All quiet on here tonight, most of you MUST HAVE LAYOUTS TO PLAY WITH,
Baaa humbug :scared: :scared: :scared:
Angry of Swad
Very quiet!
No layout for me, just a cracking good curry and now I'm off to my brothers for coffee.
Agree about the baaaa humbug, but it won't be long, Andy.
Then we can fill another few hundred pages between us with a bit of train stuff and a load of lunacy!!!!
Jeff
Are we going to have to get the violins out for you two
-
John
Well, things seem to be moving on since I last called to see Lincoln Central,
You mentioned a few posts ago that you had problems with some Cobalts, what was the problem with them.
-
Nick
I haven't been here for a long time but your great work continues, spent the last hour catching up on your thread here, a real pleasure, thanks.
-
First off, thank you all and congratulations to everyone for taking us to page 20 with 475 replies and over 21,000 views - and not a piece of track laid, yet, but all your help, support and input, is helping me get there. You have contributed so much information and many real life stories. It has not only been informative, but entertaining, funny HAHA, reminiscent, and reassuring, and loads more besides.
And, now, back to business.
Donw. Yes, the signal box won't want to be overworked. I'll have to get the 9F out to see how long that is. No I won't: I can Google it.
So, in ascending order:
9F 2-10-0 / 66ft 2" = nearly101/2" in 4mm scale
WC 4-6-2 / 67 ft 43/4 in (20.54 m)
WD 2-8-0 / 67 ft 6 1⁄4 in (20.58 m) over buffers = 270mm = 105/8" = just over 101/2"
[Loco dimensions from Wikipedia]
Of course, in 4mm, it'll all depend on how closely coupled the tender is to the loco.

Compare this with the prototype.

I think (hope) the gap can be adjusted on the model, though.

First of all a bit late but seasons greetings.
20 pages moving towards 500 replies because its fascinating stuff, onwards to a 1000 replies then

Billy, you'll have noticed that KL currently doesn't exist.
However, I think you were more likely referring to the quality of the humour on here. Fortunately, it's as bad as ever!
Especially from that NZ bloke who can't abide any music written after 1900: Shostakovich and slide rules.....
Rob - if you like Bruch, listen to his cello piece Kol Nidrei. Magic music.
Jeff
Jeff
I had noticed that there didn't seem to be much modeling going on regarding KL, I just put it down to the Christmas / New Year break but given your post above I thought I better delve back a bit further, I now see the issue, moving house is always stressful but will be added to with all the work you have done over the past 18 month or so.
It looks like you have plenty of advice being given to you from all the right people. I am also sure you will plan things down to the nth degree with military precision.
So I am sure your phoenix will rise again in a few months.
-
I go away for 6 months and what happens, another 1000 or so posts to catch up on, great progress here.
Note to self "must get back more often"

Hi all,
Many, many thanks for all the interest - it really is most encouraging. I will, I MUST keep it up!!!
Hiya PoB,
Yes I guess you're right! I can only remember my folks taking the mick out of them what spoke like that!!!
Yes it was the proximity of the quarry on Mercaston Lane and the Tarmac facility in Mugginton that led me to dream up a stone quarry near here! Can't be too implausible? Didn't a mutual good friend (Phil T.) work around here?
Hiya BillyB,
Thanks for the interest, unfortunately I can only just give space over to a loading area, no way have I got room for the quarry, I only wish I had!
Cheers all,
John E.
John
I have just had to take stock of where my plan was going, for a first attempt I was trying to do to much, my quarry as had to go but may be able to keep a loading area.
I shall be calling by regularly to see how things are going and hopefully pick up a few tips. I don't know where I would be without all the Lunesters on here.
-
That is REALLY bad, even by
myBodgit's standards!!At least I'm not old enough to have used a slide rule!
Jeff
Its good to see that you have kept up the high standards in my absence

Another one to follow, looks very interesting, are you going to include the quarry you mention

As promised, the plan for the main line bridge. This is based on the link given in the previous post.
Jeff
Great detail there Jeff, the amount of time, thought & effort you put into this project is just....... amazing
-
Well, I spend a few days away from here & it happens again page upon page of........ well, pages to read
..........but what a great read and good progress
-
Like others are saying, great progress Scott
Your project suddenly seems to have really taken off

The hills look great on the photos above
But it seems a bit strange that you have all that snow in the foreground and non on the hills its usually the other way around
-
Billy check out Trebudoc, at the bottom of page 28 is a video done by George of me doing a backscene
Bodgit
I though I had seen something like it somewhere on the telly or similar
Its those two old codgers of Trebudoc
-
That last photo sets a very nice scene, although as you say maybe a little to green
-
Wonderful bodging there
Have you ever thought about doing a video of the back-scenes
I'm sure we would like to see how its done
-
Polly
I am sure all Lunesters are awaiting anxiously to see the photos of your mock up
Its been a long time coming and we would like to see some action
In other words we cant wait to see what your going to be doing
-
Well all I can say is ramble on Jeff, That's why we visit, to find out what you and our fellow ramblers think.
It is very quite, I have a few other things to do today away from Sheddington
I am still managing to visit our fellow Lunester sites every now & again but I am filling in with a review or two its that quiet
-
So how the back-scene coming along then
-
The plastering seems to be coming along ok
It certainly already gives some depth to the project
-
Unbelievably quiet on here, and across the Forum, for a weekday!!
I've found a few (mostly not very useful) cutting shots - many are very wide and grassy. This one IS from the S&C, no matter the label on the photo, and shows plenty of rocky cutting-base...
My cuttings will have plenty of the rocky stuff!

Off to the bunker to idle away an hour in thought and contemplation. As you do!!!! (Reminds me of the great Colonel/General Jack O'Neill from "Stargate SG-1".... "It's what I do!")
Jeff
I am fairly certain there's nothing like that in the Thames Valley
Maybe you could build them something like it for them, you could cover London with it
-
More great videos there Nick, I always enjoy looking in on you here
-
I think I will have to try the celotex its available at our local Wickes for £5-59 for the 50mm x 1200mm x 450mm It may well work for my quarry area
-
Great photos of your club layout Andy, I am sure Jeff will find it inspires him even more as I am sure it will all Lunesters

I spent some time last night & will continue later going through your Cobalt pages along with control a great help thanks.
I have query though about track (because I couldn't find it in the wonderful index) distance between track in maintenance / shunting yards, would you generally have a greater distance in these areas (in the real world) for safety, say 10 ft throughout rather than six foot.
Your comments & of course fellow Lunester comments would be gratefully received.
