As others have said, there is a never a good time for this news but there is something particularly bad about getting it at this time of year. Best wishes that you'll find something else quickly, sounds like you've had time to plan ahead at least.

  2. I see two un-extraditable Russians have been charged with the Salisbury nerve attack. At times like this I wonder: whatever happened to Adolf Eichmann....?

  3. I wish more manufactures adopted the approach of ESU in their locos with AC/DC compatibility

As Patrick says, it makes perfect sense in Germany and a number of other markets where three rail AC is still popular, but in the UK it'd be answering a question that nobody has asked and just add cost for no real benefit to the overwhelming (and I mean overwhelming) number of users.

  4. I'm sure RMweb is moving away from modelling that makes your hands dirty.

I would hope so, I didn't make the effort to end up with a string of letters after my name just to do work and get my hands dirty. That's what the paid help is for.

One of the enjoyable things about watching England is the unpredictability, one game they're woeful then they'll be brilliant in the next. Much more interesting than just seeing a victory procession every game as per some teams in their prime.

I must admit that when I go to China I ask myself the question of which is the less developed part of the world nowadays. They have some remarkable major infrastructure.

It's the new rule book, they've streamlined it and reduced it to the essentials.

Things got that bad that some lunatic announced one of the main reasons he goes to exhibitions is to start fights with people wearing back packs, belittle exhibitors, berate traders and electrocute people with a 1000V megger tester. And carries a petrol driven chainsaw in case things get nasty at exhibitions. What sort of person posts on this board?! Oh hang on, that was me.

  11. My name is Maximus Decimus Meridius, commander of the Armies of the North, General of the Felix Legions, loyal servant to the true emperor, Marcus Aurelius. Father to a murdered son, husband to a murdered wife. And I will have my trains, in this life or the next.

  12. Bags...packed. Handover...complete. Flights...confirmed and checked in, with boarding passes printed. Taxi... booked for in a couple of hours' time. It's been a busy 74 days on board. Now looking forward to my first beer when I get to Pisa airport. Bring it on!

  13. open day done! Now decision time Physics or History degree?

    1. jjb1970

      jjb1970

If you like both subjects then physics will have better career potential basically because it requires a high degree of mathematical understanding. And a good grasp of maths opens up many doors regardless of whether you want to work in physics or not. However, if you're passionate about history and not hot on physics it might be better to do history.

People in public office (including councillors) set a tone and when they say things like that it gives a green light to others that such comments are considered to be acceptable. As such those in office should know better and refrain from such idiocy, even if it was meant in jest (and I'm not altogether sure I'd give him the benefit of that doubt).

You'd be surprised at the way some stuff you think you'll never use again after your last exam can become essential at work.
