  1. Hi Cav What an amazing thread, I am in awe of the things you can achieve in 2mm. Re your couplings. I am contemplating a rake of Chivers OTAs. Do you think your wagon couplings would work? The OTAs have a longer wheelbase than the wagons you've designed them for, and I also have 1st radius curves in the hidden sidings on my layout. Cheers David

  3. I've been looking forward for this one to reappear. This is one of the layouts which inspired mine. (for inspired read I nicked the main idea) Have followed this topic, and will enjoy developments. David

To me, it looks like a cross between the Warship Class 42, and the Class 67 skips, so it's a Warkip

  5. Is there a support group for people addicted to buying trains? I swore no more purchases this month, but I couldn't resist a bargain!

Looking forward to getting started, been thinking about it for ages. I had settled on the expo set, but managed to get an Iwata Neo and tank compressor for the same price online.

  10. I have a revolutionary idea. If we want to get kids interested in model railways, stop building exhibition layouts 4'6" from the ground!

I have to agree. When I took my lads we would go and find a chair or something for them to stand on. It was very difficult to keep picking them up as I have a bad back. Lower level layouts could be run with the operators sitting down, or higher level with a bench in front.

Needless to say none of my sons are into model railways, those that got into modelling went with Warhammer or military modelling. Which reminds me. I have a campaign to finish so I can conquer my youngest so...

My layout is low enough for wheelchair users and children to see hopefully; it's up to my hip and I'm only about 5 foot-5foot 1

The founder of Kadee showed up last year and I was sad that he couldn't see from his wheel chair.

I want to build a ramp!

  14. Great thread, I have to say that finding second hand bargains and doing them up in the same way as your wagons has become a favourite aspect of modelling for me. Buying a dated, but sound wagon for £2-£5 at a second-hand stall and making something decent with a bit if paint and some spare parts is immensely satisfying. I have managed to put together my entire stable for my Plymouth area layout (inc Bachmann N, Hornby M7, Bachmann Ivatt 2-6-2, Bachmann Warship, Hornby 08, Hornby 14xx....) via e-bay and 2nd hand, and I can proudly say I've spent no more than £50 for any loco, all pretty much brand new and boxed with detail packs etc. It certainly makes me happier about re-painting, weathering and renumbering an engine if I've not spent £100+ on it! Although this is an extreme example it shows what can be achieved with a bit of ingenuity. Great job!
