as the Collectors Club metal badge. I didn’t get to see the prototype at Warley, did she have a Hornby Headboard?
  17. My Club H has just arrived via a DPD, well packed in a strong outer box. First impressions? It is currently still in it’s box as the sliding colour sleeve is, err, not sliding! I have had one or two other recent models with pretty tight sleeves, but this is at a new level! It is going to take a fair amount of patience and care to get the sleeve off without crushing the ends of the red inner carton, just be warned everybody, if they are all this tight, take it slowly! I’ll report back, but can’t budge it at the moment.....
  18. Just had a DPD notification that my H Class is due for delivery on Tuesday 28th. No other emails from Hornby though.

    Missed the boat

Might be worth a telephone call to Kernow’s Camborne shop, I had the last TPE liveried one out of the cabinet at their Guildford branch less than 2 weeks ago. If I spot any on my travels I will post here. Olivia's price is above RRP I think, I am sure Dapol will do another TPE Livery in the next OO batch, whenever that is.
  20. Just wanted to post another example of excellent customer service from Kernow Models. I bought my K2601 D601 Ark Royal from their Guildford shop on its opening weekend. on returning home I spotted a moulding fault on the roof at the no.2 end. I emailed Kernow asking where to send the model and if it was OK to just send the body. Greg replied within 20 minutes, apologised and said it was fine to just send the body to their Camborne address. 3 working days later I have received a perfect replacement, and the return postage cost has been credited to my account with them. Couldn’t ask for better service. Having the body off gave me the chance to fit a Dapol Imperium Decoder, and I am happy to report that I am fully satisfied with this model.
  21. Sadly it appears there is no Eurotrack show this year, the autumn show by Solent Model Railway group at Millbrook last November was also cancelled. I have no further information, can anyone shed any light on this?
  22. Tony, no there are no additional technical details, but there is quite comprehensive prototype information for all of the newly tooled locomotives. It’s a well set out and nicely illustrated catalogue that makes a good read. Sorry I can add no further details on the ‘wubber’!
  23. Picked up the 2019 catalogue along with the February Hornby Magazine for the combined price of £9.99 at my nearest Tesco an hour or so ago. The catalogue is huge at 196 pages and ends with the promise of big things in 2020 for Honby’s centenary. It almost has the feel of a relaunch year for Hornby. For the above posters who didn’t get the catalogue and magazine discount at WH Smith’s today, according to the Hornby Magazine website the discount at Smiths doesn’t start until tomorrow January 10th, whereas Tesco are starting it today. There was nothing to indicate the promotion in Tescos though, so thanks for the heads up on here. Exciting items for me are the IEP Test Train Coaches to go with the R3579 Hitatchi liveried 2 car set, I didn’t really expect them to be produced to be honest. The Terriers, Rustons and Peckett B2s, and, if Hornby get them delivered to retailers well before Christmas, I think the GWR HST Train sets should do very well at that price.
  24. Yes, I have the exact same problem on my Lidl cabinet from 5 or 6 years ago. Over the past few months the black plastic part of the hinges has been shattering and bits falling inside the cabinet. I am wondering where to get suitable replacement hinges? Despite this I might still buy a second one this year if I can still find one, maybe there are supplier contact details inside to buy some new hinges.
