  1. Well in an attempt to get a few things ready for the Wigan exhibition, I have managed to cobble together at least one example of the principle Moguls the LMS operated. The Stanier mogul still needs a fair bit of detailing, but may make an appearance at the show, maybe, if all goes well
  2. Even the LNER had too many LNER locomotives
  3. With my ham fisted approach, do you think I will ever achieve a smidgeon of weathering
  4. Very sensible advice, but you know me....... what do you mean you may have to get round to finishing the kit, YOU MEAN AS A MODELLER YOU HAVE UNFINISHED PROJECTS... Shame on you, at this rate you will end up as bad as me.
  5. I guess I better do some research on the MOS livery, as I really want to add one of these locomotives to the fleet, but I think I have too many LNER locomotives already
  6. I'm finding it very hard not to crack on with the kit, but I have loads to do to get ready for the Wigan exhibition. I like the idea of it in LNWR lined black, but I think LMS unlined black may be the winner I really need to give my flat iron a bit of attention, the trailing bogie is winding me up/
  7. I know the LNER took a few Austerity 2-8-0s into stock, but did the LMS? Im looking for justification to add one to my stock, but don't fancy adding another LNER loco to my fleet
  8. Should I get a Longmoor train pack and paint the loco black?

    1. Barry O
    2. Worsdell forever

      Worsdell forever

I see a blue loco and want to...

  9. Should I get a Longmoor train pack and paint the loco black?

  10. I was given a kit for a round firebox G1/2 by our club chairman a couple of weeks ago, which could be painted in LMS plain black, like a really useful loco. BUT how many do you see in LNWR lined condition......I REALLY THINK I MIGHT BE GOING MAD
  11. Well the Jubilee has now received her number, and is still waiting for her nameplates, I need to place a large order. There are still a few little areas to work on and finish, but she runs well and will soon join the fleet in time for the Wigan show. One thing is for certain she will not be this clean, as she needs a little grot applying to her, I mean I have to don't I? My Stanier Mogul is progressing slowly, I replaced the original tender I built with a better one straight of the production line, and I have even managed slightly better lining on this one. There is still a lot to do on this model, looking at the picture I think I need to lower her a little more on her chassis, I think I will need to adapt the motion more. Again she will need a little weathering to at least hide some of the lining, and then she can take her place with the rest of the LMS moguls in the fleet.
  12. Mad me, as if, eccentric maybe. Thanks for the comment on the lining if I can do it anyone can, I think I need to lower the Mogul on her chassis a bit. As for a post-war layout I think you should have a go, join my madness, there are not a lot of us around.
  13. Well I'm not sure what the active service levels of the Southern Railways Terriers was like, but I bet its better than the activity of our two Terriers. Having suffered the indignity of being woken up from 10 hours overnight sleep to be given a nice breakfast including a cup of milky tea (which is more than I get), the terrible physical demands of eating made them plonk themselves on my knee for a nap. I think this is the result of training from the Domestics Overlord in an attempt to put a stop to my modelling ambitions, but even with 3 of them plotting against me now, but I will prevail. To prove the point I managed to spend a little time getting some of the locomotives on the workbench closer to completion. First to get some attention was my second Jubilee in post-war black. I have to say it, but this is becoming my favourite livery applied to Jubilee's but its deceptively simple and can be a real pain to apply. Thankfully I don't have to worry about my shaking hands messing up the lining on this one too much now as I have got her fully lined. I even managed to decide upon a number and name for her, New Zealand, obviously chosen because of my love of Rugger, and nothing to me referring to the Domestic Overlord, as a Hobbit Anyway this will be the last time she will be seen in such a clean state, as she will soon receive a coat of weathering, in an attempt to hide some of the worst of the lining. I also need to order her plates, from Modelmasters, I get the feeling this will not be cheap, as I have 9 other locomotives still waiting for plates. In an attempt to take my mind of the pending pains to my wallet, I decided to start the first stages of detailing an Evilbay bargain purchase of a Farish Crab. So far all I have managed to do is give the chassis an quick overhaul, re-number her, remove her moulded coal in the tender and add glazing. I really must stop adding bargains like this to the fleet, as it just eats up valuable modelling time, but as my Sister has been known to remark "its rude not to buy a bargain", or "rude to pass a shop with a sale on", the dotty old moo :0 The most progress I have made is on my attempt to produce a Stanier Mogul, the original tender I knocked together for her, just did not satisfy me and the lining was not the best. So I knocked together another tender and made a bit of a better job of the lining. I still have a few little (when I say few I mean lots) jobs to complete on her, and then a spot of weathering and she maybe able to join the fleet in time for the Wigan exhibition. Rather worrying is that this means I will a model of all the principle LMS moguls, this is not good I could soon run out of loco's to model, this could lead to none LMS types joining my fleet.........NOT GOOD Until next time as ever Happy Modelling
  14. Maybe the next layout in the planning stage might be in a more modern timescale, hang on what am I saying, what about all my Steamers. You are a very bad influence on me

