  1. Warsaw, (who later became Joy Division) and Unknown pleasures. The bleakness seems to fit well with the sea of BR blue that's currently sat on my layout!
  2. The trouble isn't with the coverage Phil, it's that those stripes have a physical ridge to them, so will continue to show as stripes in the blue. I remember when Modelzone also had 47612 Titan for sale at £50, but as this (in old I/C livery) would provide the same problems, my second Titan became 515 night mail in the same livery.
  3. Good luck with that Matt, be careful as the lines of those stripes may well show through after you've sprayed it blue.
  4. I have one of these shells as well, mine became 825 using a chassis from D1547. The headlight had to wired up to work, and you'll need to change the boiler port- although I forgot about this until after the loco had been weathered... Yes, I did swear! To answer your question Sean, speak to Brian at Shawplan and ask him for a pack of boiler blanking plates, catalogue number EEDP47-15. They come with both flavours (round and square) for the different types of boiler. If the body has been fitted with a moulded blanking plate you'll need to shave off the moulding and then replace with the correct type to suit your loco. Hope that was of some use. Cheers Murray.
  5. I bought my first one at full price when they were released, but when they became £50 I snapped a few more up! A body shell or two may have been swapped over and boiler port plates changed to suit, but these are all on former 47972 chassis- not the greatest picture, but you get the idea. Locos are 47222 Appleby-Frodingham, 47380 Immingham, 47596 Aldeburgh Festival and 47579 James Nightall G.C.
  6. There's been some interesting post so far as to peoples experiences with the new Forty some of which I have had myself, so I thought I share mine. Although I run DC I have and I run DCC locos without a problem, so I decided to run in the loco straight from the box. I would normally run in a loco at 50% power, but nothing seemed to happen until I applied around 70% power. The loco seemed to run slower than I would expect, but I put this down to a combination of it being new and the chip. The loco needing a nudge of encouragement at one point on it's first lap. The motor also sounded 'growly' or rough, reminiscent of my first Peak 44 (008). After around 5 minutes I experienced the same phenomenon as JLC, whereby the loco hit a set of point, stopped, then started to travel in reverse. Having had enough of these fun and games, I decided to remove the chip and fit the blanking plate- and guess what? It works fine now! Running at a normal speed and no stuttering or stopping (so far...)
  7. Mine's also in the post. I'm still not sure which one to go for when it arrives, but 127 looks interesting.
  8. Mouldy old dough. (The only UK number 1 to feature a mother and son playing at the same time I belive...)

Nigel Fletcher & Rob Woodward of Lieutant Pigeon spent 1974 (IIRC) recording Western's on the Western Region. One, I can't remember which had at least one article published in 'Traction' regarding his 'bashing' exploits.

  9. I don't mean to teach you to suck eggs, but it might be as well to strip back some of that yellow. Else when you spray on the next coat as well as risking the loss of detail, you may well end up with a prominent demarcation line where the first coat went on- (which with me would lead to more swearing!!) Like you say, fingers crossed. Murray.
  10. Oops! You needed that to happen like a hole in the head Phil! Which masking tape do you use? I use Tamiya, which is usually pretty good.
  11. It's all over now- The Rolling Stones.
  12. Nooooo!!! Here's four of my peaks reworked from the Bachmann 45053/120. Not my work I regret to add, but that of a friend of mine. In numerical order you have 45s 059, 103, 105 and 122.
  13. The 'Christmas train' with its 'pretty lights' is now on the layout for my wife (DELTIC with 10 matchboard Pullmans) so now everyone's happy in my house! Happy Christmas to all RMwebbers.

  14. Track cleaning- should it repace ASBOs?

  15. If your post was in response to mine then I think that you may have misunderstood me bigherb, as I was after a new class 31 as a replacement not the old one back! When I sent off my 270 to be replaced it was returned with the old body and that's what I wanted with this one as well, as the grills etc. are to be used in a project. To update from my post #489 I phoned up Hornby and spoke to Tanya Garrett, explaining the situation and that the discount code that they gave me wasn't working. As the only 31 in stock was the green one I decided that I'd rather have a class 60 instead which was £109.99 on their site in the sale. She then took my order over the phone and a new Tata steel class 60 arrived in the post this morning. (Which will soon be turning triple grey!) I was told that I could have my old 110 body back, and this should arrive shortly, so I'm a happy bunny- although I still need another class 31 without the cowls for my 31327 project! Edited for typo.
  16. I knew I kept that pot of Ford Imperial blue for a reason- but now that I need it can I find it?!

    1. Grafarman

      Grafarman

Of course not; it'll reappear once you no longer need it!

Are you respraying a Ford Anglia?

  17. I returned my Dutch 110 to Hornby asking specifically in the letter to have the body returned (as I need the grills and glass) and that any replacement class 31 was preferred to a voucher. Guess what? I have a discount code and no body shell. To add insult to injury, I tried to use my discount code to buy another loco from their sale and the code doesn't seem to work when I apply it. I then tried to phone them up, but instead of a person, I got a recorded message telling me that they closed at 1pm on Fridays. If the sale is finished by the time I manage to get hold of them I hope they'll honour the sale price- if the loco I want is still in stock!
  18. Four more peaks about to undergo phase one of their transformation.. If I get many more I'll have to re-name my layout Tinsley!

It's a corruption from the lyrics of a dance track- eat sleep, dance repeat. And I'm working nights, so in this instance yes!

      Eat sleep model repeat....

  20. So was he the original fat controller?- with his model of 'North Minehead'
  21. It wasn't all one sided, as I remember reading of an allied fighter, as witnessed by his wingman (I can't remember if it was RAF or American) that attacked a train which happened to be carrying ordnance, (V1s I seem to remember). The train blew up, as did the strafing fighter. So severe was the explosion that no trace was found of the fighter... Such is war.
  22. Her mind is Tiffany twisted, she got the Mercedes Bends. (Sorry guys edited because I could have sworn it was Benz)
  23. Diesel?!!! Any self respecting Spartan should have the 4.2 litre Jag engine... By the way, what's the cam? Looks like it came straight from BATUS...
