  1. I'm not a 'mine' of information it 'seams' Wonder where the boundary is? It might slip over the border Matt
  2. Hatfield is part of Don Valley constituency represented by Caroline Flint. Edit: I was typing this at the same time as 838rapid was posting above so sorry for any confusion
  3. According to the March Hornby Magazine their review says it can crawl so slow that it took 30 minutes to crawl 6ft! I think if its like that it would give Hornby's Class 60 a run for its money in slow speed control. Certainly the slow speed control has been 'designed clever' hopefully good news for the Sentinel. Edited for a typo.
  4. The BBC website report comes across very differently to the one on TV at lunchtime where her comments were more generalised criticism than anything specifically rail related. Regarding the country lane the road has been slipping there for forty years the charge hand told me since he started on the roads in 1970 it has consumed 1000 tonnes of tarmac and this time NYCC are going to deal with it once and for all with piles etc Speaking to a retired engineer earlier today he said this is the sort of challenge that can make your career if you get it right. I do think though we all have to be very grateful that the authorities are not dealing with the consequences of a major disaster.
  5. The Mayor of Stainforth was on BBC Look North at lunchtime claiming they have been asking for this colliery tip to be moved for years but 'nobody listens because it is only Stainforth' told the reporter 'Why should we have to look at a coal tip?' In between her waffle it appears that the land is still moving and NR say it will have settle for a while before they start repair, to put this into context a very small landslip near me on the edge of a country lane at Christmas has lead to the lane being closed until July at least so the '8 weeks' mentioned looks a tad optimistic.
  6. There was a full report on BBC Look North (Yorkshire), coming soon on i-player I think we all have to be thankful that no trains were running on the line at the time as the consequences would of been disastrous. Here is another shocking picture: http://www.doncasterfreepress.co.uk/news/doncaster-news/tracks-destroyed-by-pit-spoil-heap-1-5407306
  7. I don't know if this helps but Endeavour Wharf in Whitby's Upper Harbour was rail connected, although I am lead to believe by a former track worker in Whitby never saw any trains (he was based in Whitby from LNER day's until the early 1980's!). When the Herring Fleet used to travel up and down the East Coast there are numerous pictures of up to several hundred small herring vessels (1930's-50's) in the harbour surely in the pre lorry age most of this must have gone by rail? Until the abandonment 12 years ago of commercial shipping in Whitby Endeavour Wharf was where primarily timber from Scandinavia and latterly strip steel from Holland was landed although other cargo's including Fertiliser and scrap metal have passed through. The Wharf has also served as a'safe haven' in the upper harbour for Trawlers when the condition in the lower harbour have prevented the safe moorings of Vessels and also in the days when there were lots of Trawlers extra moorings. I know its modellers license but on my model railway based on the Esk Valley line I have several trains going to and from the docks, with the odd fish van included. Hope this helps. Matt
  8. Yes it was thanks, it was the Lenz Digital Standard the product code is: L10231. It really has improved the Hall, I even managed to shunt with it earlier! Judging by the success of the decoder in the Hall I will be upgrading all my steam locos to Lenz as the change is unbelievable. I have to say in fairness to Bachmann that their 36-553 decoder works perfectly in my Hornby Class 60 although it made my Hornby 73 sound like a bag of spanners!
  9. Just to say thanks to everyone who contributed; Sketty Hall now runs beautifully with its Lenz decoder gone from being unusable to hauling 5 coach trains (my max limit) no problem! Matt
  10. Many thanks to everyone for their advice. I'll try going down the Lenz route first, one's winging its way from Liverpool as I type, I really have despaired over the Hall so thanks and hopefully it'll work now. Just to say I have the 36-553 in my Hornby Castle and it works well just doesn't like Bachmann steam loco's. Matt
  11. Sorry forgot to add which CV's I've altered! CV 2, CV5, CV49 and CV's 54/55 which haven't improved running sadly. My Hornby steam loco's all run well with Bachmann Decoders as do Diesels from both Bachmann/Hornby just not Bachmann steam engines.
  12. I have both a Bachmann Hall, 32-004 Sketty Hall, and a Bachmann 56XX Tank, 32-075, both are using Bachmann 36-553 Decoders on the Bachmann Dynamis control system. The engines run fine on DC but on DCC jerk and stutter and are basically useless unless i want them running at full speed! I've altered CV's as recommended by Bachmann and they still won't work . I was wondering if anyone had any advice please as I feel like going back to DC at the moment!
