  1. The Andrew Barclay archive is held at the University of Glasgow http://www.gla.ac.uk/services/archives/news/dunaskinnews200207/bringinghomethebarclay/ http://cheshire.cent.gla.ac.uk/ead/search?operation=search&fieldidx1=bath.corporateName&fieldrel1=exact&fieldcont1=hunslet-barclay%20ltd,%20locomotive%20builders%20and%20mechanical%20engineers .
  2. All Many thanks for all your help with this - and in particular GrandadBob for deleting the offending item which means that I have now been able to get to the end of page 11. After #292 I'm sure there'll be some comment about the settings on my computer . . . . . . . . . . . .
  3. I have been following this topic since day 1 but I have had to miss every posting on page 11 - for some reason there is something on that page which causes my PC to crash and reload Explorer every time I try to go there - now we have moved to page 12 it's all working fine again. All very odd and I wondered if anyone else had experienced this - reported to Andy a few days ago and as advised, I cleared History, Temporary Files and Cookies but as soon as I tried to view page 11 it went off again ! Pleased to see we have now reached page 12 and I can try and catch up again - I'll try page 11 on the laptop or at work sometime . . . >
  4. Nothing to worry about, that's just Andy trying to get a bit of peace and quiet after all the trauma of losing Kenton
  5. A lot more information in the book by David Voice For Sale here http://www.transportdiversions.com/publicationshow.asp?pubid=9114 (at a discount for Christmas!) Review by Phil Parker here http://philsworkbench.blogspot.co.uk/2013/01/book-review-mono-rail-by-david-voice.html .
  6. I was going to comment on that being unusual but they also closed a small Derby store when they opened a bigger one a couple of miles away - then Aldi bought the empty building and extended it, plus opening near the new Lidl and another on the other side of town so we have plenty of choice for Aldi specials ! .
  7. To make sure you get a smooth finish to the top/bottom of the box, put a thin piece of plasticard over the mould and squeeze out any excess resin. Phil Traxson of Port Wynnstay does this every time and all his castings are very thin and clean without the need to level them off. He has some sort of clear sheet that the resin doesn't stick to Mike
  8. Have you got a job for me John - you seem to have taken several staff from Derby over the past few years, Mary, Fiona, Chris and now Keith - makes me wonder who's next . . !! .
  9. I know what you mean and this is the only one I follow - if you have time look back at the other stock and the layout - should keep you occupied for an hour or two reading that ! .

    Oh dear - sorry to hear that . . . . . . . . . . .
  11. There is now another Baldwin under construction - see here http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/blog/1344/entry-15228-bgm-4-short/ .

Have you seen the one David Taylor completed. Starts here http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/35253-dlts-ng-workbench-upgrading-some-old-wagons/page-8&do=findComment&comment=1300139
  13. . . . . or when you will announce the next 7mm loco . . . . . . . . ? .
  14. I think Mr K might be a little busy with the imminent arrival of 500 Hudswell Clarkes as described here http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/80426-cwm-bach-a-south-wales-branch-line/page-26&do=findComment&comment=1677035 This must be the best selling 7mm loco ever - unless anyone knows how many tinplate locos the original Hornby company produced I also think it's about time we were told about the new Ixion loco being produced in partnership with someone else - there were a lot of announcements at the NEC last weekend but I didn't pick up any hints from anyone . . . . . . . . . .
  15. Surprised that no one has commented yet on the beautifully decorated yellow Terrier (Brighton) that was on display at the NEC Photos in post #260 on this page http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/92766-news-from-warley-2014/page-11 .
  16. I remember the old Club - we had our wedding reception there, 4th February 1978 after getting married at St Wulframs - it rained all day ! Wife's Grandfather was George Craft who worked at the station. .
  17. That's a coincidence - see here for a very similar project just starting in Derby http://wwwinterltd.blogspot.co.uk/ .
  18. Very nice work John Here in the UK, I help a friend with a trade stand at narrow gauge shows and we had a customer who bought some coach parts as he thought they were about the right size for WCP Coaches - I have no idea if they turned out to be accurate or not but he thought they were near enough to give it a try. See here for information. http://www.ngtrains.com/Pages/San_Juan/Coaches/coach_parts.html Of course it would be best for you to find a local supplier or go direct http://www.sanjuancarco.com/on3-parts-and-miscellaneous/ Hope that helps .
  19. When my son was in a large shared house at University, the landlord was showing around two girls as prospective tenants - his comment was " Oh good - a cooker and a washer " . . . . . . . for some reason they didn't come back and it remained an all male household . . . . ! .
  20. All this talk of dentists - I hope none of you were clients of Mr John Hammond of Loughborough - not only a dentist and founder of the local Rotary Club but also the former owner of Skytrex, well know suppliers of 7mm stock, buildings and accessories. He went bankrupt owing between £6 - £8 million . . . . . . . . http://www.loughboroughecho.net/news/local-news/dentist-dr-john-hammond-been-6132789 http://tinfoilskies.blogspot.co.uk/2014/01/dont-be-scared-ive-done-this-before.html I understand that some employees took on the business and so the current Skytrex is not legally connected to him - perhaps they should have started up again under a different name. I won't say more as I believe there may be a court case . . . . . . . .
