  1. Probably been mentioned before but there are some very nice things on DCC Supplies Dapol Outlet section. In the grade B (Which I have purchased a terrier from in the past and it only needed lamp irons straightening). I spotted a couple of OO Beattie Well tanks, a LMS Steam sentinel, LMS 10001 and Dapol track cleaning cars. https://www.dccsupplies.com/cl-325/Dapol-outlet.htm Hopefully someone can grab a bargain. 2. Due to some missing from a kit I bought I am after 3 of the 7mm scale MR oil type axlebox mouldings ideally the slaters plastic type but if suitable alternatives are available please let me know. Hopefully someone has some left over from a modified kit or something. Please message me if you are able to help. Thanks in advance. OliverSR
  3. If anyone has a BR Green Hornby or Lima Class 73 Loco body in BR Green without any yellow panels in good condition they would be willing to sell please drop me a message. OliverSR
  4. There are kits for the Jubilee stock of which No 353 is. They are available from Mousa Models so that's also a option possibly. http://www.mousa.biz/fourmm/coach/kits/met_coaches4.html#met-jubilee-third OliverSR
  5. For my Corgi conversion I had to make my own couplings because the bogies are too far from the ends for the couplings on the Kato bogies to reach. I used brass wire bent into a bar and hook. I tend to drill into the floor or body of the loco when I attach wire couplings then bend the wires through it before glueing it in place ensuring it's fully anchored in place. It's not the most elegant coupling solution but in N gauge it's not really noticeable and you can decide how far you make the hook depending on the curves it's got to negotiate. Anyway here are some photos I hope they are helpful.OliverSR
  6. I thought I'd start a thread about my various items of N Gauge Underground rolling stock on my Layout Lammas Lane. I purchased the layout ready built with the intention of running a Corgi Underground train I was motorising on it. I intend to try to add 4th rail and a few underground touches eventually. I did cover this conversion on another thread here:http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/42969-corgi-london-underground-tube-carriage-released-1142-scale/?p=2563030 Following my conversion of the corgi underground train into N Gauge 1996 stock I wanted to add to my rolling stock and purchased the excellent N-Train kit for 1959 stock. The kit consists of 3D printed body shells and floors and self adhesive vinyl sides available in multiple liveries. The body shells are painted in a suitable base primer which for me is red and the roofs painted grey. The assembly couldn't be simpler as they are designed to use RTR bogies and the kato ones I opted for clipped straight in with no mods needed and the tomytec chassis recommended was also easy to fit. Then the vinyls are applied and this is the result. All in all a very easy to assemble kit and I'm very pleased with the results. I will hopefully update this thread with any more Projects from me in N Gauge. OliverSR
  7. Following this thread has caused me to look at my unfinished ironside project and subsequently fit the new chassis I had bought for it and then it even got a set of nameplates and now lives in my display cabinet. At least it now looks finished and runs pretty well. Unfortunately I now had a spare Caledonian body left over and this thread is giving me plenty of ideas so now combined with a old L&Y Pug I planned to make a approximate model of the Hawthorn Leslie 0-4-0 Invincible having seen it on the Isle of Wight Railway. I spent a carefree morning with the razor saw then gluing and approximately placing parts and plasticard together and this is the result. It's not going to be a perfect model of the prototype due to the limitations of the chassis but I hope to make something which captures the look and seems right to my eye. A lot of filling, filing and fettling needed before I even start painting but thanks to this thread I've got another project on the go. OliverSR
  8. Back in 2012 I converted a Caledonian Pug into Ex LSWR Ironside and it didn't come out too bad looking for my first project which I was happy with. Unfortunately the chassis was from the 80s and I couldn't tame it so now the body is in a drawer waiting for fitting to a new Hornby railroad chassis which I got cheap which has better running characteristics. OliverSR
  9. For anyone interested here is a comparison. The left one is a Harrow/Radley Kit rebuilt from a old kit by myself and is driven by black beetle motor bogies. The middle is the Heljan model. To the right is a MTK brass kit bought ready made and powered by a triang motor bogie and pickup set. Interesting to see how similar and yet different models of the same class of loco can be. OliverSR
  10. It is very tight at the moment but I plan to test the surface stock I have and probably alter that section to provide more clearance. So far it is tight but it fits...... Just.OliverSR
