  1. Just arrived in the post, one USTC tank loco, in USTC colours, in perfect condition, I'll test it tonight on the club 00 track, before trying work out how to modify it to EM gauge.
  2. That wasn't what prevented us using, the grease proofpaper that was stamped Government issue. it was just that it was totally cr.... useless...
  3. Just phoned Kernow with the credit card details, they say the USTC will be on its way within a couple of days... Yippee.
  4. You are entirely correct, so the directors should send those actors on a 30 mile route march.... Sadly with few Directors or Actors having military experience these days it's only going to get worse, . It's not just army scenes they got wrong. I watched a new version of Colditz a couple of months ago they had the British Actors saying they were going to a TRAIN station... it's a RAILWAY STATION!!!
  5. That USTC looks good, it's the one I ordered, so long ago they've just sent me a letter asking me to update them on my current credit card. For which I'm grateful and for the fact they didn't pre charge the card as some companies might. IIRC I'll have to change the number, remove that symbol on the side tanks and then do some weathering to match the photo of the Loco on the station I'm modelling. Now which book was that Photo in.....
  6. Some pictures from last week At Horning Regatta, three pictures are on Black Horse Broad ( the first two days of the regatta), the rest on the River Bure (monday to friday), There aren't to many to choose from, I was supposed to be rescuing people or sheparding terrified tourist in their hire boats along the river bank.
  7. Since my Grandfather came back from Dunkirk on MONAS ISLE IV on May 29th 1940, I have read up and looked at many pictures of the event. Whilst applauding the making of the film, if they do it properly, (are the Americans going to win?) That lot of actors are too clean, too well equipped and not knackered enough. Even the tin hats aren't battered enough, those are smarter than the ones we were issued with for the 1977 firemans strike... Send that lot of Actors on a 30 mile route march with full kit everyday for a week (no showers and limited food), before taking most of it off of them and covering them with mud /sand. The men coming back had been through hell, retreating across europe under fire often walking the whole way. Then sitting on the beach at Dunkirk ( or defending the perimiter) for days being bombed and shelled while waiting for boats.
  8. That is actually an old joke that can be seen in some UK urinals, The Latin for BEE is APIS
  9. You would be very uncomfortable with my old woodwork teacher as he clipped you round the ear, for placing the planes down on their face....
  10. The Saudi Gazette ( Saudi News paper in English you can get it in the UK) has a advice section ( on religious matters). I remember them printing the following: If using a Western Toilet you do not have to kneel in front of it, to use as a urinal (they are advised to kneel when watering the desert). Also that the correct way to make a deposit is to use it is as we do.
  11. Many moons ago when this thread was about "what to do to get lynched at a model railway show" there was something about those without deoderant... We have finally reached the solution...... Send them to Porton Down....
  12. Yep Porton Down is just down the road maybe a couple of miles, My Dad made the mistake of volunteering back in the 1950's so he could be back near home and visit his Girlfriend, My Mum 12 miles away, where we later lived. He has breathing difficulties now, which he attributes to Porton, (ignoring 20 years of smoking).
  13. Also fitted for some reason to many of the buildings at RAF Boscombe Down near Salisbury
  14. A favourite in the middle east as well, but not favourite for me,
  15. You might have done and not known it, this http://www.greatyarmouthmercury.co.uk/news/former_broads_pub_poised_to_become_religious_temple_1_4146956 is just off the Norwich To Gt Yarmouth line.
  16. But their batteries go flat....
  17. My corporate nanny also blocks the lando site, it also blocks attempts to get to sites which include: The word "model" in the Site name. ( Pornography) Any of the red top Newspapers. ( Pornography) World war 1 or World War 2 Sites. ( weapons) Any reference to Knives, swords of blades (weapons) though it doesn't understand the Gaelic because I can access Sgian Dubh information). It sometimes blocks individual threads on this site because of something in the header.
  18. 30th January 1649. Charles the First, what happens when a leader hasn't got the support of his people he thought, referendums were a bit more violent back then!!!
  19. Go back to one set of my Gt Gt Grandparents and that's exactly how many Surviving children there were!!! (26 total)
  20. Austin Maxi there are approximately 93 still on the road and another 75 on SORN. one of the first Hatchbacks, although there were proposals for a Mini hatch back some years before...
  21. Whilst your model railway is large by many peoples standards, your photographs make it seem much bigger!!!
  22. Time to call the train replacement service
  23. Years ago, 1976? On My intake into the RAF was A guy from North Wales, who's first language was definitely Cymraeg ( Welsh is an English/ Anglo-Saxon word meaning foreigner) every order he received he had to stop and translate in his head to Cymraeg and then carry it out which meant while marching in the early days of training he was like Corporal Jones (now thats an appropriate name) and was a few seconds behind everyone else. I certainly have had the language switch in the Outer Hebrides and Highlands from English to Gàidhlig and in my school days, it was a prelude to being attacked because I had an English Accent ( proper west country it was). My Younger brother who Schooled in the Hebrides ( my secondary school was in Inverness), can catch a few out because he is fluent in the Gàidhlig and several other languages. Of course many in Wales and particularly South Wales are not genetically Welsh at all ( See here https://wellcome.ac.uk/press-release/who-do-you-think-you-really-are-first-fine-scale-genetic-map-british-isles ), But of English decent with incommers from Edward the first on Pembrokeshire was known as England beyond Wales a one point. and then when the mines and Steel works opened many came from England to the new jobs. Even the Leader of Plaid Cymru has the surname Wood which is of English or Scottish origin.
  24. I've just been sorting ,500 model railway wagon and van kits, the wagon has just been announced by Bachmann, I should have pre announced that one day I'll finish getting these kits together.
  25. The 505 finished 41st in 12:32:56 or 12:10:20 after its handicap of 3% off of finishing time. Luckily the Norfolk Broads speed limits of 4 to 6 mph do not apply to sailing boats The fastest boats were the Thames A Raters with 27% added their finishing time. The slowest boats had a handicap of 25% off of their finishing time. Well that's enough of why I live in the UK until regatta week 30th July to 5th August.
