  1. The 9F that John Brighton and Greg Shaw had at Expo was not finish and had been heavily modified. The original springing arrangement had been taken out and underslung CSBs substituted. Not that it had not had the valve gear fitted.
  2. The screw link coupling don't articulate and the tommy bars fell off, so I am going to have to look at the CAD again. As fo strength, I don't know yet, but I would guess they would be OK for a shunting plank.
  3. Everything about the Bradwell chassis prototypical, except the number that are known to have been built.
  4. The coaches behind the diesel were the ones that there were HO brass kits of.
  5. Are there photos of these vans with black ironwork in service? There are lots of photos of photos of wagons from many different companies showing black ironwork. Closer inspection of them show that they are invariably builder's photos and the black ironwork is a temporary artefact akin to the photographic grey livery given to locos.
  6. I somehow don't think so have a look at this. He may be talking about setting up a bureau, but what he says applies equally to home based machines. If you want to build big models at high resolution then someone is going to have to invest in expensive machines. Hopefully the likes of Shapeways have given a lead in they way the market is likely to going, at least in the next decade or so.
  7. Don't thing the barrels would have been loaded like that. There are a couple of photos in Tatlow's LNER wagons that shows barrels loaded on their sides, with sacks full of straw to stop them moving around. These barrels are admittedly much bigger than the ones you have, since there are only 6 in the wagon, so they must have been c. 4'6" high and about 3' in diameter.
  8. There were some HO brass kits produced for the FGC coaches in the early 90s
  9. Yep, have fun building 'sculptures' before you start on anything that costs you money. For flux I would recommend 'Easyflow' or any other 'plumbers' flux. However if you don't clean it off at the end of a session the your model with go green within a couple of day. Cleaning off Easyflow is dead simple -- you just put your model in a suitable sized container and pour boiling water over it. The flux has its active ingredient dispersed in semi-liquid soap, both are water soluble, but hot waster works a whole lot better.
