  1. Or two other possibilities - the cymbal sound from the end of an Emmerdale episiode, or, the drum machine sound from Eastenders!
  2. Further to my post 4316 on page 173 my Wainwright Class C is now for sale (unopened). Seems intact and in good order viewing from three sides. Please pm me if your're interested. Thanks and regards Malcolm
  3. I shall be selling my Wainwright "C" class when it arrives. Would require basic cost plus £5:20 RM 2nd Class Medium Parcel postage. I still have the Standard Tank, Princess Coronation and GWR Prairie Tank (all unopened) at identical rates. Please pm me if intrested. Thank-you.
  4. Just looked on the E-Bay link and the message appears; "This listing was ended by the seller because there was an error in the listing", which is a euphemism if ever there was one. At least this particular racketeer was been stopped for the time being.
  5. To conclude this lead topic hopefully which Smiffy started - it reminds me of a wonderful line from a Laurel & Hardy film in which Stan(?) says "You can lead a horse to water but a pencil must always be lead..." - brilliant stuff!
  6. HSE would have had a field -day in your house! I just hope everything including your hands was de-contaminated - (and the saucepan was immediatley condemned!!) - you can't underestimate the evils of lead!
  7. Evening Sir! I did order the "Deltic" through the back issue service mentioned in the mag and received it just over two weeks later from date of posting and that was payment by cheque as well (postage was just 50p)- so miracles can and do happen. Have to say those selling the "Caledonian Single" on E-Bay are obscene imho.
  8. Thanks for the photos of the 45 Shane - most useful. I was amazed to see that bodyside "rain-strip" had been correctly altered sometime during its life-cycle. Not got my model yet but am hoping to to convert it to 45 052 "Satan" (which it only carried for a matter of days!). I did read a review in Model Rail many years ago of a company that produced the Tinsley-style name-plate transfers, both for 37s and 45s, can anyone possibly enlighten me please? Many thanks in anticipation guys. I will of course have to check the nose-ends of '052 first. Regards malcolm
  9. Should anyone be unable to obtain a "King" locally and be desperate for one, I shall be going to Barnsley town centre tomorrow morning and be happy to purchase one (or even two!) for sending on. I would require basic cost plus RM Second Class Medium Parcel rate of £5:20. Please bear in mind that I can only the view three sides available before I purchase. Please pm me before 10am tomorrow. regards Malcolm
  10. Sir, at the risk of of being shot down from many sides on here can I suggest the back issues mentioned page 2 of the mag. viz: FREEPOST RSUZ-REJC-YUAH, Great British Locomotives, Unit 4, Pullman Business Park, Pullman Way, Ringwood BH24 1HD Cost is £8:99 per item plus 50p postage. "please state the name of the publication you are requesting" I paid by cheque (made payable to Amercom) and received my Deltic in just over a fortnight. Hope this hepls. Regards Malcolm
  11. I shall be selling my "T9" when I receive it from my local post office. Also still have the Standard 4MT, Prairie, and "princess Elizabeth" - all unopened- for sale. Please pm if interested. Regards
  12. My GBL "Princess Elizabeth" is for sale (unopened) in remarkably good condition - no warping as I far as I can tell from the three sides viewing. I would require basic cost plus 2nd Class RM Medium Parcel postage. Also up for grabs unopened the Standard 4MT tank and GWR Prairie - please pm me if interested. Thanks and regards to all.
  13. My GBL "Prairie" is now for sale - unopened and with no obvious damage (viewed from the three sides available!). I just require basic cost plus 2nd Class Medium Parcel rate of £5.20 or recorded delivery rate of £6.30. Please pm me if interested. Regards Malcolm
  14. I shall be selling my model when it arrives at my local post office (reserved one - the model that is). It hadn't arrived Thursday but I shall be calling Monday aft and if successful, I'll let you know again, if you wish Sir.
  15. I have to point out that I simply wrote to the address quoted and presto hey! some 16 days later..glad I'm not a subscriber though after all the horror stories on here.
  16. Bill - i purchased my "Deltic" through the back-issues service and received it within just over two weeks of posting the letter so I was pleasantly suprised. I have managed to fit the Lima class 37 bogies in it, and will be putting a post & photos on here in the vnf. Regards Malcolm
  17. Aye aye... ther's nuttin down 'ere for you lah!!!!
  18. Whilst my contribution is a little late, my RCTS 1983/4 stock book just gives just three LMS design vehicles surviving - 31030/31241/31289 all BGs - most of the 4 wheeled stock went 1981/2 with ending of the parcels collections service in May(the 8th?) 1981. I always though the LMS CCT was a most attractive vehicle. I didn't start taking coaching stock numbers until 1973 (and got some weird looks at the time!), sadly didn't have a decent camera. I remember M37311 well in clean rail blue livery at Barnsley Exchange Station - it had been shunted too far and the buffers were the other side of the buffer stop - never saw how it was retrieved but must it have been amusing!
  19. Re. the future list of "intended" (perhaps alleged would be more appropriate) releases on page 2 of each magazine I wouldn't expect Amercom to have the gumption to alter this until after issue 19 had been released if indeed the models do go beyond issue 20.............................
  20. I like this very much indeed. Is this a "native" Lima offering ('scuse my ignorance!) or a conversion from a h/code box fitted example - very good if it's the latter. I have the Lima D5679 on a new Hornby R/road chassis - the handrails keep disappearing from mine. Although i do make them from stationery staples! Perhaps I should start using some glue on 'em. For less dramatic weathering effects I use black carbon paper rubbed on - it's excellent on bodysides and roofs - have loads of unused sheets, if you'd like some f.o.c. please let me know. regards malcolm
  21. I shall be selling my 45XX a soon as I get it - GWR not my scene and I don't like to mess my local post office about in cancelling that one. so if any one is interested. ......Will just be wanting basic price + plus RM 2nd class medium parcel rate. Still haven't sold my "Standard 4MT" yet either....hint hint!
  22. Evening DS! Many thanks for your very comprehensive reply - you certainly know your Hornby models I have to say. I'm in two minds now - going to a toy/train fair next month so I will be looking out for both a D49 and "Edward" and see what's available. Thanks once again. Regards malcolm PS What are the song lyrics from at the bottom of your moniker - been wracking my brains but can't solve it.!
  23. Looking again at the illustration in the catalogue Stepney does appear to be the ex-Dapol terrier chassis. Just noticed R9064 "D261" using the class 37 chassis and body. Presumably the chassis has a decent motor and drive, and thus provide a relatively cheap replacement (or source of spares)? apologies for catching the bold font key too! Is it too early to suggest what might be GBL part 17 - at the risk of being shot down by the Special Weapons Dalek (amongst others!), we are due for a SR or GWR engine ( although I would like a "proper" diesel - i.e. the Class 45) - I'll dive for cover now!!!
  24. Thanks DS - you've made a very interesting and informative point there - would have never considered anything from Hornby's "Thomas" range as a chassis inside a GBL body frame. I assume the Schools tender has the D49 tender dimensions (knowing Hornby traits of old!). Just looking my 2006 Hornby catolgue - in the Thomas section (rarely viewed section I stress!), Thomas is obviously the JInty(et al) chassis; is R9069 Stepney this too?; the Edward chassis (the loco itself) would need shortening between the pony wheels and main driving wheels as you allude to. A very useful tip and thanks again.
  25. So Mr Bond.......I have the means to motorise the D11 ..and there's nothing you can do to stop me...!!!!