  11. Lots Road lives on!!!! Hi everyone I would like to introduce myself as the new owner of lots road. Earlier in the year I purchased the layout and it has taken me until now to actually get it set up due to lots of other things going on in life and I have had less time for modeling. The layout is now set up in my loft and I am working on plans for continuing the layout to a slightly different plan that suits me better. For now here are some photos(quick ones taken on my phone so apologies for the quality) of the layout set up in my loft and the first rtr and kitbuilt tube stock that came to hand just to see how it looked though I have quite a bit more stock to play with once the layout is working. So after a journey across the country and a long while sitting around the layout is now standing again and I will be updating this thread with the plans and progress. OliverSR
  12. Here is a suggestion for you. The southern 0756 or 0757 class could be a suggestion for a kit based on the electrotren chassis as it appears similar wheelbase and design and would be of interest to southern modellers such as myself and would also nicely compliment your ironside kit for obscure southern locos. Link for some info on the class: http://www.semgonline.com/steam/PD&SWJR.html OliverSR
  13. Here is my effort and I have slightly modified the boiler fittings but didn't have the conviction to change the cab or the wheels, however it is a reasonable representation of the prototype and is good enough for me. This is the first attempt I have made at lining with single lines on the footplate and front so I still have much room for improvement but this was only meant to be a cheap project. Hope this is of interest to some of you. OliverSR
  14. Having spent some time away from this project I have now returned to it as I hope to have something produced by the acton depot show later this year. I have almost finished work on the van body but require some help. The diagram shows me the locations of roof vents only not what type they are and I can't tell from the photos either. If anyone knows what they are and where I can get castings of them as I will probably just make holes on the roof and add parts after it has been printed, like I did with the BTH loco's buffers. OliverSR
  15. I have not really made any progress with the 14xx as once I tried re-assembling the train its running was not satisfactory and so I have begun dissasembling the chassis but I have since boxed the project away for the time being. I have been doing other modeling however As someone who has an interest in London Underground last year being the 150th anniversary the fictional repaint of a prairie tank loco into LT maroon. Bachmann did release a model of it but since it was at a premium I wasn't considering getting it. At a car boot sale I happened across a Lima Prairie for under a tenner and thought I could get it and repaint it. My efforts may not be as good as Bachmanns but at 10% of the cost their one it was a compromise I could live with happily. Once I had got it home and cleaned it up and got it running I looked at the prototype. Strangely Bachmann model has lining on the footplate sides and cylinders which the real one does not seem to have so that less work for me. I needed to repaint it into maroon and line and number the sides. I had done repaints before but no attempts at lining a loco(I preferred wartime liveries and BR Black in the past). I had some LT Transfers from my 3D printing work with Radley Models for a metropolitan BTH loco(http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/70288-metropolitan-british-thompson-loco-a-3d-print-project/http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/70288-metropolitan-british-thompson-loco-a-3d-print-project/) and so I had everything I needed to have a crack at decorating the prairie. This is the result of my efforts. I am overall very pleased with the loco for a first attempt at a lined loco and it will run as a novelty on my layout doing steam on the met events. OliverSR
  16. Sorry didn't set it to be publicly viewable but have changed this now. The most recent link I posted should now work. Sorry for the confusion. OliverSR
  17. Progress time The model has had more work done with correcting errors in the file and adding molded on handrails to save the hassle of fitting handrails also you could always cut them off if you wanted to add your own. A pre made chassis as been sourced which will be suitably modified to incorporate nem couplings and bearings. Here is a photo showing current model and is view able revolving on shapeways. https://www.shapeways.com/model/1332299/met-14ton-ballast-brake-handrail.html?li=my-models&materialId=6 OliverSR
  18. If this is any help to you. I have been looking into this new 3D printing company who are local(to me) and seem good for model railways. I have had to download a plugin to export the sketchup files into the format they wanted and I was recommended a free bit of software to correct errors in models by them too. Also they say they will reduce costs if you print more models so it could be good for printing bogies and save money. I have not printed anything with them yet but it may be of interest(I have no connection to them apart from as a potential customer). http://www.cwrailways.com/ Message me if you want anymore details. OliverSR