    Crosti 9F

Looking good, certainly taking a model to the next level
  16. I just need to decide on what number to apply, and of course the LMS branding, and glazing and crew but then I will have another Jubilee in the fleet. The problem is what to name her.
  17. Well my Stanier Mogul is slowly progressing through the works, her lining is nearly complete, and then I can apply her number and branding, making progress is not good, surely this can be what modelling is about.
  18. brilliant, your even tempting me to get some none steam stock
  19. Yes they are two little Jack Russell girls. The mogul is certainly turning into a epic project, as for commissions thanks for the comments but trust me there are far better modellers than me out there.
  20. They are certainly a lively pair, when they are not sleeping that is, the nearly sleep as much as the Domestic Overlord, not that I am complaining I like the peace (only joking). Its one of my favourite liveries too, so far I have 2 Semi Duchesses in it, 2 Jubes, 2 Rebuilt Scots and a Parallel Scot in the livery, I think that is more than enough.
  21. The layout will be at the Wigan show at the end of the month - Time to PANIC
  22. Well as hard LMS fan, I think I may have suffered a major head injury, as I have recently added two Terriers to the fleet. The injury must have been really bad, as you will see from the results below, it's worst than actually owning the Southern loco's. The new additions have certainly added a bit of life to the household, and at 11 weeks they have already established themselves in the running order. As a result modelling time has been in very very short supply, what I have managed to do is get the Post-War black Jubilee fully lined, and ready for the finishing details to be added. The problem is I cannot decide on a number or name for her. After all that lining, and shaking hands I swore I would not do any more for a while, but then I remembered that I still had to my Stanier Mogul to line. The lining is nearly complete but I swear once this loco has been completed, I will definitely take a break from more lining. You can see the effects of my shaky hands, but one I have numbered and branded her, I will apply a good coat of grime and hide the worst of it. Now all I need to do is concentrate on unlined black locomotives, I mean what could possibly go wrong. Until next time as ever Happy Modelling
  23. Well progress has been made and its very very scary, thins cant be what railway modelling is all about can it? This should add a little interest to the Black 5 fleet, if only from people saying "why oh why have you done that?" I think this will definitely be my last Jubilee, honest, it will certainly be among the last few loco's I will be lining for a while, in N gauge lining and shaky hands are not a good combination.
  24. Well over the last few days, when ever I could I have managed to spend a little time on the projects clogging up my work bench of DOOM!! The main focus of my attention was supposed to be on the Stanier Mogul and the Class 5 I was attempting to portray with a self weighing tender, but as usual I found other distractions. A while ago I managed to bag from Evil bay a brand new Jubilee for a mere £50, the problem was the nasty manufacturer had decided to shame the poor girl by not only giving her a terrible mouldy green coat, but also a coating of grot. So being the nice chap I am, I decided the least I could do was restore at least some of her dignity. For those of you of a delicate disposition, I suggest you do not look at the picture below too long it is a terrible terrible sight. So naturally, she was bumped to the top of the list in the paint shop, and after a bit of effort, and a battle with shaking hands, she has reached the following state. As you can see there are a few area I need to redo as my shaky hands have meant that some areas need a little re-work, but the majority of the lining is complete. I hate to say it, even though I have a thing for Crimson Jubilee's this livery really suits them (and of course the Duchess and Scots painted this way). I just need to finish off a few outstanding jobs, like the buffer beams, lining the cylinders, glazing the cab, adding a crew and maybe the most important job..WHAT NAME AND NUMBER TO GIVE HER??? The other locomotive that has progressed quite a lot is the Class 5 with a Self weighing tender, she now has her tender ready for coaling up, again all she needs is the buffer beams painting, fitting with a crew and then a little or knowing me a lot of weathering, of and her safety valves adding. So knowing me, it means it will probably be sitting on the workbench for a while yet, still its a step closer to completion , so in theory its still progress. There have been a couple of little problems, though my Stanier mogul, has nearly got one side lined, on the loco and tender, though shaky hands strike again, the lining does not look that bad from usual viewing distances but camera pictures tell another story. The answer might be that from now on I concentrate on loco's that do not need any hand lining, I've always liked plain black, anyway until next time as ever Happy Modelling