  21. Ixion have made it pay with their On30 'Coffee-Pot' based on an obscure Australian prototype where I understand the production run was 1000 followed by 1500 Hudswell Clarkes which have almost all gone and a re run in a different delivery is on its way. Perhaps Heljan (and Peco) are hoping to cash in on visitors to Woody Bay in the way that 'Coffee-Pot' sales were boosted by the fact that one is preserved and some sales were to tourists - but then again the same could be said for the K Class MMI locos - perhaps they were just too big and too expensive. I remember Paul Martin (EDM) saying that the recession hit the USA harder than the UK and many proposed developments from a number of manufacturers never happened. .
  22. The Tower of London Poppies were originally created by a local artist here in Derby and so we get a lot of local coverage as well as the more recent national press and TV reports. I realise that this is an act of Remembrance but many seem to treat it as a 'Celebration' - why on earth would we want to celebrate the start of a war ! If we have this amount of fuss, publicity and commemoration now it really makes me wonder how we can do more to mark 100 years since the end of the war in 2018 ! DDs mention of traffic stopping reminds me of a visit to Israel with work about 10 years ago when it was their 'Memorial Day'. We were in the office next to a 6 lane highway intersection with a major motorway on the outskirts of Tel Aviv and at the appointed hour (can't recall if it was noon?) the air raid sirens went off and the whole of the main road and the motorway came to a stop and everyone got out of their cars for the silence. Normally you can't hear yourself think as there is so much traffic, sirens, accidents and just general noise - then total silence. Couple of minutes later it was back to chaos again . . . of course there almost every family has lost a loved one in the Holocaust, War of Independence, the many conflicts since and as a result of suicide bombings which were at their height at the time of our visits. .
  23. Been lurking around here for a while and thought it was about time I made a contribution. First time flying was a 5 minute trip in a Westland Wessex when in school cadet force around 1970 at Warcop in Cumbria. We all piled in and had a quick trip up a valley then he banked over onto the side to turn and go back down - guess who was next to the wide open door with just a lap strap ! Business flights include 7 visits to Israel - flights were normal but security was 'interesting' Mention of executive travel above reminds me of a trip to Botswana via Johannesberg - boss was entitled to Business but he said to book 'Premium Economy' for all 5 of us but by the time we had got agreement from Finance all the seats had gone so he travelled in the back with the rest of us. Most recent was to Malaysia via Dubai on a visit to the Royal Malaysia Police. We were told we would be met at the airport which usually means in the arrivals area by a bloke with a sign - not this time as we were all identified as we stepped off the plane and taken to one side by several uniformed officers so everyone else thought we were being arrested. Passports were collected and we were led through the airport with police and airport security clearing the way for us. Those who have been to KL will know there is a 'tram' system that takes you under the runway - they had a compartment reserved and held the tram until we were ready and then immediately set off. Didn't see passport control or our luggage but were taken to a couple of luxury people carriers in a no parking area surrounded by police bikes, a couple of cars and a van for the bags. Set off down the motorway at a rapid pace with the motorcyclists leading and clearing the way - as we arrived into KL they stopped the traffic at every junction and we passed many red lights. We got the same treatment for the 3 days we were there - made us all feel rather important and I was just there to take notes and write a report at the end . . . . . . .
  24. Many of us use the 'View New Content' facility which means that we can see every new posting since our last visit regardless of which section it is in - in fact I never go looking into each category, I just use VNC every time. Of course this means that I see a lot of rubbish and it has to be a noticeable title to create a bit of interest to make me click on it to see what the actual content is. .
  25. I must admit that I haven't been there for some time and so I'm not up to date but the Silk Mill was closed for some time due to lack of funding but all of the Derby Museums are now run by a Trust rather than the City Council http://www.derbymuseums.org/thesilkmill/ The Silk Mill also houses the Midland Railway Study Centre http://www.midlandrailwaystudycentre.org.uk/index.html The following is a quote I found on their website here dated Sept 2013 http://www.midlandrailwaystudycentre.org.uk/news.htm Another Google search found this entry which also indicates the layout is still there http://www.heritageopendays.org.uk/directory/midland-railway-study-centreopen-day I know that up to a couple of years ago when it first closed, David Wright of Dovedale Models was regularly providing buildings for the layout and some recent photos can be seen here - however they say a scale of 1:32 which is rather confusing unless it if for a separate static display ? ? http://www.dovedalemodels.co.uk/buildings-for-derby-industrial-museum-model-railway/ If no one else replies, I'll ask at the Club on Tuesday to see if anyone has been recently Hope that helps Mike .
