  1. Details are also available on the UKModelShop Directory - last updated in Feb this year http://www.ukmodelshops.co.uk/county/clubs/Kent .
  2. Chris has confirmed that Ixion are not involved with either OxfordRail or Austrains - so that narrows it down a bit See here (post #13) http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/91104-new-ixion-ho-loco-revealed-nswgr-low-frame-32-class/ .
  3. Good work Chris - how long before we see these castings for sale under the Ixion name - although you have a long way to go to get ahead of Skytrex - apart from quality (and price) of locos that is . . . . . . ! . .
  4. Are you talking about the weather or the pie? Reminds me of my first visit 'up North' to a 7mmNGA Members' Day in Bradford where we were promised "Pie'n'peas" which turned out to be a hot Pork Pie rather than the Steak and Kidney or Chicken and Mushroom etc that I was expecting. The organiser has now seen the error of his ways and now offers 'Snake and Pigmy' as an alternative . . . . .
  5. Guess what - it's wet, windy and cold here as well so you'll feel at home - if they have the heating on! From my Ivory Tower overlooking the City I can still see the Cathedral and the Jurys Inn Hotel so there is some visibility - on a good day we can see the control tower at East Midlands on the horizon - no chance of that today ! .
  6. One thing to watch out for is the size of some On30 stock - although a slightly smaller scale (1/48 and not 1/43) the big Bachmann locos and the bogie wagons and coaches are actually much bigger than most of the stock Martin uses - tight curves could be a problem and you should plan carefully before going too far. Hope that helps. .
  7. She must be an American - if she was British she would be 1/43.5 and not 1/48 - although a slight tweak to the drawing would get the machine to make a building of the right size ! .
  8. Not quite true as the Quality Assurance Agency undertake regular audits of all institutions with degree awarding powers as well as colleges that offer HE provision in partnership with a university http://www.qaa.ac.uk/about-us If you want to see the latest report on your own institution, copies of all reports are published here http://www.qaa.ac.uk/reviews-and-reports .
  9. Apologies for bringing this discussion around to model railways, but years ago in the mid 80s we were setting up for the Derby Exhibition and unloading our van at the back of the Assembly Rooms when a group of girls came taking photos and asking us to pose by the side of the van - then Bob Geldof and others turned up in a big motorhome and parked next to us. The Boomtown Rats were performing that night in the main hall and we had to direct him to the stage door which was at the other end of the building ! That was probably the last year we only used the small hall and the show expanded to fill the whole building until we couldn't afford to go there - then 5 years in Moorways Sports Centre but now that's being altered so next year we are pleased to be going to the Derby Roundhouse - an amazing location with so much railway history next to the station http://roundhouse-events.co.uk/ Mike .
  10. Jock - The Compendium was a separate publication - a bit like an annual but only published in 1988, 1994, and 1997 with similar articles to the magazine - but more of them. Details here http://www.modelrailwayjournal.com/compendium.php?s=3 Mike .
  11. It is a new magazine, quarterly by subscription (and a few retailers) but not on the High Street. Edited by Bob Barlow and Tim Shackleton who have both been heavily involved in Model Railway Journal in the past. In full colour too - although there is now colour in MRJ I find some of their B&W photos a bit depressing Reviews in this topic http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/90724-finescale-railway-modelling-review-issue-1-autumn-2014/ Information and order form here http://www.greystarpublications.com/fsr/ .
  12. Goodwood part 2 This time a link to Popular Classics - all the photos are from 'outside' the event itself as the photographer didn't have a ticket !! http://popularclassics.forumcircle.com/viewtopic.php?t=21939&highlight=& .
  13. Thanks - been there for the past five or six years with my youngest in his 1978 bog standard 998cc but this was the weekend his elder brother decided to get married and so we missed the show. Went to Uttoxeter two weeks before and I was disappointed with the trade attendance - that's what we go for rather than just look at cars that have arrived on trailers and been polished to within an inch of their life - a car is to be driven not a highly polished ornament ! .
  14. Goodwood Revival There is a great set of pictures on the Practically Classics Forum here http://practicallyclassics.phpbbhosts.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=5597 Enjoy - I know I did and one day I would really like to be there - looks like great fun . . . Mike .

    I Survived!

Most impressive - I'm glad it all worked out in the end for you - even if there were a few minor issues . . . . . . What other shows do you have planned? Mike
  16. I think Ixion have proved that argument to be wrong with sales of well over 1000 Hudswell Clarkes - so they are re-running that loco in another livery, planning a limited run of the Manning Wardle and are getting ready for a mystery steam loco - hardly evidence that there isn't a market for ready to run. I wasn't very involved in 7mm at the time of the Bachmann stock but wasn't it all unpainted brass? - if so that's what would have stopped me from buying anything. .
  17. I guess the sun will always be shining in that part of Ancaster . . . . . . . . . . .
  18. Thanks Andy - by the time I tried to correct the link you had already done it . . . !
  19. Whilst I appreciate many will be disappointed if they don't get what they want, don't forget that you can remember Dave in a different way by making a donation to the collection site that Andy set up - he put full details in the Obituary topic last month (post #112 on 26 August) http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/89221-david-tetleys-shakespeare/?p=1565592 This is a direct link to "Just Giving" - https://www.justgiving.com/TetleysMills/ I realise that some will have made donations direct to Cancer Research, but I should have thought that a few more would have responded .
  20. No - that would have been "Chard Creamery" (layout number 9) which was only 7ft 6ins and so half the length of Dock Green. Nice to see the Maroon Ixion Fowler on the bridge which came from EDM - we sent several potential customers to have a look ! See this topic (post #180) http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/78328-ixion-0-gauge-fowler-diesel-loco/page-8 .
  21. This was discussed in post #21 on the first page (copied below) .
  22. Personal donations can be made to the "Just Giving" charity site that Andy has set up - full details are in the Obituary topic here (post #112 on 26 August) http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/89221-david-tetleys-shakespeare/page-5 Link direct to the "Just Giving" site https://www.justgiving.com/TetleysMills/ Whilst I appreciate that some may have made charitable donations direct to Cancer Research, it is a little disappointing to see that only 16 have responded so far to Andy's appeal . . . . . . . .
  23. I was responding to the posting from JJB1970 which is why I quoted the extract from what he had said. As we are in a topic about the Terrier, I was also talking about ready to run locos - I appreciate all you say about buying second hand built up wagon kits as I have several but I saw Ixion as a way to make a start with a small loco - personally there is nothing produced by Heljan that is of interest to me and I have no idea how many they have sold - at least Chris Klein of Ixion is very open about their business and the number of models sold.
  24. Well it's certainly working for Ixion who have sold over 1000 Hudswell Clarke locos and have announced that they are producing more (in a different green livery), they have another steam loco in the planning stages and may also do a re-run of the Manning Wardle as well. Affordable ready to run is already growing the hobby - not everyone wants to be a kit builder or can afford to buy kit built stock as an alternative to what's available off the shelf - even if some of it doesn't pass the rivet counters test! .
  25. I have been away for a couple of weeks and have only just caught up with this sad news and there is nothing I can add to what has already been said by others who knew Dave better than I did. Being a Grantham lad, I had responded to a couple of his postings and I liked the way he signed many as "XYZ of Ancaster" reflecting his mood or feelings at that time. By coincidence I grew up on Harrowby Road only a few hundred yards from the Cemetery - my elderly parents still live there and I remember the Crematorium being built (1966)! Donation made (Phil I used Paypal) Mike
