  1. An absolute pleasure meeting the chaps behind the model on Saturday, the 'OO' APT-E is just astounding in the flesh, and the sound chip isn't half bad either Funny sound for a Western to make, but rule one applies haha. I was the chap (kid?) in the 5972 shirt and could have stayed there listening about the APT development program all day Cheers, 60800

Check the back to backs and make sure the pony wheels are free of dirt. My No.9's pony truck derails on some points if the wheels have picked up a sufficient amount of dirt, and need cleaning about once a month. Hope this helps, 60800
  3. Hi Dave, not much I can say really apart from the fact that if it was to be done purely in full sets (which I can assure you it won't!) we'd have to shift at least 1000 to clear the tooling and production costs + commission from kickstarter if that is the chosen crowd funding source. This hasn't been discussed with Dave Jones yet, but I'd plan on using a strategy with different formations on offer + coach packs + special 'one off' liveries if the necessary rights can be obtained. The rights to produce certain liveries would of course push the price up of items. Cheers, 60800
  4. Good evening all, I've recently been conversing with Dave Jones of DJ Models with regards to a crowd funded 'OO' class 91, Mk.4 stock and DVT. He has outlined that if a crowd funding project was set up, he would happily design, produce and supply us with a new-tool class 91, Mk.4 stock and DVT if the funding target is reached. If there is sufficient interest in reply to this comment to commit to a DJ Models class 91 thread in Dave's section on this forum, then I will ask him if he will oblige and we shall see how it goes from there Cheers, 60800
  5. More than anything, I'd just like stock to be available. Having an awful time trying to get hold of the Flying Scotsman set with 91101...
  6. Just seen the photo of your Calbourne posted by KMRC on facebook, but I see it hasn't made it on to here yet. I'm not a Southern Region modeller, but b####y hell Dave, she looks gorgeous Cheers, 60800
  7. Hi Ade, I just used a regular craft knife
  8. Hi Ade - just completely remove the old nameplates and cut a notch in the first bolier band. This is my 4489 when that was being done;

No affiliation apart from the fact I've just bought one, but Monk Bar model shop in York have just shy of a dozen 62024's. Mine's gone away for some weird event called a birthday, but from the test running at the shop, I observed it ran smoothly in both directions, with no hint of slop in the valve gear whatsoever. Detailing (especially inside the cab) is exquisite, love the touch of an etched regulator which really does stand out. The only thing the model cries for is a bit of paint on the tyres and an etched number plate. In terms of model quality, a superb return to form from Hornby and a massive improvement over the 'Star'. My only gripe is that I wish the thing hadn't arrived slap bang before Christmas when you're pretty much skint from buying presents.

So when they proudly state on Facebook that all retailer orders have been fulfilled, they are in fact lying on two accounts. Firstly, evidently R3243 is short on delivery, secondly, the other R numbers are nowhere to be seen. Stellar performance yet again from the Hornby PR department.

Does anyone have any idea as to when 62015 (R3242) will arrive? Or has it already done so and i'm just waiting for my pre-order to arrive?
  12. Didn't get time to go to Warley as I was at the comic-con all weekend (dressed as dr who no.7). We're not ALL bad.... Apart from the bloke dressed as the little mermaid.... He didn't have the figure for it, I'll leave it at that. Looking at the photos, I'm seriously tempted by this Crosti now. Is there a correct etched deflector available for 023? If not, I may end up going for the other example

