Keep an eye on our website in the coming weeks. We plan to offer our sound file, decoder and the new PCB needed up upgrade the Model Rail versions as a product shortly…
Any update of the new PCB?
I’ve learn that my model got a fault with the 6 pin interface, I’ve tried 2 6 pin decoders, and doesn’t work, I’ve ran the loco in DC to run it in.

Great idea, shame it’s not plug in, I’d take it, it will have to be soldered on the PCB? will there be any more liveries in the coming years?

Morning,
Neither MR-203 or MR-204 come with skirts. The prototype 68225 and 68226 ran as per and although the Wisbech and Upwell required the motion to be covered, 68225 was a regular on the W&U.
The only skirted examples produced by Model Rail/ Rapido in BR livery were MR-202 or MR-205 and these have long since sold out.
The other regular skirted example in BR days on the W&U was 68217 but this had minor detail differences to the ends which I believe isn't catered for by the existing tooling.
All of the original batch produced by Rapido for Model Rail have a six pin decoder and it's only the recent GER locos produced by Rapido for themselves which have a next 18 decoder.
Possibly there will be another run of BR J70s in the future but not sure if these would come from Model Rail or Rapido themselves. Model Rail have recently commisioned the Class 11 and the PWM shunters from Heljan and have the Vale of Reidol tank engines seemingly coming next so they seem quite busy.
So who knows when or from whom any further releases if any, will emerge from but for now, I believe there are no plans for further batches.
Rob.
Many thanks for this. I’ve ordered KMR-203 from kernow model railway, I’m also intending fitting sound eventually, any chance of a close up of the chassis? Do these have a speaker already fitted?

I’m thinking of getting 2 of these locos, does both MR-203 and 204 come with skirts and what DCC interface do they have? Originally they have 6 pin? And the newer locos have next18? Looking to fit a sound chip eventually! I’m also loving the weathering, don’t know if I can do that!

As i said there is no cause for worry. We can also supply an 8 ohm speaker if anyone is unduly concerned 👍
Could you put this accessories page on the website? The consumer could have the choice either a 4ohms or 8 ohms speaker?

Just ordered these in BR maroon, can’t wait, next is to order a J70 in Early BR.

I’m surprised Heljan haven’t contacted the owners of D1705/47117?

No, its how the decoder is working (or not working).
I don't know where Gaugemaster sourced their next18 decoders, but a quick look at their manual suggests its not a very advanced design.Different decoder and it will work - a J72 I did a couple of years ago would run for at least 2 feet without power. I used a Zimo decoder, which is what I guess was used in the Hornby magazine article.
Right O, I’m planning in the future to get an ESU Loksound next18 to fit,

If you tried it, then you'd know whether the stay alive still works.
Well, as soon at the power is removed it stops, so it must be the way the circuit board has been design?

How did you go with the answers from me and Nigel Cliffe?
Yep it all worked but does the stay alive still work though?

Do you have another make of decoder you could try with it, it may well be the decoder. I use exactly those "stay alives" in my locos but mine are 6 pin Zimo with the stay alive attached to pads on the decoder PCB. My locos definitely run on when I turn off the power which is what it is meant to do, but in the right direction. I found out recently there is a CV on a lot of decoders that sets the "time allowed for missing signal", so check the CVs on your device. I am wondering if as it powers down it confuses the last DCC signal as "switch direction" then the "stay alive" does the rest. It might be DC run away though, I have found some decoders are prone to it more than others. I recently bought a different sound decoder ( I normally buy Zimo or Hornby) and was horrified when the loco went shooting backwards when it lost the DCC signal. I have never seen Zimo, LokSound or Hornby do that.
eventually I’m planning to get a loksound next18, for both locos but recently I’ve been looking at locos just because if you don’t get them now, there may never have another batch 👍🏻 -

Most likely explanation is DC-running is enabled in the decoder (CV29). The decoder interprets this as DC, so engages full power in the DC direction. Turn off DC running to deal with the problem.

Thanks for this, does the stay alive still work?

Right, the original booster was to give out 8 amps with the original base station, thanks for all your help, I’m sure it will help 👍🏻

How have you connected the stay-alive?
My guess is that the stay-alive is connected to the track input of the decoder not to the positive and ground - it charges up and when track power is removed the stay-alive is seen as a DC supply……
On the circuit board there are tabs that are for stay alive on the J72 and I have soldered them on, I’ve followed Hornby mags instructions

Hi there,
We had a simillar problem - not due to misuse, but to dropped and run over.
I found this one on Amazon
It''s worked for nearly 2 years without a problem.
Please note - other similar products are also available elsewhere!
