  1. Frustratingly busy and was even recently spotted at the Worksop 1/2 marathon (I said was 100% retired but my daughter wanted me to train with her) 2h 8m for me with a stop to check on a "downed" runner and 2h 29m for my daughter. Overall a lovely scenic, but lumpy, route round Clumber Park. Anyway back to the real world. Sign writers have been busy The SR Brake van veranda is a bit more presentable now. Should have been easy job, lift off top rail and slide T+G in, but no the dowels were swollen and had to be drilled out and top rail put up a stubborn resistance even after that due to swelling of the wood in the mortise joints.
  2. IRS book on Scotland has an English Electric DH 0-6-0 D1119 from 1966 mentioned?
  3. Need to do some digging in my saved articles pile but feel sure there was something printed a few years ago.
  4. Further to earlier post LNER J15 7690 from 1885 was sold to Bairds + Scottish Steel 6/38 and scrapped 12/58 Also seen at Coltnesss Iron Works was ex Barry Railway 49 (GWR 712) acquired circa 3/33 And the odd J69 was to be found at Faslane too
  5. Hope iPhone works. 2 grain wagons on the storage line. 1 in the coach shed mid repaint. Even after all the years with my "baby" I now realise there is a difference between each side! The bit for pinning down the brake lever varies by about 6 inches, either side of a vertical metal spar. The cam for actuating the brake is on the same side as the hatch. The rod linking the brakes on both sides is very close to hopper. Still a nice build and something I've learnt before tackling mine
  6. Lincolnshire Wolds Railway at weekend, home of 3 LNER Grain wagons. The only 3 left in country and partly why line lasted so long in freight use to Louth. The same 3 were used by the malting company in Louth and traipsed to and from Grimsby docks area. Bit more information on them on " Dave's Railpics of Lincolnshire"
  7. Grimsby to Immingham Docks ilmenite working must be a contender? Chased it 1/90 with brake van and spotted as late as 5/92 with same trip wagons, Class 37 and brake van.
  8. Looks a pretty good build though seem to think not 100% Connoisseur but a mate of his if my recollection of website is absolutely correct. Must get to LWR at W/E as the brakes don't look quite right to me. Layout of rods and hangers just seems tad weird. The part of brake gear for pinning down brake lever seems to centrally placed. Sorry to comment especially when not manned up and built mine yet?
  9. Got 2 to build sometime but better finish the full size one first. Previous Connisseur kits a dream.
  10. Rather busy with work and garden but managed a bit of playtime and have had some help from the carriage chaps . Grain wagon in for a sand down, spot repair and complete repaint into hopefully full LNER livery as per the image in Tatlow book Felt a bit guilty as the SR brake van should be where the grain wagon is currently so as it was dry we got on with the veranda repair.
  11. Don't forget Jinty spotted at Strathpeffer, R D Stephen image from 20's
  12. Early in this thread I probably mentioned an image of a 45 in scrap line I had. Oddly looking for something else and 4 random pictures turned up. Pretty sure this is pretty much the last 1/91 Immingham Depot 47.402 adjacent to 37.251 Immingham Depot 31.309 next to 47.417 26/8/89 Immingham Depot 47.413 Immingham Depot 45.130 (looking very sad at end of scrap line, at this time she was visible from the road hence my original reason to gain access with appropriate permission/supervision)
  13. Nearly right chaps. From L to R Powsides 1plank, Port Wynnstay GNSR Van (have a bit of a thing about these fellows, done in 4mm and 7mm with another 2 to do! Just a full size one to have a crack at?) and Parkside LNER 6plank. The Grain wagon kit (3 again) is in the to do pile, which is enormous and needs rationalising i.e. all putting on e bay according to Sue. Not helped by a large box of Meccano that materialised recently. Fortunately Garden Room is self contained for when I get sent off!
