  1. Terrific finish to a great little project. Well done.
  2. Great weathering. If my attempts turn out half as good as that i`ll be very pleased. Not taken the plunge yet but not far away. Jim.
  3. You have every right to be pleased with that. A very good result for your efforts. Suitably painted it will look just the part. Cheers.

    A start on airbrushing

I`ve been thinking on similar lines to you regarding a home made spray booth and i wondered if a removable frame in front of the extractor fitted with the type of filter sheet you use for kitchen extractors might work, although thickness might be a problem. Trial and error really. Best of luck with your effort though. Cheers just now, Jim.
  5. Very realistic. Like the back scene, is that a photograph? Some nice modelling.
  6. You make a great case for smaller models. The attention to detail is excellent. At a first look it`s almost the real thing. Great modelling.
  7. Thanks for posting the picture, it`s looking good. I have two similar vehicles one of which decided to shed the hand wheels and a lot of time was spent grovelling about on the garage floor trying to find them, with no luck. After reading your blog, I now know where to get replacements from so many thanks for that. Cheers just now.
  8. What a result! Well done for thinking of something out of the ordinary and then getting stuck in and producing it. To start doing things like that at your age bodes well for future projects. I`m certain most good modellers today will have started like you. Great stuff.
  9. Hi Ian, Spent the afternoon going through your blogs on the motive power for Camden. You certainly give people ideas on modifying rtr models or complete re builds. The results you have produced over time have been outstanding with, I think, British Legion being a fine piece of work. I agree with you about building Walschaerts valve gear, very fiddly to work on and need delicate handling but give a much more satisfying result, definitely worth the effort. Best of luck with your continuing production line! Cheers just now, Jim.
  10. Hi Ian, I have in front of me a drawing of an L M S Stanier 9ton 4000 gallon tender drawn by a J F Henderson in 1973. There are a great number of measurements on it, albeit some a wee bit faded but if it is of any use to you you`re welcome to have it if you let me know where to send it. Other than that, look for the mags that Tiptonian suggested and also Historic Locomotive Drawings In 4MM Scale by F J ROCHE. Cheers just now Jim.
  11. Progressing well for a first attempt.
  12. Well done on persevering with your point work. You should have seen the mess i made of the first ones i built! Like most things, as you make more, hopefully things improve, as i`m sure you will find out eventually. Personally i find point making interesting in that you can create whatever suits your situation. Any radius turnout i needed i drew on the back of old bits of wallpaper using a piece of string with a knot in it and a pencil on the other end at the required distance, once drawn, it was laid over a sleeper drawing, a piece of grease proof paper went over that ( for transparency ) copper clad sleepers laid in their positions and the rail curved and soldered according to the said drawing. This might sound a long winded way of doing it but it worked for me and they`re still in use. Best of luck with your own constructions
  13. Thanks Ian, pity we can`t get the lunatics into railway modelling, they would benefit from a very rewarding hobby and it might calm them down a bit. On second thoughts, looking at what`s going on in the real railway world, that might be difficult.
  14. A Happy New Year to everyone, hope all goes well in 2017. My thanks to all those who helped with answers to my numerous questions last year. How much progress in this coming year? Well for me, it`s going to be a case of trying to complete several kits that have been sitting around waiting to be built for longer than i`d like. With prices being what they are for new rtr items i just thought, for the time being, complete what you`ve already got for a change. So , hopefully, a set of four Stevenson T P O coaches will get looked at, along with two Jamieson locos that need re-assembling, painting and dcc fitted, a Comet chassis to go under a Mainline Scot, a twelve wheel LMS restaurant car and an `0` gauge DJH Black 5 kit plus a few other odds and sods.! The one frustrating thing about this hobby in particular is that there are so many sections in it to piece together that working on one bit , another has to be left alone so the word for me this year is planning ( or trying to! ) Hopefully some success by next Christmas. All the best, Cheers just now. Jim.
  15. Very nice work. Hope progress will be good in 2017. Best wishes for the new year.
  16. Some nice track work on there. Always interesting to see the work involved in getting the track right. Cheers just now, Jim.
  17. A really nice looking loco. If the Jubilee looks like that you`ll have a nice pair of loco`s.

    Coal Hole

That`s some nice weathering on a great piece of work. I`d like to get mine as good as that.
  19. That`s some high standard modelling. Great overall layout view.
  20. What a terrific end to your work. Superb construction, beautifully painted and lined, and now completed with great sound. A prizewinner in any competition.
  21. Totally agree with Midland Mole. All but two of my locos are L M S but i have to confess to owning a Bullied pacific and an A4, both gifts. I f i run them i tend to look the other way!!!!!
  22. Good to see Foster Street on here again. Began to think you might be on a new project. I think in any hobby you get times where things get a bit stale and you struggle for ideas, my current one being what to put on the front board edge to deter people from wanting to touch things. I was always told " look , but don`t touch " I agree with the others regarding the chap at the exhibition. I often wonder what their hobby is. Be nice to see what they do. I bet they wouldn`t stand any suggestion that something might not be quite right. Our hobby is full of compromise and modellers license, without it we`d have no layouts. Cheers just now.
  23. Have to agree with the others. The colours give it a very atmospheric look. Great modelling.
  24. That`s an outstanding model for two months work and beautifully painted. A real credit to your skill as a modeller.
  25. Afternoon all, With all the usual things going on in the year ( and a few extras ) modelling has been a wee bit on the slow side but one or two things have been managed. The one thing i wanted to try and complete was my water tower. I managed to get started back in April and it`s been slow progress since but apart from making some dummy lights i`ve just about finished it. Hopefully i can manage to add a couple of pictures at the end of this blog. I took inspiration from watching Ian in his Camden blog in the layout topics section and more or less built it the same way but i jigged the frame a different way when soldering. So if you read this Ian, many thanks. It`s an all brass construction except for the tank cover and frame plates which are both plasticard. The hand rails were made from brass wire and tinned to help with the paint. The five ash tubs are again plasticard made and i used Graham Farrish N gauge wagon axles with the pinpoint ground back to the axle diameter and they stand on suitably buried track, the idea coming from various pictures. The next bit to make now will be some water columns, if i can find a suitable picture to use as a reference. Hopefully the pictures are on here and haven`t disappeared into the ether! Cheers just now.
