  1. Few more from the 80's Firstly No 60 suspect ex Austerity with Lambton type cab in the early days at Strathspey Railway Next we can definitely date as its Maude on the Santa Specials round Edinburgh Suburban. Don't recommend hanging out windows and taking photos. I did have timings for the run and some images from the day before as as chased between photographic spots, but they are currently AWOL Can never have too much of a Deltic! Down final run at Craigentinny and up final run leaving Waverley
  2. Just to show what the silver metal clad wagons should look like in real terms Resin 7mm model from Invertrain
  3. Last offering for tonight. Early days at Strathspey Railway; GNSR Lav Compo now moved and currently at Embsay GNSR 6w full brake (not best image, pre arson attack that destroyed her) next to GNSR wagon and then NBR 1748 looking a sight better than the latest images on NBR Study Group website I think D4 before moving to ?? and 46464 next to similar GNSR wagon (rather fancied having a go at full size restoration at one of these external frame wagons, especially as built a few 7mm versions in my time and think 4 at Strathspey) 5025 (currently under restoration as early Black 5) and LNER 1211 Sleeper 1st prior to move to Bo'Ness Finally 828 after escape from Glasgow Museum of Transport and pre-restoration.
  4. few more "happy snappies" to add to the mix. Firstly the open day at Perth was interesting but a short walk found TTO 23981 and RB 24080 Both currently in Loughborough. Secondly we have a rail tour to Aviemore with 60009 Union of South Africa (even saw her at Crail as a child) Lastly one of the Open Days at Haymarket
  5. A few more loose images from the box. We have a few images taken pre closure of the Forfar to Stanley Junction. One is certainly taken at Coupar Angus and feel the others are Forfar? Next its Kyle of Lochalsh I seem to remember an ex SR Brake van was in the sidings and that was more interesting? Cant find the image though. Last one ,I think, is one of the Stirling signal boxes but it has nothing on the back to help. If so its circa 1985 when I should have been doing Geriatrics attachment rather than bunking off to the station!
  6. even in 80's pre-grouping stuff could be found. ex CR Distant at Coupar Angus and ex HR at Inverness Amazing whats turned up in a box of loose images!
  7. Finally found the image to go with my earlier comment 3 wagons made it to Strathspey
  8. Since I was at Edinburgh University 1980 to 1986 allegedly studying medicine there may be a few images lurking about? The selection here includes 37 crossing at Ardlui (feeling was an SRPS tour to Mallaig), 246 Morayshire on Santa Trips round Suburban in Edinburgh? and Green Arrow and Evening Star double heading a rail tour at Saughton Junction (Jenners Depository behind photographer) Then 2 signal boxes that have lost since gone. Kingsknowe and Kirknewton
  9. I have to admit to being remiss. Lots of things happening; daughters graduation, trees to fell in the garden and much more. There have been bits done on my behalf and we are now down to a few areas and 2 of the 4 doors. As a treat to myself I painted some of it white with an interesting mix of primers. Clearly not a gold medal restoration but it will pass muster and do as asked which is act as a "barrier" between the Barclay 0-4-0 and the coach set. And yes amazing what a large dollop of filler can do
  10. Look in the Gallery section Aberdeen docks of GNSR Website. As I recall some of the coal wagons ended up at Strathspey but were "too shot" so were burnt, but I managed one image pre demise.
  11. Quite a number of images are on Railbrit website. 1 image each in Waverley A Sivitar and Rail Centres Edinburgh A J Mullay These is a page about them in the book The Edinburgh Suburban and South Side Junction Railway A A Maclean Oakwood OL139 Appears existed in 4 types with either steel or wooden under frames The later varieties having 10 1/2 or 11 plank sides. One curiosity that has never been explained is a picture (printed NB Study Group Journal 85 ) of a Leith General Warehousing wagon at Granton (definitely not its usual haunt) On the livery issue I always thought lettering white shaded black but the one in SRPS Museum is white shaded red lettering
  12. Been very remiss with this project of late. Lots of other jobs have needed doing and the stress of selling land doesnt help either. Firstly Sue wanted a loads of decking laying, with posh flush solar lights and a twee gazebo to be erected as well. Secondly I'd got a 3 day pass to Download and certainly got slightly wet. Rammstein excellent as ever and best laugh/fun must go to Lawnmower Death duetting with Kim Wilde. This while the usual on-stage entertainment of fighting clowns etc continued! If I had the odd 5 minutes tended to do some 7mm stuff. After that had to repair the footseps on the brake van now that she has returned to the shed. Beacause she is so light on her springs when hauled out the bottom of the roller axles broke the wooden risers. Fortunatelly the treads survived otherwise it would have been a major job. Still the fault is partly/mostly mine as looking back some brakevans have gaps pre-installed in the running boards. Also got fed up removing paint of the fish van so put some back on in areas of steel that have been stripped.
