  1. I am just 19 days older than you Johnster, but unlike you I only came into the hobby around ten years ago (never had a train set as a child, though a keen train spotter in the 60s). It seems I timed it just right...!

    Oxford N7

For me any errors will be overlooked if it runs superbly....
  3. 2019?...I used to have that problem...now I use a 'rolling' year...it seems to help...
  4. I wonder if they are going to go with a metal boiler (cf J15)
  5. I hope it will be possible to keep the whole range on the one page, just to make it easier to find things.
  6. I got an M7 as a clearance item a couple of years back and it had a very similar problem. It turned out to be a tiny blob of glue on the back of one of the wheel rims. It took just a couple of seconds to scrape it off.

69012 and 69013 in 1951 according to Longworth. Both at Thornton Junction by 1954.
  8. No....please make it a 2021 in the first place....

  10. Perhaps we are seeing the birth of a new manufacturer, and that the 'Products and Trade area' of the forum will soon feature a new entry ... 'Hattons'...
  11. Is this what you are looking for...? https://www.flickr.com/photos/44544845@N08/8469116450 Edited: sorry, that is 1409 but described as 1424 - anyway, it is a nice picture!
  12. I've tried to like your new site . I've tried to be objective - certainly everything seems to work OK - but the site feels uncomfortable to use The whole thing seems over complicated, with too many filters and the like, and page loading is just slightly slow so that pictures appear fractionally after text. I find that the overall experience is just not that good. Purely subjective I know - I am probably a reactionary dinosaur or something, but it doesn't work for me....and if it doesn't work for me I expect there will be other people who will find the same. 13. ...and the ironic thing is that it is THE perfect engine for so many small GWR branch lines (think everything from Abbotsbury to Wallingford) plus all those small freelance layouts and shunting planks based on the same! I think it would be good if Hattons could sort out the mechanism (even if it did take a bit of redesign) and release a new version somewhere down the line...as someone on here has said, they could sell bucket loads. Come on Hattons, you owe it to modelers - and if you don't do it I can't see that anyone else will any time soon...!

    New Hornby 14xx

I think you could reasonably run 32556 at Medstead (35-077, currently available at a reasonable price from Hattons) since it seems to have spent most of its later career at Eastleigh.
  16. I've just spent a frustrating 15 minutes trying to find something on the new site (actually a DJM 58xx 5802 h1407) - gave up! Not for me.
  17. It does seem odd. I seem to recall that the 14xxs were received in two or three batches. I suppose the poor performers were not all from the same batch?
  18. Yes I've noticed (following my earlier post on white grease on the visible gear wheel and the need to run in and re-lubricate) that the actual gear wheel itself is not exactly true and does wobble side to side slightly with each rotation. Mine is acceptable for my use and runs very well now - but I wonder if there has been a slight failure in QC in this area and the manufacturer has used liberal amounts of grease as a way to compensate?
  19. Pleased to report that all is now well - the loco was initially running slower than my earlier MSC version and had the distinct 'limp' mentioned, but 60 minutes going round and round and (despite all the grease) re-lubrication of all the usual points and it is now running very well indeed. Quite a relief - I don't like sending things back, but would have if it had not improved.
  20. Well mine has arrived from Cornwall this morning, and I'm afraid that straight out of the box it is not a brilliant runner, with a distinct tendency to 'limp' at slower speeds. There seems to be a lot of white grease on the visible gear wheel, so I'll give it an hours running in and see if that sorts it out.
  21. Yes I got a second one (after a bit of support/encouragement on this forum!) and that works fine too...
  22. An unusual thing to say, but may I thank recent posters on this topic for such interesting and careful analysis of the situation. Fascinating stuff...
  23. 1450 sold well, so 1451 in a similar lined late livery (another engine for Hemyock), and then 1401 in Titfield guise, and an all black 14xx without top feed, and.....,and.....oh dear, lets not turn this into a wishlist....
