Apologies if I am asking a question that has already been asked in here, I am working through it, but also have had my portrait since my birthday (before christmas) and have only just opened and done my first test prints, Can you print/cut directly from AutoCAD? IF not can you open a DXF with the colours used retained? Thanks all, excited to start using it. Just must remember that 9-5 CAD is for work, not railways! Thanks Leigh

Dad put a Tomy tram chasis under a GVT body and there was pleanty of room. We use DZ125/DZ126 chips, limited function, but tiny. I have one under a Nonminstre Hudson Hunslet footplate with the spud and room to spare, but not much! Leigh

I have recently been painting a kit built by a mach smarter modeller than me. The brake gear was assembled off the rods underneath made from slightly springy material, with pins/rod at the top of the hangers. Adding removing is just a case of easing the pins out of holes and popping it off the bottom. So similar to the above suggestion, but rather than removal pins they are all in place and use the rods to hold it in place under tension. Not sure how well would work on 7mm and this was 7mm, but narrow gauge so small gauge and wheelbase. Hope that makes sense. Leigh P.S. The glass fibre replacements I got are expo ones so look like they are pre glued.

Sorry to change the subject, earlier when you were doing some weathering on some wagons you mentioned soaking glass fibre refills in PVA. How do you go about this so you dont stick them to anything else, and do you use neat PVA or thinned? Thanks Leigh

Thanks Dave. I may need to try building my own chassis. Built bodies I like, but based on 00 chasis as a cheap starter and now convinved was false economy as they just don't look right. Leigh (a.k.a Fettster)

I am coming to Basingstoke, primarily to see Dock Green again and have a better look than I managed at Warley (also to see Pempoul). Look forward to seeing it again. With your chained load, could you tighten it and use some artificial fixing on one side, and always run it with the authentic attachments to the viewer side? Of course this would mean you can see the false side from the operator position. Leigh

Hi Chaz, Walls looks good, Can we have a tutorial please?. I will need to do the same to my warehouses on my quayside narrow gauge layout when they get built. For the board join, could you split the main fence posts in two down the centre and have a set of half posts and wires that slot in, held to the in place half with some small rare earth magnets if required. Like this crude sketch tries to explain! Leigh

Hi Chaz, certainly doesn't read like a rant to me. Valid criticism is great, but as you say we all make compromises to get a layout made to our skill level. Yours already looks amazing. So back to 23rd November, where will I need to be? Leigh

Fantastic layout chaz. Discovered today and spent a pleasant evening catching up. Especially impressed by the cobbles as I plan to do something similar on my layout, but covering a bigger area so may need to find a different method, Long forward to seeing how you go about dirtying up the structures.