So nothing so far on running and aesthetic qualities from those who have received their models, just complaints from those who haven't. I'll sit here and wait patiently for my main range version.
  14. As long as it's either A. LNER or B. 25KV overhead or C. LNER 600-630 V DC overhead and will be available for pre-order and not immediate purchase, I'll be very happy
  15. Yep, included them purely as a case of what's available for the 'area'. Not WCML locos themsleves, but contributory to traffic
  16. I recall there was a similar situation with Grand Central when the Dapol HST (specifically the Mk.3's) was being produced. I can't expect to see the Bachmann 90 emerge for at least a year, so it could be a year and a half / two years before we see private sector passenger liveries. It's come to the point again of trying to model the WCML. We have the 85, we have a dodgy Heljan EM1 and EM2, we have the pendo, voyager and Thunderbird 57's. WCRC stock is available if your willing to respray 47's and rebrand Mk1's, so in all honesty, with the 90 coming along, we're only a decent 86 and 87 away from being able to justify the WCRC with knitting. Just need the knitting and a concentration on era!
  17. I'm very happy with the chosen loco in this announcement, but extremely disappointed with the third livery choice, in that the freightliner powerhaul livery has being chosen over that in the original post's photo. Looks like I'll have to wait a while for Virgin, FGW, the 'older' Freightliner livery and (hedging my bets here) the standalone GNER example. They will likely be getting one intercity class 90 out of me and possibly an RFD one, but as far as I'm concerned, the wrong freightliner livery has been chosen, with passenger private sector dissapointingly being abandoned for initial release
  18. With Locomotion having a good relationship with Hornby too, do you think you may be able to commission them to produce E22 'Mallard', No.7 Sir Nigel Gresley (both post war LNER / very early BR liveries) or an apple green A4? If you went the same way of ordering as with the last (current) batch of DP1, then there is a possibility of it happening (just don't let it clash with the Rapido APT-E )
  19. This is my A4 fleet as it stands, although it is not presently up to full strength, with Mallard requiring a new decoder
  20. Simon, do you have any spare smokebox hatch etches? I could do with a pair for my Bittern to round her off. Nice work on No.8 - I'm retaining as many of the original GBL fittings as I can, including the buffers and handrails which will be heavily modified. Are you using Bachmann chassis for both? There's a pronounced 'step' between the two cods mouth doors. I'm not entirely sure if all my sanding and re-scribing of that area was worth it now just to remove the step.
  21. Two of my A4's are the beginnings of GBL bashes. One is to be 4483 'Kingfisher' in apple green with full black smokebox on the LHS, and parabolic curve on he RHS. I may be looking to contract out the numbering and lining, if not the entire paintjob. I'd be grateful if someone could point me in the right direction for this. The latter of the two is to be 60008 as preserved. The six pure Hornby examples are; 2509 in early 1938 condition (Silver Jubilee 75th edition) 4464 in 2012 condition - lacking the oversize hatches and smokebox hatches (Converted 4483 Kingfisher) 4468 in 1988 condition on the LHS and 2013 condition on the RHS (Regular edition) 4489 in 2013 condition (2013 GG) 60007 in 2012 condition - remotored and still requiring a few pre-delivery cosmetic fixes (Converted 60024 Kingfisher) 60009 in 2004 condition - Loco fully detailed, requires tender swap to 1928 pattern corridor tender, but i'm not particularly bothered (Commonwealth collection edition with 1935 pattern streamlined corridor tender) Further plans include 60017 in BTP film condition, 60026 'Miles Beevor' in end of steam condition and No.34 'Peregrine' in post war, pre 1948 condition. That should be me done with A4's by then, which will allow me to move on to B1's. Presently looking at 61002, 61005, 61034, 61264, 61244 and 61306 (all Hornby early BR lined black bar 61306 which will be Bachmann late BR lined black)
  22. Six, soon to be eight. I do know of at least three people who do / did own a Hornby model of every A4, one being Mr Allatt, and another having a good chunk of the A3 and Peppercorn A1 fleets too (all late BR of course).
  23. I'll have the 'Is he ever going to stop' version on CD, but on the condition that the Pendolino and Super voyager aren't mentioned. I'd like it as a serious inclusion in a little pocket in the commemorative book. For consideration Kit and Jason? EDIT: I fail to understand the complaints about the video - it contains a lot of very useful information without having to push a fee on us for using RMweb.
  24. A serious question or two from me regarding DCC functions. It's already noted that a few of us would be interested in the trailer car lights being DCC controlled. I'd also like this as due to the size of the thing, it is likely to live on my railway, hence I'd want the lights to be able to be switched off, either through DCC functions or via a hidden switch ala the Bachmann 85. I'm asking if this would be a feasible addition for consideration within the production budget. My second is will the decoder have pre-set or allowable deceleration settings to replicate the braking forces of the Hydro kinetic brakes? My next question regards the tilt system, will it be a simple, single link system akin to the old Hornby APT-P, or will it be a (correct me if i'm wrong here) swing link system dynamically faithful to the original system? Finally, I would like to know if the train is to be modelled exactly as preserved, or will allowances be made to model it exactly as it was towards the end of the testing programme? (The double wipers on TC1 being an exmaple of this). What Jason has done in selecting the APT-E as a foray into British 'OO' is pure genius. It's set the company up to make a name for itself with prestigious BR trains from the dawn of high speed through to the mid 90's, meaning that the Prototype HST set and APT-P become instantly feasible, with the class 91 not too far behind - it just simply doesn't have the 'wow' factor (although it probably would with Rapido's method of marketing). Although all three are significantly longer rakes, the value for money has already hit, with the Rapido APT-E being (car for car) half as much as a comparable four car Hornby HST set at today's prices. Essentially, we could be looking at a full prototype HST set for around the £550, which, given the standard of Rapido's models, is what I would have expected for the APT-E, and that would not have pushed consideration to put me off. I won't plumb the depths of OHLE in 'OO', but the APT-P would be a show stopper, and may finally put the Hornby version with it's incorrect cab profiles to bed.
  25. On the gauging front with this model, my railway was built with 2nd radius and gauged to cope with the extremities of a Hornby Pendolino (which has subsequently never run on the layout as the single powered, non-weighted bogie makes it useless - I share Kit's view on the Pendolino anyway) and to cope with the weight of a Bachmann Deltic. My APT-P manages fine, so unless we're looking at a similar rate of gauge, some buildings ( and sidings ) are going to have to be moved. Or I could always just build another layout..... EDIT: This would include moving a bridge
