  1. I am sure this has been discussed before. And before we go further I know a frog is an angle not a radius. However my locos are recommended for a minimum radius of 24" so what should I use as a minimum angle frog to match? I don't want derailments. I have some number 6 points and these are ok but I want to know if I can go tighter. Thanks in advance. Leigh
  2. How does the AMS C16 compare size wise to the Bachmann Consolidation?
  3. Many Thanks Chas, really appreciated
  4. Thanks very much, I have finally laid a point on one of my On30 modules so time to build the Harp stand. Might have to save the posts offline to future proof it for myself!!
  5. Well that sucks, such a great resource lost. Are we not able to access your photos on Photobucket directly if you give us a link? Wont fit the threads, but at least we can can still browse all your lovely photos. Could you re-post the harp stand tutorial with the photos? Thanks very much.
  6. Chas, what is the source of the cork dust?
  7. The #148 is the equivalent of the #5. But you can also get long and short, over and under shanks as needed, depending on your needs and how accurate the box you are fitting it to is set.
  8. The Kadee whisker coupling fits in the Bachmann box fine.
  9. Thanks John. Already asked Paul about it previously, Said I am just as quick to order direct. I am going to the narrow gauge convention in Denver later in the year so I will be pre ordering a suitcase full of stuff to bring pack from various suppliers!!! Now back to Chas' super modelling! Leigh
  10. Absolutely perfect Chas. Are you planning on refitting the snow plow in the future? If not PM me as would be interested if you want to part with it.
  11. Great tutorial Chas. Ordered some Casey blue and a toolmakers clamp. Sure they will be useful tools generally so when they arrive I will have a go at assembling some switch stands. What are the dimensions of your jig? I am sure I could work out the measurements, but since you have already done the hard work.... Thanks again. P.S. Did you get the 2-8-0 with snow plow? Love to see a pic.
  12. Yes to a step by step on the harps. Then I can copy someone who knows what they are doing when I have to assemble mine!! For the Wye is a DCC autoreverser not easier? Admittedly I know nothing about electronics other than what colouron the chip goes to where on the loco so all this talk of diodes has lost me!
  13. Really I'm quite dissapointed that this is in your loft so unlike Dock Green we wont get to see this in the flesh. The modelling is incredible. Leigh
  14. The glazing does pop out but it a bit tricky. You need to kinda push it out using LED. Then any other 3mm LED fist in the space/ Leigh
  15. Really, really looking forward to seeing this at Warley
  16. Looking good. Really looking forward to seeing Mara Harbour at Warley.
  17. Thanks all, The Daisy looks quite nice. Anyone know if anyone will have one available for a hands-on and demo at Warley?
  18. Title says it. Looking for non Digitrax loconet throttles. Why? Am part of a modular group that have agreed to use Digitrax loconet as our dcc system. We each need to provide a throttle but the group provides the base station. What. It needs to be compatible with Digitrax loconet and be a throttle and accessory controller. Why not a dt402. Not totally sure it won't be. Just used one today and not found it very intuitive and it's not especially cheap. At home I am running a nce power can and really like the design and ergonomics of the handset. And price was good when I bought it. So really what I'm asking is there a reasonably priced, loconet throttle that is more nce is design. Thanks very much.
  19. Good things come to those who wait (apparently) and I'm sure it will be good, and also as you say, having fun is part of the point of the whole thing, doesn't matter if that is planning, making or running (and my On30 modules are very much in the having fun while planning stage!!) Leigh
  20. Looking good Chas. I really like the idea of glimpsing the train through the trees, then it appearing and clattering across the bridge before partially vanishing again. I hope you manage to recreate that and look ford to seeing a video of the running train soon leigh
  21. The L&B measured and drawn book is expensive, but is well worth it of you have a serious interest in L&B and plan to do any sort of prototype modelling. I cant see you having many scale drawings you would need that are not in the book.
  22. I use an NCC powercab. Its basic, but works well and can expand it with boosters as required. Comes to about £120 IIRC. Chas, on my dads layout we had an issue with the settings of trip level, where it was not tripping slowly enough for the powercab to not restart before the short had been corrected. Could it be a setting in there that is not tripping in the right time/right current etc... and its just the fowler that is causing that? Just a thought? Leigh
  23. Fantastic Heather, Chas is going to be lucky to have this on Dock Green
  24. Silvering is caused by tiny air bubbles under the transfer. Because the matt surface is rough on a microscopic level it is more common on matt surfaces. Gloss surfaces are smoother so the chance of it is greatly reduced, but not totally eliminated. Using a setting and a softening solution (Micro-Sol and Micro-Set or equivalent) can also help reduce this. There is nothing that stops you applying it over matt surfaces, bit I always apply gloss first. As I come from a war gaming background I tend to gloss the whole model as this is more hard wearing for handling, then transfers, then matt or satin for desired final finish. If I weather I often seal just the transfers under a gloss, weather and then do the final matt/sating coat. Leigh
