  1. 37s were regular into Pwllheli into the 90s, I can recall double headed engineers trains as well but can't remember if that was 2x 37s or 2x 31s (or both). A Weak bridge West of Porthmadog put paid to that circa 94. Long after the period being modelled anyway so probably doesn't help much!
  2. Pont Cegin by R. Alan Jones, on Flickr Infra Red film developed in coffee - you can't get more creative than that! Subject is the Penrhyn Quarry railway/LNWR bridge across the river Cegin.
  3. Ah "why do we model?" A good question I don't know the answer to! I do however spend a fair bit of time in Shropshire so if I can help let me know!
  4. Well that's a ######, and my LNWR brake van out the window. (or readjusted and shipped off to shapeways)
  5. Workbench becoming wagon graveyard!

  7. It's all about Depth of field, get it right and you can make just about anything look like a model! My favourite is a 30s shot of Abbey Foregate station on the Shropshire & Montgomeryshire which was shot evidently on a view camera because it uses the Tilt shift effect quite noticeably but to great effect.
  8. Yet more stunning work, I am in awe as always!
  9. It does indicate that yes, but it's picture clearly shows the whole 21:1 gear set, not just the worm wheel. I'm sure anyone wanting one would call it a worm wheel, and anyone asking for a spur gear would expect a straight cut one. Just doing my bit for the consumer, Eat your heart out Dom!
  10. Excellent, 3-361 ordered, saves waiting for Ultrascale! The description could do with updating too since none of them are spur gears though!
  11. So the picture that goes with 3-358 IS definitely 3-358? 1.5mm worm and 1/8" wheel?
  12. I need a 21:1 worm and gear set - which is the correct association part number? The picture seems to be with the wrong product on the website, unless I'm wrong?

  14. Stunning work, that veg patch is fantastic!
  15. Wansbeck Road - simply wow! Anyone know how it's lit?
  16. Of course your MPD with turntable at your terminus could be regrettably off board due to space restrictions.... Pwllheli's turntable was nearly a mile out of the station!

  18. RTR BR Stock painted in big 4 liveries (even worse when they then get that livery wrong)
  19. This is a great thread, Stephen your advice is excellent and much appreciated! A wheel profile tool will be an early project if I can eventually get my hands on a lathe, Unimat prices seem to have spiralled astronomically this last month! Just wondering though what you would recommend for radius turning. I was considering a scaled down version of this Also what would you recommend as to coolant for steels on a small table top lathe? I won't be turning a lot of steel so if there's a 'one shot' solution that may be used I'd be intrigued to know about it. (Probably the wheel profile tool is the only steel I'll turn!)
  20. I wrote a small piece about it on my blog the other day, with a screenshot of drawing in progress. I'll add more on it when I'm confident it's as good as it can be for my purposes. In short it's got chassis frames from 0.5mm Nickel Silver and the rest is in 0.2mm brass, to be finished off with some whitemetal castings that I'll need to turn masters for first (I figure I may as well cast them since they'll no doubt be of interest to others, and I need at least 3 of the little critters)
  21. Just to keep the thread going, I'm building Blodwell Junction on the Tanat Valley and nantmawr branches of the Cambrian in 2mm Finescale. With a smidge of artistic license, any period from the opening of the TVLR to the major track prune of the 50s can be modelled. (The platform changed a little at some point, in the GWR era the TVLR was relaid inchaired rail throughout and the station nameboard was at some point relocated to the signal box - other than that it stayed pretty much unchanged) I plan to use maybe a little more motive power variety than the realthing, using Cambrian0-6-0s, 0-4-0STs and the like as well a the mainstay 2-4-0Ts.I hope to be able to add a collett goods and an autotrain as well for later era running, and if I get real adventurous perhaps even an Ivatt class 2, though the prospect of all that valve gear scares me. Cambrian stuff is all being scratch built, I hope there's going to be some help from proprietary kis for the GWR stuff!
  22. That'll do nicely, much appreciated. That's the artwork for my Cambrian 2-4-0T finished. (Unless I've missed something of course!)
  23. oops, meant loco although the wagon measurement will also be useful!
  24. Here's a nice simple question - what's the diameter of Association buffer shanks, or rather what size hole do I need in my buffer beam?
