1. Nice pic's Mark, many thanks for posting and what I missed on the 2nd day too!

The mallet I believe is the one that was built by Gordon Dando. I admired this loco when i was a little nipper growing up at the club. Sadly Gordon died recently and his loco's and workshop were offered to club members, good to see the mallet hasn't gone too far! :-)

Have a great time ooop north!! Please pass on my apologies to everyone (especially the tea ladies) as i'm gonna have to keep my head buried in the books this time! Exams next week so i'll be let out again for RailEx!

All the best with your studies too, unless that is all over and done with now, in which case enjoy your newly regained freedom!!! :-D

    Cheers for now!

  2. Hi Missy,

Looking good, I do like the Irish stuff!

With regards to the discussion of scale, don't forget that the LLSR had a much larger loading gauge and was running on 3ft track, as appose to the FR running on 1ft 11 1/2 with a fairly restrictive loading gauge. IMHO the difference between the 3 is as I would expect. A good comparison for Prince would be any photo's of it it 'The Engine House' at Highly where it was posed alongside some of the bigger stuff.

    Keep up the good work!

  3. I hope after getting mixed up in all those numbers John you haven't forgot to cut those ribs off the roof!! :-p

After talking to Tony on Tuesday night and as part of an Easter project, I've decided to embark on the de-ribbing process, 2 roof's done so far and i've found it surprisingly satisfying! Only the 3 coaches that i'm working on at the moment, but I did dig out the box of coaches earlier today to scare myself with the potential workload!!

    Keep up the good work!

  4. Missy,

Thank you for the chance to come and have a play, it was a pleasure to be part of the team for Highclere's first official show and I'm pleased that performance more than lived up to expectation!

Some of the mineral wagons seemed to be lacking couplings - or were they just so ultra-fine that they defeated my poor eyesight?

I think this was just Pixie's evil plan to make operation that much more difficult! I must admit the challenge of replicating a 40 wagon goods train, top and tailed to hide the fact that most of the wagons had no couplings was strangely enjoyable! Apologies for those watching for the use of the hand of god, this was not testament to the build quality of Highclere, more to the fact that propelling 20-30 wagons of varying weights on finescale flanges was never going to be a good combination!

Hmmm, 'Full English' now that sounds like a plan!!

Enjoy the the relief Missy of passing this major milestone and I look forward to seeing efforts return to the scenic and motive power departments!

  5. You've got a cracking eye Tim for catching realism, something which has always impressed me with your modelling! This really looks like it could have been a real location, something which is much harder with a fictional layout as oppose to modelling a real location IMHO. Really looking forward to seeing Callow lane come to life once you start adding all the weeds and folliage! Just missing the Class 2 mogul to really capture the atmosphere of the Nailsworth branch! ;-)

  6. Yes it does appear that i'm technologically challenged once again! Unfortunately i'm at the mercy of work IT at the moment until (fingers crossed) midnight tonight when my new broadband goes live!

Yes there maybe a slight hint of CK's modelling rational but only as far as the HR 4.4.0, all the other's are perfectly justifyable with photograpic proof to hand! I didn't think about the Jones good's Mark but if you're offering to provide said loco i'm sure Robin would be more than happy to let it grace the front of a train of Mk1's on a rail charter.

Yes with the BR paintshop coming nicely on stream, it is certainly proving to be very profficient! It's a bit like a 1950's version of the modern backstreet car mechanic. Quite happy to take on projects, repaint, renumber, hide all sign's of previous origin and then deny even having said loco in the first place! I'm sure Inverness, Perth, St Rollox's etc wont miss the passing of a few Black 5's, all for a good cause of course!

Now am I likely to suffer form repeating HTML flu????

  7.
That looks spot on Morgan! Looking forward to seeing your result's on Horwich's finest!

With regards to Barrow Road don't forget the occaisional visit's of K1's and K3's.................................even Scottish Black 5's made it down Mark! I'm still looking for the photographic proof of the HR 4.4.0's visit, during it's stop at BR before going on to be trialled on the Well's branch of the S&D!

  8. Looking good Pugs! Must be time for a class photo so we can compare the differences! :D

Just a couple of points, from the photo there's almost a thin gap between the streaking on the walkway stantions and the tank body, mainly the outer 2 as the middle one looks to hid it. I do like the effect of the steaking though, very effective!

The other point was in regards to the walkways, would there have been any loss of paint/ware on the checker plate? Representable through drybrushing/highlights? I appreciate that you have to be careful not to overdo this!

Very interesting to compare this to Adam's approach! So how many more to do? :D

  9. David,

A massive improvement and definitely the right thing to do! It would have always bugged you if you hadn't, i'm slowly finding that there's quite a lot you end up remaking but the results are far more rewarding!

Good luck with the rest of the build!

Paul

  10. Very impressive Robin! I do like the track plan and you've done extremely well to pick out the colours on the block instruments so clearly! The photo's really do trick you into believing this detail is alot bigger than it is in reality!

Looks like you may have just caught the 2nd bracket from the left on the instrument shelf, i'm sure you'll make sure its tweaked back into position once its finally installed in the box! ;)

There can't be many 4mm signal boxes out there that can match Lawrence Hill for accuracy!

    Best Wishes

    Paul

  11. Thanks Pix, that answer's that one then! I had a feeling that the use of limewash must have ended as I couldn't remember any white stained BR vans!

Julia, I think the amount of staining is fine as it is but wouldn't go any further! I was possibly suggesting going over the existing staining with a lime colour, however thanks to Pix this is unlikely to have been the case anyway!

That last pic looks the best on the lot IMHO, nice and subtle, so you must have got the setting perfected by then! B)

    Best Wishes

    Paul