  19. Following on from my Met BTH loco I am now working on a next 3D printing project. On the suggestion of Phil Radley I have been working on my next model of a Met 14Ton Ballast Brake. I am working from the drawing and photo which is of B553 in the "Metropolitan Railway Rolling stock" book by James R Snowdon. Unlike my previous model these vans had a much longer lifespan so lasted well into London Transport and received that livery too. I have learnt from my experience with the BTH loco and been able to scan the drawing and put it into the computer for me to trace and work from to a greater level of accuracy. I have also figured out how to do added detail such as gaps between planks and rivets. There wasn't a suitable chassis around RTR so I thought I would try to design one omitting the axleboxes and springs which I will buy molded parts for like with buffers. This is how it is currently going, I have more or less finished the body but am debating whether to add molded on handrails and the chassis is currently drawn on and will need depth added. Link to model on shapeways Hopefully this will progress in the coming weeks as I work on it. OliverSR
  20. Done some more work on the 14xx I have received plates in the post and so have coaled up the loco and fitted the numbers though still need to sort out the smokebox door number. For the coal I painted the inside pf the bunker with PVA before putting the coal in and then covering with a 50/50 PVA water mixture and left to dry, the result is that all the coal is held perfectly in place. The plates were removed from the strut and filed neat before gluing into place. Almost finished now and it will be run in and tested at the local club tomorrow. Maybe I might want to do some more tidying up and detailing but I will see how it runs first. OliverSR
  21. Thanks for the positive feedback. Time for some more progress I think. The loco has had further tidying up and I have found the gold paint so picked out the whistle which is molded on(even though this isn't great I am not overly fussed and it would be more trouble than its worth to replace in my opinion). Then it was time for the loco to get her crests. I used pressfix BR small early crests and the application was really simple and easy to do a good job. Cut around the transfer whilst not cutting all the way through, peel away and place where you want the crest. Then press it in place and soak for 30 seconds before removing the carrying paper thing and dabbing dry. I am rather pleased with the result. Not much left to do now, some coal is needed in the bunker and then have some fun with it at the local club test track. Its number plates need to be bought and added too. Once I have properly finished it I will take some better photos as this is only from my phone and so I promise you some better(less flattering?) photos once its fully finished. OliverSR
  22. 110samec I though it was just a brass thing too. When I was striping the paint off the loco I noticed it was brass rather than the expected white metal and with a light tug it came off. I was then able to get to the parts of the cab behind it and I could shine up the Safety Valve bonnet with some brasso to make it lovely and shiny. I decided that I wanted it to be shiny even if it is not likely in BR times. I am someone who likes a shiny and clean train and would never weather anything so I am doing it it pristine condition as thats my personal preference. OliverSR
  23. Here is my K's 14xx I am in the process of restoring. Click Here to see my workbench for full details of the project. OliverSR
  24. Here is the start of my Workbench On this forum so if anyone wants to they can see what I am working on. I thought I would have a go at a quick project initially. This is the loco in question a K's 14XX which I recently picked up and wanted to restore. http://i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m595/SouthernValleyRail/5527E1F3-E332-454B-91B5-13197FA0DD45-1404-0000027F67136919_zps9609795e.jpg As you can see the loco is quite battered and parts have broken off. Even though the livery is decent its not suitable for my BR layout and I thought I could repaint it as number 1401(The first one in the Titfield Thunderbolt) though I would like mine to be pristine and in BR livery rather than dirty black. It runs well however so I will just smarten it up basically. http://i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m595/SouthernValleyRail/4D0187E6-599F-4703-B3A8-C926C77BECF3-1404-0000027F795B29B4_zps4d17152f.jpg The first job to do is to strip off the old paintwork which I did with B&Q paint stripper which I generously painted over and then scrubbed off the paint a few times. This is how the loco looked once I had stripped the paint off the body and I was pleased to discover that it had a rather nice Brass part which I cleaned up and intend to leave all shiny. http://i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m595/SouthernValleyRail/E8562270-EAA8-4FE8-A6E0-0E66CB548F97-1404-0000027F8D31C5BB_zpsfb38200a.jpg I then sprayed the loco with Halfords Satin black which gave me a good finish and still looked crisp and sharp detailing. http://i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m595/SouthernValleyRail/A4063F79-C004-4CBB-9F9C-33F44D611620-1404-0000027F9AC2727F_zps29bc1e03.jpg Then I painted the smokebox, underframe and cab roof in Humbrol Dirty Black as I have seem others use this technique to great effect. I also started to paint the bufferbeam and gave the wheels and chassis a quick touch up. http://i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m595/SouthernValleyRail/35560198-FF83-46BE-9F3F-7540FB4BA55A-1404-0000027FA1EBBA32_zps48107c36.jpg This is how it looks tonight and I need to still do some tidying up and finishing off but I am overall pleased with my efforts.