  14. She has finally escaped, regrettably before we've had a chance to do the sign writing. It is planned though unsure if will be E87711 or E87872 as both numbers have appeared on her in the past. On to the next projects already: LNER Grain Wagon at Ludborough for repaint into LNER Freight Grey and a change of tack on the modelling front with 1/350 scale HMS Roberts
  15. Underframe is rapidly disappearing under gloss black. Last axle box cover cleaned and painted yellow. Roof covered in bitumastic type stuff. Posed the question in the forum; what size is the "Blue Spot" and is the shade of the other one at LWR correct? Come in 12, 15 and 18 inch diameter from what I can see and 2 shades? Also been asked to act a base for release of hedgehogs after a stay at a local rescue centre. Here is one of 6 that arrived at W/E, needless to say Monty is fascinated.
  16. Time to sign write the wagon I and some others have been doing last little tweaks on. See the LNER Grain Wagon pages in Preservation Section. Questions are; what size is the Blue Spot? Suggestions vary including 12, 15 or 18 inches. Also is the image of her brother (15 inch spot) the right shade? Thanks.
  17. It was a thought as a GP and ex triathlete. To me doping is doping and should attach to a lifelong/substantial ban. Yes you will argue the skier and nasal spray formulation was not exactly doping just careless but all athletes know the rules and the duties/responsibilities. The benefits length always interested me, especially Gilberts comments. Also the availability of stuff never fails to amaze, a patient once arrived with alleged vials of Nandrolone and asked if it would help is current injury.
  18. On another side point any work on how long the +ve effects of drug doping last after becoming clean?
  19. On the finishing stretch now. Been busy at work but the coach boys helped out a bit and she is now a rather splendid gloss white. My trivial effort today was touch up work on the black paint, primer some under frame bits and straighten up the brake pin. Now heading for sign writing and a debut at the 40's weekend gala at end of the month.
  20. Agree regarding W Hardin-Osbourne in RM. Messenger me above if you want a copy + some other images
  21. Worth a squint at scottishshale.co.uk While concentrates on the obvious from the name it does touch on other shale oil fields in UK
  22. On balance a good weekend marred only by the cutter belt failing on my Westwood sit on mower. Firstly Xmas sometimes comes more than one a year. I was given permission to commission 2 new angle strips for the doors and some deft welding by the carriage boys meant that by using the bits of the others we arrived at 4 usable sections. (2 fiddled and 2 new) Thanks to East Coast Engineering Grimsby for the new metal pieces and the carriage boys who were in top form fettling the 2 new pieces while I bodged a repair on the roof. Sunday was early start for a quick 10k now that my daughter has roped me into doing the 1/2 marathon at Mablethorpe and I have no intention of being shown up by a 20 year old. Grass cutting by hand now the tractor was broken and then off to Cleethorpes with about 10 minutes spare for the flying display at the Forces Open Weekend. No expert on planes but pretty sure this is B17 Sally B which took part in the film Memphis Belle amongst others.
  23. I always found the rationale for marketing NOAC interesting. In one breath they advocate NOAC for spending less than 65% in therapeutic range with Vitamin K antagonists but there is no INR like test of adequate anticoagulation ie compliance using a NOAC. Also still waiting for specific antidote to the NOAC's And yes guess who plumped for a Vitamin K antagonist for his DVT
  24. Back from very nice holiday in Portugal, and sat at pub over looking a certain Mr Bannatynes wedding in the distance. Full dress kilt in 31 degree heat is a bit much for me, rather have a large Super Boc! Anyway decided to fill some holes. There had been discussion on how to patch the damage; a) remove all the aluminium sheet and replace, bit dim after spending months stripping. b) rivet/screw aluminium strip over the worst c) bodge by hammering the worst, screwing loose edges tight into some reasonably solid wood behind and add a ton of filler. Plan C won and will pass muster but never win prizes
  25. On the more esoteric front does the NBR N Class (D25) that ran under own power and on temporary track from Newington Station to Meadows to take part in 1886 Edinburgh International Exhibition count? Clearly street running, not an inconsiderable distance (for those that know Edinburgh) and possibly one up on CR as 123 was hauled there! OK probably accept 123 wasn't technically a CR locomotive at that time if being pedantic?
