  1. Many thanks to Brian for the updates on these coaches. Seriously good work on improving the Railroad versions - but really, none of this should be necessary in this day and age to get a good model. I looked at the Railroad Mk2e's at the Spalding exhibition at the weekend but couldn't bring myself to purchase even at £21 each - the grey colour looked so wrong let alone the "sole bar" issue. Come on Hornby, you've produced some excellent stuff in the past, and continue to do so - but what went so wrong with these? As a 1985-95 BR modeller, (heart sinks when I read of more ancient SR emu's) I was really looking forward to these, so major disappointment. Just have to wait for the Bachmann 2f's now and hope for the best with those.
  2. Wow, great photo Michael! Thanks for posting. Those were the days! Roll on the Bachmann models!
  3. Really excellent news! Thank you very much Bachmann.
  4. Very many thanks for that very useful info SRman. I've been in the process of detailing my Lima and Limby 101 front ends. Have been at that on and off for ages. I could never get the yellow quite right, but your info will make me have another go! I'll be getting the ModelStrip out (yet again!) tonight! I always painted round the inside of the widow fames in matt dark grey before r-fitting the glazing though - been doing that for years. Time consuming, but a vast improvement on any model. I'll be soldering on with my Lima 101's for a while yet, as I'm afraid I don't hold out much hope for the Bachmann blue/grey ones as already discussed on forums. But I sincerely hope I'm wrong! All the best.
  5. Hi, the yellow ends look great - just the right shade. Something I always have trouble with. Now off to my local model shop to buy a tinlet of Humbrol #69 Mustn't forget the dash of orange! Did you brush the yellow on, if so did you need to thin the paint? Thanks
  6. I feel there's a market out there for decent AC electrics. Bachmann's 85 is totally superb, but we have no readily available catenary to run it under. Dapol's masts are lovely, but no wires available yet. Such a shame Heljan made a b***s up of their 86. Could have been a great seller - think of all the liveries the class has carried over the years. Class 90's would be the same. Come on manufacturers - give us new Class 86, 87 and 90. You know it makes sense! After all there are not many more D&E classes to do!!
  7. Hi, Have you checked out the latest comments on the decorated versions that were at Warley NEC a couple of weeks ago? Now thinking the Lima/Hornby bodies may actually be better! Do I sense yet another hybrid looming? - i.e. old bodies on new Bachmann chassis?!
  8. Excellent - great inspiration. Just starting something similar myself after 18 years away from the hobby!
