  1. Vandalism? I simply took a circular saw and cut it up!!!!!

Other key features to be installed:

The Fell will be more lightweight. I've still got several of the wooden frames, but there'll be a LOT less plaster used, if I can get away with it!

The layout has access in all 4 corners - especially the corner that looks across to the viaduct - the place that gives the photogenic train on viaduct shots.

I'm going to use a LOT less "droppers" onto the DCC bus. I used 2 pairs per yard length of SMP on KL. But the 6 foot run across the viaduct didn't have a single dropper and worked perfectly. So, maybe, one pair of dropper wires per piece of track. Means less soldering!

A bigger fiddle yard. The 12 storage lines I've planned should give about 50% more storage than KL1. It didn't seem important until Jason turned up. Within an hour, EVERY storage section/loop was packed with trains!

So there's a few more to keep you going, Billy. There will be more. It's a good question, and gets me thinking about what I'm planning to do.

    Jeff

Some great points you are showing us, allowing us to learn fro your mistakes experience

    Please keep them coming  :declare:

  2. That is an excellent suggestion and, to quote the politicians, "lessons WILL be learned".

The boards will (as far as I can achieve it) be in sections where sections can be removed (if necessary with a simple cut through the rail) without the need to rip everything up.

These were straight off the top of my head.

NOTICE that I DIDN'T say I'd be building it "weaker"!!!!!!!!!!!

    Jeff

Well thats a given I suppose after all the vandalism you have had to carry out on KL 1

  3. Ok Billy, it's the end of January. I don't think I'll be laying any track until the end of December. Is 11 months long enough?

I can't speak for Bodge, though. He'll start in May and be finished by the end of June - if he takes it easy!

    Jeff

    Jeff

I hadn't realised you would be that long without laying track. Are you able to make use of the time modeling buildings and scenery to put in place once your move is complete,

  4. If any of you haven't had a look at Mike's DENT thread, go and look at the superb photos he's just posted.

My mouth is salivating - can't wait to get going!!

    Jeff

Have to agree with the above Jeff, it is superb ans I want to start NOW.

    Bodge :sungum:

You two need to slow down and wait until you have something to build in. Gives us mere mortals a chance to put something together.

  5. Chris,

    Re. Andy's second shed.

Good point about all the glass - not easy to insulate, though many sheds now have double glazing options.

I think Andy just wanted to gain a bit more space to free up options for TLGP - and not asphyxiate himself at the same time once his "spray booth" gets into action.

Andy/anyone else. If you want to illustrate the coachwork - please post pics. Breaks up the monotony of writing and helps those of us who can't read properly!

    Jeff

I am having a similar problem to Andy, with my plans to run track round all the walls (and door for that matter but that's another problem) running out of Room to use as actual workshop space.
  6. A very interesting thread here,

If you could run us through the Dubdee again again that would be lovely.for all those of who did'nt see the published article.

A step by step would be nice. list of colours used etc.

For my mind and in my humble opinion .Your thread on here does recieve a lot of praise but  completely lacks any actual constructive criticism.

Since we are all on a learning curve it might nice to show some balance.

Look forward to the step by step..

    regards,

    Andy (ad1968)

If you have a look at some of AndyP's other threads such as Trebudoc http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/54364-trebudoc-in-o-gauge-videos-page-28-29-31-to-33-36/ you will find a few videos that go into greater detail with a bit more practical information.   :declare:

Great threads here andyp, lots of info to show us how to go about things when we didn't have a clue, not to long ago.  :sungum:

  7. I do wonder if we'll have scared loads of people off by that time! Do you think we can maintain interest for another 5 months?

I DO apologise to those out there who want to see me building stone walls and planet-sized Fells. It's what I want to do, but it's a bit tricky when your new house is still an open field!!

    Jeff

    Jeff

I dont think you will have any problem keeping up interest here, you will always have the hadcore Lunesters chipping in keeping the thread live & active.  :declare:

Plus many more who come back to the thread time & time again to look at the techniques used & transfer hopefully on to their own layouts.  :locomotive:

Luckily I fall into both groups  :sungum:

  8. No, thanks for all the nice shots, on a serious note it has convinced me that WHATEVER I decide to do, that baseboards will have to be removeable for the wiring to be done.

I am considering a second shed about 6 x 8 or so just for a workbench and spraying, I have seen the ones with the sloping out front windows and a bench along for Maximum daylight, something like this.

    Bodgit :sungum:

That shed looks ideal you will also be able to do all your own plants for your station planters  :locomotive:

You should then be in with a chance of winning "flower station of the Year 2014" from UK Station in Bloom

  9. Hi Shaun.

    Yes, I reckon I would!

My dad was a joiner/carpenter and my grandad was a bricklayer. I pursued the academic route, but the practical side has passed along - somehow. I enjoy designing and building/landscaping gardens for people. Here's a couple of shots of a patio I built around a friend's pond last summer:

I've got the garden planned in the new house - patios, raised beds etc and the garage conversion/layout work ready to go!

    Jeff

Jeff, is their likely to be a garden railway in the future, seems like a natural progression, with even bigger bits to play around with,

Of course you will need a JCB to build the hills up and get down to the river bed

  10. Jeff

Its great to see that you have managed to get the viaduct out with very little damage, it will make life easier for you when you reinstate on KL 2.  :boast:

If only we could fast forward several months and see it all in its new home.

I suppose we other lunesters had better get stocked up with glue, screws & timber etc before you start ordering & taking delivery of the entire country's supply of it all, so that you can put it all together again  :locomotive:

We don't want the same world shortage we had last time you were in building mode.  :nono:

  11. Just logged in - and you lot have been busy! I'll have a good read shortly.

Billy - you really made me chuckle with that on. You've got it spot on - as you'll see with the next batch of pics. I like working with wood and I DO tend to "over engineer".

More pics in an hour or so - the Subframe etc.....

    Jeff

    Jeff

You are famous for the amount of timber you use around the world, I was only reading that politicians all around the globe are saying they are not responsible for the disappearing rain forest & laying the blame firmly with you saying " its all the fault of some bloke in the North of England building a model railway"  :declare:

  12. Hi all, here is a short video clip of the Super D at our club last night, sorry about the background noise, (every club has one  ) and the unfinished state of the layout, its very much a work in progress.

The Loco is fitted with a Locolines sound chip and I like it, unfortunately the guy in the middle was not too o fay with DCC and so I couldn't show all the sounds to really good effect, I wish I could have got him to slow it down so you could hear it weasing on over run.

In case your wondering I think its 31 wagons, although I had to take one off at some point as I had a coupling problem. :O :locomotive: :locomotive: :locomotive:

    Bodge :sungum:

What an excellent chuffing video, good to see you back behind the camera again, great timing with the Oscars coming up shortly.  :declare:

Are we likely to see yourself & George collaborating again on any videos in the near future, you make a very good double act together
