Couple of hours today so measured up where the bridge will go on the board and took a better look at the weathered track, the oil seems to of not disappeared once sealed which is good, I then cracked on with more brickwork. Doesn’t seem like I’ve done much but it was great to finally get some modelling done.

Had a weeks leave but hardly any modelling done due the mrs having some really bad virus and half term, so if I wasn’t being daddy daycare I was being Nurse Owens!
I have managed to measure up the road and cut the base out using thick card, this will be built up with the roadbed and pavement. I’ve also ordered street lights so hopefully I can crack on next week.
I also plonked the brickwork onto the board roughy into position just to see how it will look.

Don’t worry any diesel depot layout ideas are way in the future, ELJ will have to be at least 90% complete before I even think about anything like that.

It’ll be good to see it develop. It’s good to use a modular approach, like the one I stumbled across quite by chance over the last couple of years, as you get an (almost) finished section to enjoy whilst you work on the next section and so on. I find it easier to visualise the track plan with full size printouts of points, which doesn’t look a million miles from what you’re doing too.
I wonder about adding a fueling point to the diesel depot end of mine and having a go at the trackage, albeit in four foot one and a half inch gauge!
I think a fuelling point certainly adds an extra dimension with operational potential but then you need to make space for fuel storage tanks etc.
I’ve got a track plan in mind which is based on the idea of a old two road steam shed/goods depot converted to a diesel serving point, but I’m wondering would a stabling point with a few old office buildings fit in better 🤷🏻♂️
Either way at least I know what I’m doing with ELJ at long last!

Aah, great stuff! You’ve taken the plunge. What will you do with the OO layout, re do the track on it?
Cheers mate it’s been stripped of what I could salvage, which wasn’t really much, I’ve got quite a bit of un-used C&L flexi which I need to sell along with a few other bits, the boards I’ll reuse as I still want some sort of servicing/stabling point layout but it will become part of ELJ as a kind of stand alone add on. I’ve got a rough track plan in mind but I want to get all the track and boards complete on ELJ before I start on that and surprise surprise it will be called either Edge Lane stabling or servicing point but it will be a max of 8’ in length.
Thanks again

Thanks Lez 😃👍🏼

Not really much to report as it’s been the first week of hand term so if I wasn’t in work I was entertaining a poorly six year old, I have managed to do a tiny bit on the bridge though and I’ve ordered a ground position signal from Absolute Aspects which will protect the trailing cross over, not sure whether to just use a cheap on/on switch or maybe push the boat out and try one of those Dcc concepts S levers 🤔
Anyway here’s what little progress I’ve made on the bridge

Paul, where are you getting your supplies from CL or from one of the scale organisations? Any recommendations? I really don't mind how long it takes- next day, next week, next month, but I have to try and organise delivery for the day(s) where I happen to be home, which is not very often.
Hi-jack away Derek it’s all very interesting and informative stuff so don’t worry at all.
I get all my components from the EM gauge society, very easy to order and normally arrive within a day or two, it’s great service and do the full range of Exactoscale chairs.

Once you have threaded the first it forms a platform of the same height, I just find it easier to use, plus it is attached to the sprue which also makes it easier to thread
That sounds far easier I’ll definitely be giving it a go John, a new batch of chairs and rail arrived yesterday so I’ll be cracking on with my track building next week hopefully.

As Paul has said prepare the rail ends by removing all burrs especially in the web between the foot and head
I leave the chairs on the sprue to thread the rail on, but this is my preference. Simply use the method you find the easiest
I’ve not tried threading the chairs whilst still on the sprue so I’ll try that next time I’m threading as it would be good to compare the two methods.

Morning everyone I’m a bit late to the party sorry (not like you to argue with anyone Derek 😉🤭)
I file one end of the rail to a point then thread the chairs onto the rail, here’s a video I did a while back.
Hope this helps

@PjKing1you won't fail. Your work just gets better and better. Your scenery and weathering was always good and it seems your technical skills have caught up. In the same time I've done SFA.
No Kings Cross. It's too big and with no starting point. Whitby can at least be built in stages- station, stable etc and each be a layout in its own right. Though this time I'm going to keep it simple. No S4, just standard P4, no clever tricks that I was trying just the tried and tested systems.
Paul, what do you think to plastic Vs wooden sleepers/ timbers? I am really against mixing the two. But if I can use plastic based lengths rather than individual sleepers and chairs, then it makes it much more likely I'll DO something. Thanks Derek much appreciated at always 👍🏼 as for sleepers I personally prefer using wooden but that’s just my preference, I think fit straight runs, normal track etc using flexi is fine, the only reason I haven’t is the fact it’s on my a small layout so I thought I may as well hand build what little track I have.
Please start something though Derek as we’ve been waiting to long!
Cheers

Good God- bits keep arriving in the post? That's well and truly broken then.
Awkward, isn't it? I stood on a dog biscuit of all things, which caused my toe to fold in such a way nature never intended and crack... it's not so funny, is it... well not when it happens to you.
BTW Paul- those checkrail chairs- are you back to standard 00? If so then you might want to look at those chairs as they're 0.8mm gap rather than 1.0mm required for 00.
Derek
Morning Derek good to have you back sir, ‘this week Mathew I’m EM gauge’ but don’t worry I’m sticking with it and if this fails I’ll be walking away from model railway don’t you worry!
Hows KX coming along or have you give up on that mate?

Funny …. I’ve got one just like that too! But ordered anotherI was going for green syp but just couldn’t say no to D6992, third time lucky 😉

At last D6992 and I don’t have to do anything to it! I’ve modelled this loco in 4mm using a Bachmann then again in 7mm so I had to order one.
Bachmann
7mm (which is up for grabs if anyone waves it 😉)

Phosphor bronze has a more orangy colour so you can keep the rail heads clean and Marcway do it.
Didn’t know that I just get all my rail from the EM gauge society

Edge Lane Junction EM gauge

A bit more on the pavements tonight but nothing worth warranting a photo, lack of decent modelling time has hampered the track building which is rather frustrating as I’ve got all the chairs etc waiting to go. I was hoping to get a good few hours Thursday but the schools on strike so that day is written off so I’m hoping Friday might see things continue. Once I get all the point blades made up and fixed into position I really need to build the frame work for the first board then things can really crack on as the ground position signal is in production so will hopefully arrive soon and I can get all the ballast down etc along with scenics.
Hopefully some proper updates soon.
