Accurascale Class 55 Deltic - 4mm scale
philg replied to Andy Y's topic in Accurascale / Irish Railway Models
This is why I was asking Accurascale to document which lights are wired to which functions. Only then is it possible to know which F button can be mapped to what light. So far I haven’t seen this (other from other modellers who have described how their versions seem to work) -

We’ll maybe. They may sell SOME at that price, but pretty certain they’d not have sold anywhere near so many. I wouldn’t even pay half that for just DCC ready -

I’m wondering if it’s possible to use ThreadLoc to attach the chains? Need something that’s firm but easily removable…… -

Neither did I. What does that mean for last- minute bidders though? -

Maybe it’s time for someone to start selling class 89 futures? -

I’m still waiting for my two, so can’t experiment, but I have been devouring the documentation as it becomes available But Have AccuraScale documented anywhere WHICH lights are wired to WHICH function outputs? That’s basic knowledge that is needed before anyone tries to remap lights to other function buttons Hopefully I’ve just missed it somewhere…..?? -

It’s only extortion if somebody makes you pay it. If people are happy to pay over the odds, then that’s the true value and the rest of us got a bargain. Maybe useful to share with domestic authorities? -

Yes you can move (or remove) functions at will It involves some cv programming though and is best attempted with some programming software. I use DecoderPro/JMRI but others are available Id also ALWAYS take a “backup” of the as-delivered CVs in case things go awry. You can always then restore -

Aha! Glad it’s not just me! I’d almost given up on DCC due to all the faffing around, until I checked out Zimo. 12 months later I’m 100% Zimo - but with an ESU to look forward to I’d really hoped that ESU (as a premium decoder manufacturer) had progressed beyond the mainstream -

Am I the only one wondering why the decoders don’t come preprogrammed with the optimum set of CVs? Other sound decoders I’ve purchased have done….. -

Some can and some can’t. There are “c” and “d” versions of some older decoders. It’d be expensive to get the “wrong” one :( -

I’m hoping not restricted to ESU. But you do need to make sure it’s the “right” kind of 21MTC. They are not all equal Im hoping to try Zimo at some point -

I hit the same issue ordering my Mk2s, though went for PayPals “pay in 3” instead -

The latest Zimo decoders do have extensive (beyond NMRA) function remapping, but it does probably need a programmer to manage easily. Not sure if it’s as flexible as ESU though, their function remapping seems to be infinitely tailorable -

A few posts back I was "lobbying" for manufacturers to seriously consider looking at Pluxx22 instead of the 21MTC interface for their decoders As those of us who have struggled know only too well, there are TWO contradictory standards for 21MTC (around whether Aux3 and Aux4 are logic level outputs or full function voltage) - which means you have to be very careful which 21MTC decoder you use with each 21MTC loco!! Plux22 has only ONE standard, so any Plux22 decoder works in every Plux22 loco Plux22 also has pretty much the same electrical support as 21MTC (front/rear lights, SEVEN other function outputs (all at full voltage), speaker and keep-alive connections) If not so many AUX functions are needed, there's the possibility of Plux16 (only has Aux1 and 2) Though I've not seen one, there is also a standard for a "compact Plux decoder" which should be only 1mm high! SO, there is nothing that 21MTC can do that Plux22 can't, and the latter does away with all the confusion about function level outputs I rest my case m'lud EDIT - I just found the Zimo MX630P16, so there are Plux16s out there :) -

I just got TWO emails from Rails, but both for the same order so no “bonus” Deltic for me Hopefully I’ll get a redirect option from ParcelForce. I’m highly likely not to be around when the Deltic gets here -

No braking on ESU?? I’m astounded frankly If they haven’t already, maybe Accurascale could also do a comparison between ESU and Zimo -

Do these ESUs also allow you to tweak back-EMF settings? That’s often the cause of poor slow-speed running -

Exactly why I committed to Zimo - their slow speed is ridiculous (and comes "out of the box" with no CV fiddling). There's some black magic at work I think! -

I’ll be doing a head to head comparison of ESU and Zimo when mine arrive (for drivability, not sound). If anyone else is planning to do the same, I’d love to compare notes -

Maybe the starting voltage for step one needs increasing? If so, I find this disappointing for a premium decoder ive spent the last 12 months replacing ALL my decoders with Zimo ones. They ALWAYS crawl at speed step one no matter what I put them in. From Thomas the Tank Engine upwards. Don’t know how they do it, but I’d kind of hoped ESU would come close. I’ll have to play when I get mine (already got a Zimo decoder waiting for my non-sound one….) And on the DCC subject can I make a plea for ditching 21MTC in favour of Plux22? MUCH less scope for confusion -

It would be REALLY useful to be able to swap detailed & undetailed buffer beams though ……. Hint Hint
