  1. I use Duro Green stuff. Is a two part putty like miliput but green, and slightly more flexible. I bought a new 6" strip off eBay the other day for less than £4 and arrived in two days. Alternatively there is squadron putty, never used it myself but is often highly recommended. The only reason I don't use it is it is supposed to have some nasty fumes and I have to model in my living room so always very cautious of anything putting fumes into a room I cant leave easily!! Leigh
  2. Before you start trying to change the b-2-b have you got another set of wheels you could temporarily put in the pony with exact 29mm to see if that does solve it?
  3. Great shots. And thanks for track plan. Am I correct in assuming each board is 4' long?
  4. IS there a track plan for Mara harbour hidden somewhere? I couldn't find it and as I start to plan my own layout am looking for inspiration/good layouts to shamelessly rip-off!!
  5. Fantastic video, If we ignore the background almost like the real thing. Only thing and I'll admit this to be a personal pet peeve! The trucks on the loading dock seem very shiny compared to the rest of the properly lived in and used environment. Leigh
  6. Thanks, Didn't realise they did different colour primers, I have just always used grey Leigh
  7. Nevadablue, have you go the deep cut blade for the curio. By interested to know if this can cut all the way through material. If it does might be time to upgrade. Leigh
  8. Same here, definitely need to experiment more. Must be my new year project. What setting did you use for the scribing and cutting on the 20 thou?
  9. Amazing CCT. Did you cut the ends or are they casting, more info definitely needed Leigh
  10. The EDM one are very strong. Perhaps even bordering on too strong as the have a tendency to jump together when they get even vaguely close. I have them out just now so measured them, they are 42mm long on the outside part, the inside part is 30mm
  11. Hi Chas, here is the link to a photo on the EDM site, similar to the York ones. Although mine are a rather fetching shade of bright yellow plastic!!! http://www.ngtrains.com/Pages/Scenic/Clamps1.jpg The cement bottle stand is a good idea. My dad always had a block of 2x4 with a hole milled in the for the oblong mek-pak bottle. I use a block of dense foam meant for storing jars, but is a good firm fit. Just don't do what I did which was remove bottle from stand to bring closer to you, knock it over and the wonder what possessed you to take it out of stand on the first place!!! Leigh
  12. I purchased some right angle clamps from EDM, probably more expensive than Chazs block and magnets but have a nice cut out in the corner so you can get glue down the join you are clamping. They are not huge and pretty strong, just about small enough to fit inside an On30 caboose cupola. Leigh
  13. Thanks, Didn't even know about them, but then here in the UK accuraft is more large scale live steam and having goolgled they don't seem to stock it on their site. Where do you get yours from? Direct from the US?
  14. Similar to the vinyl I have also done paint masks, stick the masking tape to plasticard, send through portrait and then peel off when cut and apply to models. Leigh
  15. Hi, I demoed my portrait to surrey area group of 7mm Narrow Gauge association at our modelling day at the weekend, well received, but quite a few asked if you could cut veneer or thin ply or balsa. Any experience with this, does it cut ok, or does the grain grab the blade? Thanks Leigh
  16. Hi Chas, with regard to wagon weighting the advice given to me was that they should all be of a consistent weight. So if all yours are the same weight they should be ok. The advantage of using a standard, such as GOG, is that it means they are compatible with others should you wish to use them elsewhere. Much like other standards such as coupler heights etc... if you are consistent and don't wish to interact with anyone else then its fine!! Leigh
  17. What happened to the water tower? Did I miss that?
  18. I would use S and D figures OF2A the seated industrial driver, is sitting and has a fag in mouth, could be easily modified the location. leigh
  19. I don't think it is ever obvious. Because, with the exception of clubs we all work in isolation we have our own ways of doing things, but never means that there is not another way to do it. For someone like myself, as a relative beginner to railway modelling, there is always something to learn. It is only by people like you taking the time to share you experiences we can learn, and in many cases, seeing you overcome issues and make mistakes, gives us the confidence to give it a go. While your modelling is superb and something I can only aspire to, seeing who you made it by lots of little steps has given me the confidence to do more on my own. Please keep it up Leigh
  20. Looking at Adams photos it suggests you may need more than just a mid-way stanchion on the stairs. They seem to have one every third of the way. No idea if this is typical, I do just wonder if only a mid way stanchion would look a little sparse. Regards Leigh
  21. With the hot glue how do you manage not to leave the dribbles I aways seem to get as I move the hot glue gun away? leigh
