  1. It seems to me that there are two issues here, One is DJM's long term 'corporate identity' with all the complicated marketing strategies  and other buzz words that consultants like to use. The other is the short term need to get the reorders for the APT project done in a way that gives the buyers security that thing are not getting lost in IT muddles and more importantly provides DJM with the resources to pay the next set of bills. I work in IT but am a specialist in other areas than Ecommerce. But I wonder whether as a stop gap measure that STILL gives people the security they need to make them re -invest. What about an E-bay shop? I have no idea about how easy it is to set one up but there are thousands of them. Dave can sell his models via them. Either that or use a 'real' crowd funding site. I know that they cost money, but right now the most important thing is to give people confidence  in the financial process as well as the undoubted abillity to mange the production process.[/size]

An eBay shop brings us back to PayPal where Dave's woes with ecommerce began

  2. I think what Dave needs right now is a way to get a website up and running, he sounds like he has limited options with regards the person who did the work but legal action is the most likely probable cause of action to recover the money he paid (if the person has the assets to pay him).

Dave's immediate need to me is a working e-commerce site so he can restart his collection of APT and King deposits/instalments without which both schemes will fail.

Does anyone know of a company they can recommend to him to build him a site?  Someone with a track record you're aware of would be beneficial as Dave clearly cannot afford a repeat of what has just happened.

  3. Just to confirm, now that payment has been taken, Rails did stick to the original preorder price =) looking forward to adding dining facilities to my South Coast expresses

Mine isn't showing as in stock yet, had a look at one today in Arcadia but my Rails on is still in the process of being unpacked.  When I saw the BR ones as being in stock I did ring them up to confirm and the orders for the SR ones haven't been processed yet (phew).

  4. not a problem Dave,

I had faith in your producing and delivering my units, your customer service has always been top par and always communicated the status of the projects effectively, and your a great chap to talk too.

The people on her who like doing personal attacks are unlikely to have pre-ordered anyways, I look forward to seeing the cad.

Actually those that were raising the points had ordered and are supporters of the project.

Edit: I will say I am not part of this scheme but all I have done is support those who are who had concerns they wanted Dave to urgently addres.

  5. You might want to think about making that crossover on the left side of the layout the other way round, so that it's a trailing crossover rather than a facing one.

Strictly speaking, it wouldn't be very likely to have a double-slip where you've got one; it would be more likely to be a single-slip, but there could be an argument for

keeping it in view of the extra play-ability. I like the sinuous curve through the station, should look good with those 5-coach trains snaking through.

It might be worth getting hold of this book:

It's got loads of interesting SR track formations in it, and is a good read besides. These books (there are ones for GWR, S&D etc) are really useful if you're

pondering how to lay out a goods yard, even if it isn't always obvious how the real things were operated.

I never knew that book existed Barry, this thread has cost me £30 as i ended up buying a copy last night and then added a Padstow branch book as well.

  6. It isn't uncommon for people to be REQUIRED, to wear Hi-viz for their day jobs. It isn't exclusively an outfit for railways.

Most truck drivers here in Oz, have to wear them at all times on duty. Or else sites won't let you past the gate, until you're wearing one. I have one in my work vehicle, just in case, because I don't want to be turned away for such an inexpensive item. Their site rules apply, whether or not any visitors, think they're w***ers.

This guy could be such a person & its hardly practical to take it off. As long as he isn't pretending to be railway staff/contractor or go beyond the platform, then I see nothing wrong.

You are all right of course, really it is the intent of the person not what they are wearing - a chap on the platform dressed as the Fat Controller (insert other characters as desired) is just another person unless he attempts to interfere with the running of the trains, likewise a hi-viz.

  7. Is it visibility or visability, the latter gets a spellchecker underline on my browser and I feel the former is the correct spelling as well.

The problem I see with hi-viz jackets is that like the guard/prisoner experiment in the 1960s the wearer of the hi-viz can begin to feel empowered way above what they actually represent, but that is whole other topic and this chap is just wearing said hi-viz and as suggested he might have actually arrived on a bike but he shouldnt really be wearing it I don't feel in an environment where other's wear them for actual personal safety.

  8. You shouldn't be so surprised. You are not alone. There are indeed a small but significant number on this forum who have "outed" ourselves and declared in its favour.....especially when you read of the agonies seemingly suffered by those who attempt a working relationship with Hornby 's latest offerings.Nobody says it's without fault.Except it's the best we have by a country mile in rtr.

I had to remove it's DCC chip and I was worrying about going into the body when I remembered - this is a DJM model, the smokebox door comes off and you just slide out the plug - easy.

It's currently simmering in the bay platform on with a couple of mint B-set coaches I picked up the same week that need converting to Kadees - it might be a 14xx but I don't feel an immediate need to tie it to an Autocoach.

  9. This feels like a topic for a certain 'Real' photography group - we shouldn't start a name & shame thread.

But I agree there is a type of person who puts on a hi-viz to make themselves look official and really they should be challenged by station staff or BTP if they are on the station.