  13. If I remember correctly (bit North of my real interest) a whole of a NBRSG Journal was dedicated to the line. From further recollection independant, then CR then NBR. Buildings in early times clearly showed the dual ownership
  14. Certainly try the North British Railway Study Group. As a suggestion MacMerry, Lauder or Gifford instantly come to mind. Alternatively with "modellers licence" Lochty is another possibility as technically it was never graced with a passenger service? All covered in Oakwood publications. Downside is you'll need a D51?
  15. Slowly removing layers of paint. The mess is truely staggering. Took a short break (dusted myself down) to remake the door inserted when working on the Immingham Breakdown Train. The origional which is also on the bench is totally shot. As you can see a) the shed is currently a bit of a tip and B) my helper wasn't much use either. Managed a day away in York and even more amazingly my wife joined me to see Flying Scotsman though the matchsticks came out when I started behaving like a child in sweetie shop! After a while had to be escorted from the premises and taken off to Betty's
  16. Looking through my photos box and came across this couple. Never seemed that common at Brocklesby area, 56. 108 in Railfreight 4/9/89 and 56.094 in Coal Sector on 17/11/89
  17. Was looking through my box of photos and found this image. Taken outside Fishing Heritage Centre Grimsby 1999 Off this week so the plan is to get a "shed load' done with a large update after Easter
  18. Here's one or two I just wish I was talented enough to do. I was introduced to this chap by a Drug Rep who came to my GP surgery. He usually painted cars and sci-fi moonscapes but did do the odd railway image. W1 at Waverley on the Flying Scotsman service is a copy of a commercial post card and currently hangs in my room at my surgery.
  19. The progress is painfully slow and generally very unpleasant with dreadful amounts of dust and debris. There is some aluminium coming to view though. Door hatch currently removed for refurbishment, another battle in it self.
  20. Continued slow progress on the "Bluespot" I'm guessing the first layer is masonry paint as it really is horrific to get off. The current plan that seems most effective is: vigorous grinding, liberal application of paint stripper, leave 1 week and repeat ++. I did get otherwise distracted on Saturday and had most of a door to repair. I'd already done some running repairs last year but this time someone really did a job on it. Accomplished out side in what can best be described as a bit inclement.
  21. Not unknown in the Grimsby area either. With another colour variant and one a long way from home. 2 images at Brocklesby Station and one Melton Ross circa late 1989 or early 1990
  22. Thanks for the +ve comment Indomitable026 You helped me too, as I never fully understood the colour they arrived at LWR in. 1 down, 2 to go along with the other 31 wagons at LWR! Enough wood for almost all of the other 2 is in the restored one, some how the society got someone to provide, shape and plane enough planks for free! Steel work still in situ and Louth North Box still standing and is inhabited? ABM now gone (I thought it was stuffed full with asbestos) and a swish new Aldi in its place. Means you do get better views of Louth station though. Suggest "google" Daves Rail Pictures of Lincolnshire too as the wagons move from Louth North area to Ludborough is well covered.
  23. Continued slow progress on what is a pretty vile job. While its nice the breeze blows the stuff away (still seems to get into every nook and crannie of the relevant safety gear) it became less pleasant when the drizzle started and a fine wet paste of paint fragments appeared. Supposed to be ready for Easter Gala 2016 but at this rate lucky if it makes Easter 2017!
  24. Slow progress, lamp iron now much more secure and her real identity has been revealed E87872 The aim will be return to traffic at Easter Gala
  25. Couple of extra images relevant to an earlier post but I'd struggled to find. Melton Cement works, I suspect taken around 6/89 and even more surprisingly after wandering around photographing I was invited up for a short footplate ride.
